What's the difference between On, In, Onto and Into?

but, first, we need to focus on the prepositions "On" and "In".

しかし 初めに 前置詞 " On " と " In " に 着目する必要があります

Where is Aly?

アリーは どこにいるの？

He is inside or in the pool.

プールの 中にいるよ

Where's Tom?

トムは どこ？

Outside or out of the pool.

プールの 外だよ

Where's the fish?

魚は どこにある？

On a plate.

お皿の上

Where is my phone?

私の携帯は どこ？

In my pocket.

私の ポケットの中

なので In, Out, off, On, は 目的語の位置を示しています

So : In, Out, Off, On, they show the location of objects :

My phone is in my pocket,

「私の携帯は 私の ポケットの中に あります」

Aly is in the pool.

「アリーは プールの中に います」

But, if we talk about movement,

だけど 動きについて話すなら

from Off to On,

Off から On

or from Out to In,

あるいは Out から In

then, we must add "to".

その時は " to " を 入れる必要があります

For example :

例えば

I put a fish onto the plate.

私は お皿の上 " に " 魚 " を置いた "

I put the tweezers into my pocket.

私は ポケット " の中に " ピンセット " を入れた "

Do we have to add "to"?

必ず " to " を 付けますか？

Couldn't I just say "I put the fish on a plate",

"I put the fish on a plate" や

"I put the phone in my pocket"?

"I put the phone in my pocket" ではダメですか？

Yes, you could say that!

はい 言う事ができます！

But that's why we use "to",

" to " を使う理由は

to show movement.

動きを 表現するためです

But, be careful, we say "onto something" but we don't say "offto something",

だけど 気をつけて " onto something " は 言うけど " offto something " とは 言わないんだ

it's just off.

off だけ

The same with "into", that's ok,

"Into" も同様に大丈夫

"outto", no!

"outto" は 間違い！

So, Aly and Tom are peeing.

アリーとトムは オシッコを しています

But, where are they peeing?

だが 二人は 何処でしていますか？

One of them is peeing in the pool, one of them is peeing into the pool.

1人が プールの " 中で " もう1人は プールの " 中に " している

Did you guess correct?

当たっていた？

Aly is peeing in the pool because that's his location, he is in the pool.

アリーは プールの " 中で " している なぜなら 彼はプールの " 中にいる " から

Tom is peeing into the pool beacuse his pee is going from out to in the pool.

トムは プールの " 中に " している それは 彼が プールの " 外から " しているから

I know this was a gross example but someone asks you what the difference is...

汚い 例文なのは分かっています でも 誰かに違いを聞かれた時に・・・
