HOW to SPEAK English - Lesson 12 / Learn English with Misterduncan

Hi, everybody. This is Mr. Duncan in England.

How are you today? Are you okay? I hope so.

Are you happy? I hope so.

In this lesson we are going to look at one of the hardest parts of learning any language.

Speaking

There are many ways of becoming more comfortable and confident when learning to speak out loud.

We will look at some simple sentences to help you practise and build your confidence.

But first, here is a useful rhyme for you to learn and recite...

Every day, In every way my English will improve is what I will say.

My shyness will shrink and my courage will grow.

The more I remember, the more I will know.

My doubts will all vanish and my smile will shine.

As I practise my English, I know I’ll be fine.

Here are some simple sentences for you to say.

Remember, don't be shy.

‘I want to go outside’

‘I want to go home’

‘I want to eat some food’

‘I want to buy some shoes’

‘I want to make a cake’

‘I want to watch a movie’

‘I want to play a game’

‘I want to drink some water’

When it comes to speaking out loud,

there are many ways of improving your confidence.

You can watch yourself in a mirror.

Look at your reflection as you speak.

Look at the way your mouth moves as you pronounce the words.

It will feel strange at first,

but over time you will become more comfortable

with how you look whilst speaking the new language and more importantly,

your confidence will grow.

Listening to your own voice is another good way to improve your attitude to speaking out loud.

Record your own voice on a portable device, such as a mobile phone or an MP3 recorder.

Listen to the sound of your voice as you speak English.

This method will help you understand where you might be going wrong with your pronunciation.

If you don't like the sound of your voice or the way you speak,

then why not change it?

Learn to relax and enjoy the experience of practising to speak.

One of the most common complaints made by students

relates to the action of repeating things.

Although this method can seem dull and for some boring,

it is important to remember that repetition is a very important part of learning anything.

To repeat things whilst speaking will help you in two ways.

It will allow you to remember words and grammar rules,

whilst at the same time increase your confidence.

That is the reason why repeating things is so important.

It is one of the basic parts of learning any skill or subject, and English is no exception.

As I always say, the more you do it, the more you will enjoy doing it.

The more you enjoy it, the more you will want to do it,

and the more you want to do it, the more you will learn and improve.

And most importantly of all, your confidence will grow.

With daily practise and a handful of determination

I know you can do it.

All the activities I mentioned can be done alone.

But don't forget, you can also practise speaking with others who are also learning English,

such as a friend or a group of classmates.

Most students say that the hardest part of learning a new language is speaking it.

So if you have this problem, then relax.

It is normal to feel a little nervous at first.

Doing anything requires some confidence and an understanding of where you are making mistakes whilst learning.

Whatever it is, the problems are the same.

Talking of which, Never worry about making mistakes.

That is also a part of learning something new.
