In today’s video, you’ll get the chance to  practise answering questions about what you like

to do in your free time. Before we start, let’s  learn some key phrases that will come in handy.

Instead of overusing “I like...”, here are  some alternative phrases to impress friends,  

En lugar de abusar de "Me gusta...", ¡aquí hay algunas frases alternativas para impresionar a amigos,

teachers and examiners! You could say:

profesores y examinadores! Podrías decir:

I’m interested in (+ noun / gerund) For  example, “I’m interested in football.  

Me interesa (+ sustantivo / gerundio) Por ejemplo, “Me interesa el fútbol.

My favourite team is Sheffield United!” Or you  could be more specific and say: “I’m interested  

¡Mi equipo favorito es el Sheffield United!”. O podría ser más específico y decir: “Estoy interesado

in watching football. I don’t like to play myself.  In fact, I’ve never even kicked a football!”

en ver fútbol. No me gusta jugar conmigo mismo. De hecho, ¡ni siquiera he pateado una pelota de fútbol!”.

Another option is: I’m keen on (+ noun / gerund). For  

Otra opción es: me gusta (+sustantivo/gerundio). Por

example, “I’m keen on swimming. I try to get  to the swimming pool at least twice a week”.  

ejemplo, “Me gusta nadar. Trato de ir a la piscina al menos dos veces por semana”.

Or, “I’m keen on sport. I  especially love swimming.”

O, “Estoy interesado en el deporte. En especial, me encanta nadar”.

An option which is a little  more informal would be: 

Una opción un poco más informal sería:

I’m into (+ noun / gerund). For example, “I’m  really into books at the moment. I especially love  

I'm into (+sustantivo/gerundio). Por ejemplo, “Me gustan mucho los libros en este momento. En especial, me encanta

reading thrillers.” Or “These days I’m really into  reading. I can’t get enough of a good thriller.

Last, but not least, you  could keep it simple with. 

Por último, pero no menos importante, puede mantenerlo simple con.

I enjoy (+ noun / gerund). You could say  for example, “I enjoy going to the cinema.  

Disfruto (+sustantivo/gerundio). Podrías decir, por ejemplo, “Me gusta ir al cine.

I try to go every Tuesday as it’s  half price on those days!” Or, “I have  

¡Intento ir todos los martes porque esos días está a mitad de precio!” O, “Siempre he

always enjoyed a trip to the cinema.  I particularly love a good rom-com".

disfrutado de un viaje al cine. En particular, me encantan las buenas comedias románticas".

It’s also useful to explain  why you enjoy your hobbies. 

También es útil explicar por qué disfrutas de tus pasatiempos.

For example, when talking about sport you might  say. “I enjoy cycling because it keeps me fit.” 

Por ejemplo, al hablar sobre el deporte, podrías decir: "Disfruto del ciclismo porque me mantiene en forma".

For artistic activities you could  say, “I love going to pottery class  

Para las actividades artísticas, podrías decir: “Me encanta ir a la clase de cerámica

as I enjoy tapping into my creative side.” And when talking about meeting up with friends,  

porque disfruto aprovechar mi lado creativo”. Y cuando hables de reunirte con amigos,

you could say, “I’m a bit of a social butterfly,  so I tend to spend my free time with friends.”
