NEVER Say This in English. Offensive English Phrases You Should AVOID in the Conversation

Hey guys, today I wanna tell you about the  phrases you should NEVER say to your friends,  

안녕하세요 여러분, 오늘은 직장이나 대학에서 친구,

collegues, classmates and any  native speakers at work or  

동료, 급우 및 모든 원어민에게 절대 말해서는 안 되는 문구에 대해 말씀드리려고 합니다

at the university. And I’ll give better phrases  you can use instead. Let’s get started.

. 대신 사용할 수 있는 더 나은 문구를 알려드리겠습니다 . 시작하자.

That’s a bad idea. By telling this you  make the other person feel uncomfortable,  

그것은 나쁜 생각입니다. 이 말을 하면 상대방이 불편해하고

and you risk to offend them. Instead of saying: That’s a bad idea,  

그들의 기분을 상하게 할 위험이 있습니다. ' 나쁜 생각이야'라고 말하는 대신 '

it’s better to say: I’m not  so sure that’s a good idea.

좋은 생각인지 잘 모르겠어'라고 말하는 것이 좋습니다.

I hate this colour. Instead of saying I  

나는 이 색이 싫어. 이 색상이 싫다고 말하는 대신 이

hate this colour, you can say I  am not too fond of this colour. 

색상이 너무 마음에 들지 않는다고 말할 수 있습니다.

The verb ‘hate’ sounds really rude and very informal.

'hate'라는 동사는 정말 무례하고 비공식적으로 들립니다.

The next one. Come here.  Instead of saying Come here,  

다음 것. 이리 오세요. 이리 오라고 말하는 대신 이리 오시

you should say: Could you come here? Even though  you may feel very close with your groupmates or  

겠어요?라고 말해야 합니다. 그룹 동료나 동료와 매우 친근하게 느껴지더라도 정중하고

collegues, it’s better to choose polite  appropriate phrases. Could you come here?

적절한 문구를 선택하는 것이 좋습니다. 여기로 올 수 있니?

Your work is awfu Instead of saying Your work is awful,  

당신의 작업은 끔찍합니다. 당신의 작업은 끔찍하다고 말하는 대신

you should say - Your work is not really up  to standard. Even if you don’t like the work,  

당신의 작업은 표준에 미치지 못한다고 말해야 합니다. 일이 마음에 들지 않더라도 물론

of course you don’t wanna hurt anyone, and you  should be careful when you express your opinion.

누구에게도 상처를 주고 싶지는 않으며, 자신의 의견을 표현할 때 조심해야 합니다. 절대 사용

The next phrase you should NEVER  use. This report isn’t good. 

해서는 안 되는 다음 구문입니다 . 이 보고서는 좋지 않습니다.

You should say - I’m not quite  satisfied with this report. 

이 보고서에 만족하지 않습니다.

The second phrase is more polite and professional.

두 번째 문구는 더 정중하고 전문적입니다.

Tell me when the meeting starts. Instead of  this phrase, you should say - Let me know when  

회의가 시작되면 알려주세요. 이 문구 대신 다음과 같이 말해야 합니다. 회의가 시작되면 알려주세요

the meeting starts. The phrase ‘tell me’ is an  imperative and it’s kind of instruction, but in  

. '말해줘'라는 표현은 필수적이고 일종의 지시이지만

the office or at the university we should avoid  this phrase because it might sound offensive.

사무실이나 대학에서는 불쾌하게 들릴 수 있으므로 이 표현을 피해야 합니다.

It’s one of the basic English  words, but when we say  

기본 영어 단어 중 하나지만, No라고 말할 때

No, we sound kind of negative and even aggressive. 

부정적이고 공격적으로 들립니다.

Instead of saying No, you should definitely  say – I’m alright, thanks or I’m good, thanks.

아니오라고 말하는 대신 확실히 괜찮아요, 고마워요, 괜찮아요, 고마워요라고 말해야 합니다.

The next one. Can I borrow your pen? It’s better to say - Could I borrow your pen? 

다음 것. 당신의 펜을 빌릴 수 있습니까? "당신의 펜을 빌릴 수 있을까요?"라고 말하는 것이 더 낫습니다.

‘Could I?” is a very polite way  to ask something, and it’s formal. 

'내가 할 수?" 무엇인가를 묻는 매우 정중한 방법이며 격식을 차립니다.

When I ask a member of my family,  I can say “Can I borrow your pen”  

가족에게 물어볼 때 “펜 좀 빌려줄래?”라고 말할 수

and when we request something  at work, we use formal phrases.

있고 직장에서 무언가를 요청할 때는 격식을 차린 표현을 사용합니다. 사무실과 대학에서

Another phrase you shouldn’t use  at the office and university is 

사용하면 안 되는 또 다른 표현은

Leave me alone. Instead of saying Leave me alone,  

Leave me alone입니다. 내버려 두는 대신 정중한

use a politer alternative.  Sorry, I’m a bit busy right now.

대안을 사용하세요. 죄송합니다. 지금은 좀 바쁩니다.

The next phrase is It’s hot, open the window. 

다음 문구는 뜨거워 창문 열어.

It’s better to say - Do you  mind if I open the window?

' 창문을 열어도 될까요?'라고 말하는 것이 좋습니다.

Again, it’s a polite way of  asking someone to do something 

다시 말하지만, 이것은 누군가에게 무언가를 해달라고 정중하게 부탁하는 방법입니다.

“Do you mind?”
