Learn the English Phrases "to give in" and "to give out"

In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase to give in.

בשיעור האנגלית הזה, רציתי לעזור לך ללמוד את הביטוי באנגלית להיכנע

Now, this is kind of the opposite of the phrase to put your foot down.

Sometimes you need to give in when someone asks you if they can do something.

לפעמים אתה צריך להיכנע כשמישהו שואל אותך אם הוא יכול לעשות משהו.

Sometimes when my kids ask for something, I put my foot down and I say no.

לפעמים כשהילדים שלי מבקשים משהו, אני מניח את רגלי ואומר לא.

But sometimes I give in and I say yes.

אבל לפעמים אני נכנע ואומר שכן.

This happened a few years ago when they wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch.

I put my foot down and said, No, it's too expensive.

But they said they would pay for part of it if I paid for part of it.

So eventually I was able to give in.

Eventually, I decided that it was okay and we went and bought a Nintendo Switch.

The second phrase I

wanted to teach you today is the phrase to give out.

This is a phrase we use to talk about something that's going to break or something

זהו ביטוי שאנו משתמשים בו כדי לדבר על משהו שעומד להישבר או משהו

that's going to break down.

שעומד להישבר.

If I drive my van for another ten years, eventually it's going to give out.

Eventually the engine is going to give out.

Eventually the wheels are going to give out.

It's going to stop working.

So to review, to give in means to finally say that someone's allowed to do something.

Sometimes my classes ask me if they can, I don't know, walk the town for a field trip

and eventually I give in and plan something like that instead of saying no.

Now, both of these phrases have other meanings.

Not just in Canada, I think in a lot of parts of the world,

So in our school, the newer parts of the school
