In today’s video, you’ll get the chance to  practise answering questions about what you like

to do in your free time. Before we start, let’s  learn some key phrases that will come in handy.

Instead of overusing “I like...”, here are  some alternative phrases to impress friends,  

Invece di abusare di "mi piace...", ecco alcune frasi alternative per impressionare amici,

teachers and examiners! You could say:

insegnanti ed esaminatori! Potresti dire:

I’m interested in (+ noun / gerund) For  example, “I’m interested in football.  

mi interessa (+ sostantivo / gerundio) Ad esempio: “Mi interessa il calcio.

My favourite team is Sheffield United!” Or you  could be more specific and say: “I’m interested  

La mia squadra preferita è lo Sheffield United!” Oppure potresti essere più specifico e dire: “Mi interessa

in watching football. I don’t like to play myself.  In fact, I’ve never even kicked a football!”

guardare il calcio. Non mi piace interpretare me stesso. In effetti, non ho mai nemmeno preso a calci un pallone!

Another option is: I’m keen on (+ noun / gerund). For  

Un'altra opzione è: sono appassionato di (+ sostantivo / gerundio). Ad

example, “I’m keen on swimming. I try to get  to the swimming pool at least twice a week”.  

esempio, “Sono appassionato di nuoto. Cerco di andare in piscina almeno due volte a settimana”.

Or, “I’m keen on sport. I  especially love swimming.”

Oppure: “Sono appassionato di sport. Amo particolarmente il nuoto”.

An option which is a little  more informal would be: 

Un'opzione un po' più informale sarebbe:

I’m into (+ noun / gerund). For example, “I’m  really into books at the moment. I especially love  

mi piace (+ sostantivo / gerundio). Ad esempio, “Mi piacciono molto i libri in questo momento. Amo particolarmente

reading thrillers.” Or “These days I’m really into  reading. I can’t get enough of a good thriller.

leggere i thriller”. Oppure “In questi giorni mi piace molto leggere. Non ne ho mai abbastanza di un buon thriller.

Last, but not least, you  could keep it simple with. 

Ultimo, ma non meno importante, potresti mantenerlo semplice con.

I enjoy (+ noun / gerund). You could say  for example, “I enjoy going to the cinema.  

Mi piace (+ sostantivo / gerundio). Ad esempio, potresti dire: "Mi piace andare al cinema.

I try to go every Tuesday as it’s  half price on those days!” Or, “I have  

Cerco di andare ogni martedì perché in quei giorni è a metà prezzo!” Oppure: “Mi è

always enjoyed a trip to the cinema.  I particularly love a good rom-com".

sempre piaciuto un viaggio al cinema. Amo particolarmente una buona commedia romantica".

It’s also useful to explain  why you enjoy your hobbies. 

È anche utile spiegare perché ti piacciono i tuoi hobby.

For example, when talking about sport you might  say. “I enjoy cycling because it keeps me fit.” 

Ad esempio, quando parli di sport potresti dire: "Mi piace andare in bicicletta perché mi tiene in forma".

For artistic activities you could  say, “I love going to pottery class  

Per le attività artistiche potresti dire: "Adoro andare a lezione di ceramica

as I enjoy tapping into my creative side.” And when talking about meeting up with friends,  

perché mi piace sfruttare il mio lato creativo". E quando parli di incontrarsi con gli amici,

you could say, “I’m a bit of a social butterfly,  so I tend to spend my free time with friends.”

potresti dire: "Sono un po' una farfalla sociale, quindi tendo a passare il mio tempo libero con gli amici".

I love having time to myself but I have been  getting a little bored over the holidays.
