Well, I suppose I'll represent the more modern RP,

Ok, well, RP goes by many different names

좋아요. RP는 많은 다른 이름들로 부르는데

Standard English, Oxford English,

일반적인 영어, 옥스포드식 영어

The Queen's English, BBC English..

여왕 영어, BBC 영어..

Well, it is true, in the past,

BBC news reporters were expected to speak in a similar style to the Queen.

They would speak very upper-class.

Whereas today's BBC represents a more realistic range of British accents.

Today, modern RP isn't exactly a very specific way of speaking,

They're all on the spectrum of RP,

but the way they speak isn't exactly identical to one another.

The main idea of RP today is using good enunciation,

a wide range of vocabulary,

and just generally use the correct grammar.

Indeed! Let's begin with the sounds :

네! 이제 다음과 같은 소리로 시작해 보겠습니다.

we'll show you the differences between more modern RP and the older-fashioned upper RP.

현대의 RP와 구식 상류 RP사이의 차이점을 보여 드리죠.

Modern RP is more just about proper enunciation,

현대의 RP는 단지 적절한 발음,

good full articulation of consonants,

자음의 완전한 발음이 좋고,

good pronounciation of consonants,

자음의 발음이 좋아야해요.

especially Ts, for example :

특히 Ts에서 말이죠. 예를 들면 :

Try not to use glottal Ts wherever possible.

가능하면 어디서든 성문 Ts를 쓰지 마세요.

For example, "water", not

예를 들어, "water"

"wa'er" (water with the glottal T)

"wa'er"가 아닙니다. (water은 성문 T가 포함)

"Better", not "be'er" (better with the glottal T)

"Better", "be'er"가 아니죠. (better는 성문 T가 포함)

However, where there's a T sound at the end of a word,

하지만, 단어의 끝에서 T 발음이 난다면

sometimes, we don't say it.

가끔씩, 우리는 발음하지 않죠.

For example :

예를 들어:

Absolutely

"Absolutely"

Definitely

"Definitely"

United States

"United States"

In regular RP, we use something called R linking or R joining.

보통 RP에서는 "R 연결"이라고 부르는 것을 사용하죠.

In a sentence, such as this :

문장에서, 이것과 같이 말이죠:

"India and China"

"India and China"

India ends with an "A" sound,

India는 A소리로 끝나는데,

the next word begins with an "A" sound,

다음 단어의 시작도 A로 시작되죠.

so, in regular RP, we join them with an "R".

그래서, 보통 RP에서는 그들을 R로 묶습니다.

For example :

예를 들어:

"India (r) and China"

"India (r) and China"

Whereas in upper RP,

we wouldn't do that.

One important thing to note is that RP is non-rhotic, which means

we don't pronounce the "R" sound

For example, in this word

Americans might pronounce it "hard"

with a "R" sound.

"R"소리와 함께요.

But in RP we don't.

하지만 우리는 아니죠.

We pronounce it /hɑ:d/

우리는 발음을 "hɑ:d"로 합니다.

One important thing to remember is in these words,

한가지 잊지 말아야할 중요한 사실은,

the "A" is pronounced like a /ɑ:/

"A"는 발음이 "ɑ:"로 날 수도 있습니다.

Class, Task, Ask, Grass...

whereas in these words,

the "A" sound is pronounced like an /æ/

"A"는 발음이 "æ"로 납니다.

The sounds in more common English accents come from further back in the mouth,

좀 더 일반적인 영국 억양의 소리는 훨씬 더 깊숙한 입에서 나오게 됩니다.

Whereas in RP and upper RP, the sounds come from further forward in the mouth

반면, RP와 상부 RP에서는, 소리가 입에서 더 앞쪽으로 옵니다.

The rule is this :

the higher level of RP, the posher the accent,

RP의 등급이 높을수록, 액센트 구분이 커집니다.

the further forward in the mouth is where the sound would come from.

소리가 나오는 곳이 더 먼 곳이라고 했어요.

In upper RP,

상류 RP에서는,

the jaw move as little as possible,

턱이 최대한 움직이지 않는 경우,

키이라 나이틀리를 생각하세요!

She speaks with a very good posh accent,

그녀는 아주 고상한 말씨를 쓰지만,

but she looks like a ventriloquist dummy when she speaks because her mouth barely moves.

그녀는 입이 거의 움직이지 않기 때문에 말을 할 때 복화술을 쓰는 인형처럼 보이죠.

and that all lands to make a sound posher.

그리고 모든 것들이 고상한 발음을 나도록 하죠.
