Uh she's she was an AMA, uh, AMA just means a middle-aged woman in, in Korean.

So when I was in South Korea, I had this one class and the class was full of AMAs

middle-aged women, uh, somewhere in their forties, somewhere in their fifties.

But this class was very special to me.

So we had a wonderful time together.

I would teach them English and we'd talk about life.

And we really enjoyed each other's company.

Now the oldest eldest woman in that class was about maybe 57

and she was a very hard worker.

I loved her.

I really enjoyed having her in class.

She always was first in class.

She would prepare, she was always excited to learn something.

the only thing was she was really having a hard time improving her English.

I was helping her as much as I possibly could, but her English

just wasn't matching the level of the other students in the class.

So at the end of the term, when I had to decide who was going to pass and who was

going to fail, unfortunately, this AMA was one of the students that I had to fail.

Now. I loved her.

I enjoyed her, but I knew her English was not at the right.

For her to move to the next level.

She was at the level three level at that time.

Ela estava no nível três naquela época.

And I couldn't let her go to level four because level four was

E eu não podia deixá-la ir para o nível quatro porque o nível quatro

gonna be so much more difficult.

So when she found out that she failed, this was her second time failing.

She came to class and she said, TIFF, I'm just gonna give up.

And she started crying.

So I gave her a hug.

I said, no, don't give.

I said, this is not a sign of your intelligence.

It's just, this is a sign that you need to learn a little bit more.

And we talked for about 30 minutes and she was crying and I encouraged her.

And I said, listen, when something like this happens, you have to learn from it,

see how you can grow, figure out what else you need to learn so that you can improve.

And I explained that if you go to the next level, you'll be more

frustrated because it will be harder.

And by the end of the conversation, she had stopped.

And she looked at me and said, TIFF, I'll try one more time.

And this is a Testament to her.

E este é um testamento para ela.

She tried one more time and she improved.

Ela tentou mais uma vez e melhorou.

But you see, she didn't let her failure stop her from moving forward.

Mas você vê, ela não deixou seu fracasso impedi-la de seguir em frente.

She didn't let her lack of English at that time.

Ela não deixou sua falta de inglês naquela época.

Stop her from continuing on her English journey.

Impeça-a de continuar sua jornada inglesa.

She didn't look at the other individuals.

Ela não olhou para os outros indivíduos.

She decided to continue moving forward to take the class again, to learn

Ela decidiu seguir em frente para fazer a aula novamente, para aprender

more things so that she could improve.

mais coisas para poder melhorar.

And I was so proud of her because I don't like to see anyone cry or feel.

E fiquei tão orgulhosa dela porque não gosto de ver ninguém chorar ou sentir.

But I knew what her goal was.

Mas eu sabia qual era o objetivo dela.

I knew that she wanted to speak English fluently, and I knew that

Eu sabia que ela queria falar inglês fluentemente e sabia que

I could help her get there, but we had to practice some more.

poderia ajudá-la a chegar lá, mas tínhamos que praticar um pouco mais.

So just like we learned today, she had to accept her mistakes.

She had to accept the things that she wasn't good at at that time, but she

had to learn from them and move forward.

And that's exactly what she did still to this day.

I remember her and she still remains one of my favorite

Maybe you've experienced the same thing.

You've tried over and over and over again.

I want to encourage you to keep moving forward.
