NEVER Say This in English. Offensive English Phrases You Should AVOID in the Conversation

Hey guys, today I wanna tell you about the  phrases you should NEVER say to your friends,  

皆さん、今日は 、友人、

collegues, classmates and any  native speakers at work or  

同僚、クラスメート、 職場や大学のネイティブ スピーカーに絶対に言ってはいけないフレーズについてお話ししたいと思います

at the university. And I’ll give better phrases  you can use instead. Let’s get started.

。 代わりに使用できるより良いフレーズを紹介し ます。 始めましょう。

That’s a bad idea. By telling this you  make the other person feel uncomfortable,  

それは悪い考えです。 これを言う と、相手を不快に

and you risk to offend them. Instead of saying: That’s a bad idea,  

させ、気分を害する危険があります。 「それは悪い考えだ」と言う代わりに、「

it’s better to say: I’m not  so sure that’s a good idea.

それが良い考えかどうか確信が持てない」と言ったほうがよいでしょう 。

I hate this colour. Instead of saying I  

この色嫌い。 この色が嫌い と言う代わりに

hate this colour, you can say I  am not too fond of this colour. 

、この色があまり好きではないと言えます。

The verb ‘hate’ sounds really rude and very informal.

「憎む」という動詞は 、非常に失礼で、非常に非公式に聞こえます。

The next one. Come here.  Instead of saying Come here,  

次のもの。 ここに来て。 「ここに来てください」と言う代わりに、「ここに

you should say: Could you come here? Even though  you may feel very close with your groupmates or

collegues, it’s better to choose polite  appropriate phrases. Could you come here?

Your work is awfu Instead of saying Your work is awful,  

あなたの仕事は ひどいです あなたの仕事はひどいと言う代わりに、

you should say - Your work is not really up  to standard. Even if you don’t like the work,

of course you don’t wanna hurt anyone, and you  should be careful when you express your opinion.

The next phrase you should NEVER  use. This report isn’t good. 

次の絶対に使ってはいけないフレーズ 。 このレポートはよくありません。

You should say - I’m not quite  satisfied with this report. 

あなたは言うべきです - 私は このレポートに満足していません.

The second phrase is more polite and professional.

2 番目のフレーズは、より丁寧でプロフェッショナルです。

Tell me when the meeting starts. Instead of  this phrase, you should say - Let me know when

the meeting starts. The phrase ‘tell me’ is an  imperative and it’s kind of instruction, but in

the office or at the university we should avoid  this phrase because it might sound offensive.

It’s one of the basic English  words, but when we say

No, we sound kind of negative and even aggressive. 

、否定的で攻撃的にさえ聞こえます。

Instead of saying No, you should definitely  say – I’m alright, thanks or I’m good, thanks.

いいえと言う代わりに、 「大丈夫です、ありがとう」または「大丈夫です、ありがとう」と必ず言うべきです。

The next one. Can I borrow your pen? It’s better to say - Could I borrow your pen? 

次のもの。 ペンを貸して頂けますか？ 言ったほうがいいです - あなたのペンを借りてもいいですか?

‘Could I?” is a very polite way  to ask something, and it’s formal. 

'私は出来ましたか？" 何かを尋ねるとても丁寧な言い方 で、フォーマルです。

When I ask a member of my family,  I can say “Can I borrow your pen”  

家族の一員に尋ねるときは、 「ペンを借りてもいいですか」と言うことができます。

and when we request something  at work, we use formal phrases.

また、仕事で何かを要求するときは 、フォーマルなフレーズを使用します。 オフィスや大学で

Another phrase you shouldn’t use  at the office and university is 

使用してはいけないもう 1 つのフレーズ は、

Leave me alone. Instead of saying Leave me alone,  

「Leave me alone」です。 Leave me alone と言う代わりに

use a politer alternative.  Sorry, I’m a bit busy right now.

、 より丁寧な言い方をしてください。 申し訳ありませんが、私は今少し忙しいです。

The next phrase is It’s hot, open the window. 

次のフレーズは、暑いです、窓を開けてください。

It’s better to say - Do you  mind if I open the window?

「 窓を開けてもよろしいですか？」と言うほうがよいでしょう。

Again, it’s a polite way of  asking someone to do something 

繰り返しますが、これは誰かに何かをお願いする際の丁寧な言い方

“Do you mind?”

です。
