Describing Price or Cost as Affordable, Inexpensive, Expensive, Cheap | Learn English Vocabulary

And in this video, we're going to talk about  how to describe the cost or price of something.

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right. 

insanlar için bu önemli, değil mi?

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses. 

Örneğin, özellikle elbiseler için alışveriş yapmayı seviyorum.

So I might say the cost of  this dress is affordable. 

Yani bu elbisenin maliyetinin uygun olduğunu söyleyebilirim.

Okay. This dress is affordable. 

Tamam aşkım. Bu elbise uygun fiyatlı.

‘affordable’ means that this  dress is not too expensive. 

"uygun fiyatlı", bu elbisenin çok pahalı olmadığı anlamına gelir.

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress. I have enough money. 

Yeterince param var ve bu elbisenin parasını ödeyebilirim. yeterince param var

I can buy this dress. So I would say this dress is affordable. 

Bu elbiseyi satın alabilirim. Bu yüzden bu elbisenin uygun fiyatlı olduğunu söyleyebilirim.

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say  

Bu elbisenin ucuz olduğunu da söyleyebilirim. Hepimiz pahalının ne olduğunu biliyoruz, ancak

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive. 

ucuz diyoruz, yani bu pahalının tersidir.

‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’  have very similar meanings. 

"uygun fiyatlı" ve "ucuz" çok benzer anlamlara sahiptir.

Again, I have enough money to buy this. It's not too expensive. 

Yine, bunu satın alacak kadar param var. Çok pahalı değil.

Then, we have ‘cheap’. This dress is cheap. 

Sonra, 'ucuz' var. Bu elbise ucuz.

Now, ‘cheap’ is similar, it means it's not  expensive, but it's a little bit more negative. 

Şimdi, "ucuz" benzer, pahalı olmadığı anlamına gelir , ancak biraz daha olumsuzdur.

If you say that something is cheap,  people may think that the quality  

Bir şeyin ucuz olduğunu söylerseniz, insanlar kalitenin

is not very good. It's not very nice.

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite. 

Tamam aşkım. Şimdi tam tersine bakalım.

The opposite of these words is ‘expensive’. This dress is expensive.

Bu kelimelerin zıt anlamlısı "pahalı"dır. Bu elbise pahalıdır.

It costs a lot of money, and too much money. Maybe, I don't want to buy it. 

Çok paraya ve çok fazla paraya mal olur. Olabilir, almak istemiyorum.

We can also say ‘overpriced’. This dress is overpriced. 

Ayrıca 'abartılı' da diyebiliriz. Bu elbise çok pahalı.

That means the price is too high. 

Bu, fiyatın çok yüksek olduğu anlamına gelir. Bu

So, again, I don't want to buy this  dress, it's too expensive and overpriced. 

nedenle, tekrar söylüyorum, bu elbiseyi almak istemiyorum , çok pahalı ve çok pahalı.

Okay, so in this video, we learned that when we want to describe the cost of something,

Tamam, bu videoda, bir şeyin maliyetini

as not too expensive,

çok pahalı değil diye tarif etmek istediğimizde

we say ‘affordable’.

'uygun' dediğimizi öğrendik.

Okay. Something is affordable if it's not too expensive. 

Tamam aşkım. Bir şey çok pahalı değilse uygun fiyatlıdır.

If I can buy it with the money I have.

Elimdeki parayla satın alabilirsem.

On the other hand, if something is not affordable,

Öte yandan, bir şey uygun değilse,

if the cost is very high,

maliyeti çok yüksekse

we  say ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced’.

"pahalı" veya "fazla pahalı" deriz.

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable. 

Benim için H&M ve Forever 21 gibi bazı markaların uygun fiyatlı olduğunu düşünüyorum.

Some people don't think this way. They think it's cheap. 

Bazı insanlar böyle düşünmüyor. Ucuz olduğunu düşünüyorlar.

Sometimes, yes, some of the items can be cheap.

Bazen, evet, bazı öğeler ucuz olabilir.

But for me, I like those brands because they are affordable.

Ama benim için bu markaları uygun fiyatlı oldukları için seviyorum.

Another store that I like in Korea,

Kore'de beğendiğim bir diğer mağaza,

it's called Zara or Jara in Korea as they say.

They have some items that are affordable and some items that are very expensive.

Bazı ürünleri uygun fiyatlı ve bazı ürünleri çok pahalı.

Too expensive for me to buy.
