Describing Price or Cost as Affordable, Inexpensive, Expensive, Cheap | Learn English Vocabulary

And in this video, we're going to talk about  how to describe the cost or price of something. 

그리고 이번 영상에서는

어떤 것의 비용이나 가격을 설명하는 방법

에 대해 이야기해 보겠습니다 .

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right. 

자, 이것은 나처럼

쇼핑을 좋아하는 사람들에게 중요합니다.

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses. 

예를 들어,

나는 특히 드레스 쇼핑을 좋아합니다.

So I might say the cost of  this dress is affordable. 

그래서 나는 이 드레스의 가격이 저렴하다고 말할 수 있습니다.

Okay. This dress is affordable. 

좋아요.

이 드레스는 저렴해요.

‘affordable’ means that this  dress is not too expensive. 

'affordable'은

이 드레스가 너무 비싸지 않다는 뜻입니다.

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress. I have enough money. 

나는 돈이 충분해서

이 드레스 값을 지불할 수 있어요.

나는 돈이 충분하다.

I can buy this dress. So I would say this dress is affordable. 

나는 이 드레스를 살 수 있어요.

그래서 나는

이 드레스가 저렴하다고 말하고 싶습니다

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say  

. 나는 또한

이 드레스가 저렴하다고 말할 수 있다 .

우리는 모두 비싼 것이 무엇인지 알고 있지만

저렴하다고 말하므로

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive. 

이는 비싼 것의 반대입니다.

‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’  have very similar meanings. 

'저렴한'과 '저렴한'은

매우 유사한 의미를 갖습니다.

Again, I have enough money to buy this. It's not too expensive. 

다시 말하지만, 나는 이것을 살 만큼 충분한 돈을 가지고 있습니다.

너무 비싸지 않아요.

Then, we have ‘cheap’. This dress is cheap. 

그렇다면 우리는 '싸다'.

이 드레스는 싸다.

Now, ‘cheap’ is similar, it means it's not  expensive, but it's a little bit more negative. 

자, 'cheap'은 비슷합니다.

비싸지는 않지만

조금 더 부정적인 의미입니다.

If you say that something is cheap,  people may think that the quality  

어떤 것이 싸다고 하면

사람들은 품질이 별로 좋지 않다고 생각할 수도 있습니다.

is not very good. It's not very nice. 

별로 좋지 않습니다.

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite. 

좋아요.

이제 그 반대를 살펴보겠습니다.

The opposite of these words is ‘expensive’. This dress is expensive.

이 단어의 반대말은 '비싸다'입니다.

이 드레스는 비싸요.

It costs a lot of money, and too much money. Maybe, I don't want to buy it. 

돈도 많이 들고,

돈도 너무 많이 듭니다.

어쩌면 사고 싶지 않을 수도 있습니다.

We can also say ‘overpriced’. This dress is overpriced. 

'비싸다'라고 말할 수도 있습니다.

이 드레스는 가격이 너무 비싸요.

That means the price is too high. 

즉 가격이 너무 높다는 뜻이다.

So, again, I don't want to buy this  dress, it's too expensive and overpriced. 

그래서 다시 한 번 말씀드리지만, 저는 이 드레스를 사고 싶지 않습니다.

너무 비싸고 고가입니다.

Okay. Let's look at some more examples together.

이 신발은 예뻐 보이는데 너무 저렴해요.

Okay, so in this video, we learned that when we want to describe the cost of something,

자,

이번 영상에서 우리는 어떤 것의 비용이

너무 비싸지 않은 것으로 묘사하고 싶을 때

as not too expensive,

'affordable'이라고 말하는

we say ‘affordable’.

것을 배웠습니다

Okay. Something is affordable if it's not too expensive. 

. 좋아요.

너무 비싸지 않으면 적당한 것 같습니다.

If I can buy it with the money I have.

내가 가진 돈으로 살 수 있다면.

On the other hand, if something is not affordable,

반면에,

어떤 것이 적당하지 않거나

if the cost is very high,

가격이 매우 높다면

we  say ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced’.

우리는 'expensive' 또는 'overpriced'라고 말합니다.

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable. 

제 생각엔 H&M

이나 Forever 21 같은 브랜드가 가격이 저렴한 것 같아요.

Some people don't think this way. They think it's cheap. 

어떤 사람들은 이렇게 생각하지 않습니다.

그들은 그것이 싸다고 생각합니다.

Sometimes, yes, some of the items can be cheap.

때로는 그렇습니다. 일부 품목은 저렴할 수 있습니다.

But for me, I like those brands because they are affordable.

하지만 저는 그 브랜드가 가격이 저렴하기 때문에 좋아합니다.

Another store that I like in Korea,

제가 한국에서 좋아하는 또 다른 매장은

it's called Zara or Jara in Korea as they say.

한국에서는 자라(Zara), 자라(Jara)라고 합니다.

They have some items that are affordable and some items that are very expensive.

가격이 저렴한 품목도 있고

가격이 매우 비싼 품목도 있습니다.

Too expensive for me to buy.

제가 사기엔 너무 비싸요.
