Using English Prepositions - Lesson 7: To, Till, Until, Through - Part 2 (time)

We've been talking about the prepositions TO, TILL, and UNTIL.

as I talk with my daughter about her bedtime.

What does UNTIL mean?

So my daughter has stayed up to midnight at lest once.

We could also say...

You'll also hear "not until." The negative.

당신은 또한 "not until"을 듣게 될 것입니다. 네거티브.

For example, she goes to sleep around 9, but...

Now you'll hear us talk about studying a foreign language at school.

Okay. First, an easy question.

And I think your choices will probably be French, Spanish, or German.

So you'll...you will study a foreign language from seventh grade all the way through twelfth.

Five. - Five years of foreign language study.

I wish it were twelve, but you get five.

Why twelve?

Well, more time, you get more knowledge, and you're more fluent.

But five is okay.

It's better than nothing.

없는 것보다는 낫습니다.

As you heard, they teach foreign languages in our school district,

but not until the seventh grade.

We could also say it's not until after the sixth grade

that children begin...to start studying foreign languages.

I wish it were earlier.

You also heard me say from the seventh grade through twelfth.

Not from...to, not from...until.

from...to가 아니라 from...until.

But from...through.

Sometimes we use the preposition THROUGH

때때로 우리는 명확하게 하기 위해 전치사 THROUGH를 사용하여

to clarify...to specify what that ending point really is.

그 끝점이 실제로 무엇인지 지정합니다.

So children begin studying foreign languages here in seventh grade

and they continue all the way till the end of twelfth grade.

From seventh through twelfth.

It's another way to mark that range.

THROUGH by itself means...

THROUGH 그 자체로...

The crying continued during the night.

The sleeping continued during the meeting.

회의 중에 잠이 계속되었습니다.

We use ALL and RIGHT just for emphasis.

우리는 강조를 위해 ALL과 RIGHT를 사용합니다.

Let's review all the prepositions of time

that we've talked about by doing an exercise.

연습을 통해 우리가 이야기한 모든 시간 전치사를 복습해 봅시다.

The vacation ended on the 21st,

21일에 휴가가 끝나서

so he was home by the 22nd.

22일에 집에 도착했다.

"Through the weekend" means the whole weekend,

"주말까지"는 주말이 끝날 때까지 전체를 의미합니다

until it was over.

"Not until noon" or "not till noon"

"정오까지" 또는 "정오까지"는

means not before that time.

그 시간 이전이 아님을 의미합니다.

So they were together after 12:00 p.m.

If there are two days to the wedding,

결혼식이 이틀

there are two days left.

남았다면 이틀 남았다.

So they'll be married after 48 hours.
