좀 더 구체적으로 얘기하면, "캐나다에서 어떻게 캐나다 친구를 만들까?" 입니다.

Maybe you're going to Canada to study English

여러분들이 캐나다에 영어공부를 하러가게 된다면,

and you want to make some Canadian friends.

캐나다에서 캐나다 친구들을 사귀고 싶을거에요.

I'm making this video because a lot of my Korean students...

제가 이 영상을 만들고 있는 이유는 제 한국 학생들 때문입니다.

uhh... they have the experience of going to study in Canada

제 학생들은 캐나다에서 공부하고 온 경험이 많습니다.

...six months, one year, over one year...

6개월에서 1년 동안 공부하거나

혹은 1년 이상 공부했었죠.

They come back - I talk to them... and they tell me...

캐나다에서 공부했던 많은 학생들이 한국에 돌아와서 저와 이야기를 했었습니다.

Ahh...they made a lot of friends. They made a lot of international friends.

많은 유학생 친구들을 사귀었다고 했습니다.

For example, from China, Japan, Taiwan.

예를들면,

중국, 일본, 대만에서 온 학생들이나

Uh...maybe some European or South American friends.

유럽에서 온 친구들이나 남아프리카 학생들입니다.

But they didn't make any Canadian friends. Ok.

하지만 캐나다 친구들을 사귀지 않았다는 것입니다!

Uh...and I'm very surprised and shocked...

그 사실을 알았을 때, 정말 의아했고 충격도 받았고

a little bit disappointed

조금은 실망했기도 했습니다.

because you're going to Canada to live,

캐나다에 갔던 이유는 그 곳에서 살아보고

to experience the culture.

문화를 경험하고

Uh....you should interact with Canadians,

캐나다인들과 소통하기 위해서 입니다.

make Canadian friends, and of course...uh.. their main goal (going to Canada),

캐나다 친구들은 만드세요.

물론, 캐나다에 가는 주 목적은 영어실력 향상입니다.

is to improve their English.

Yes, you can improve your English with some international friends

타 유학생들과도 영어실력을 향상시킬 수 있지만,

But the best way is to make Canadian friends.

가장 좋은 방법은 캐나다 친구를 사귀는 것입니다.

Alright... so let's talk about that.

이제 그 부분에 대해서 이야기 해보겠습니다.

How do I make Canadian friends and improve my English?

"나는 어떻게 캐나다 친구들을 만들고, 어떻게 영어실력을 향상시킬까?"

First, I have work or volunteer.

첫번째로, 일을 하거나

봉사활동이 있습니다.

So if you get a job in Canada or even if

캐나다에서 일을 할 때나 봉사활동을 하더라도

you just volunteer in Canada,

you're put in a situation where you're interacting with Canadians.

캐나다인들과 소통할 수 있는 곳으로 가야합니다.

It's a very good situation to improve your English quickly.

영어실력을 빠르게 올릴 수 있는 좋은 환경이죠.

Uh, so I recommend this.

그래서 이 방법을 추천하고 싶습니다.

But make sure you have the right visas and it is legal.

하지만

비자문제를 확실히 해야하고

그 후에 합법적으로 가능합니다.

Not illegal, so if you work in

불법이 아닌거죠.

Canada get the proper visa.

즉, 캐나다에서 일을 하려면 확실한 비자를 취득하세요.

Second is homestay.

두 번째 방법은 홈스테이 입니다.

Now if you go to Canada to study English, staying with a homestay...

여러분이 캐나다에 영어 공부를 위해 가면,

홈스테이로 머무르기를 추천합니다.

way to immediately start interacting

with Canadian people because you're

going to the homestay family

홈스테이의 자연스러운 현상이죠.

If they're a good homestay family, they will treat you very nice.

만약 홈스테이의 가족들이 좋은 분들이라면,

여러분들한테 친절할 것이고

They will take you places.

여러 장소에 같이 데려가주시거나

Uh...and they will... you know... you become part of the family.

음..

홈스테이의 좋은 점은 가족의 일원이 되는 것입니다.

And this will really help you improve your English

틀림없이 영어실력 향상에 큰 도움이 될 것이고 캐나다 문화를 이해하기에도 좋은 경험이 될 것입니다.

and understand the culture.

Uhh... but, sometimes there are bad homestay families. ok.

하지만

가끔 어떤 가족들은

안 좋은 홈스테이 경우일 수도 있습니다.

A bad homestay family is more interested in the money .

안 좋은 경우에 그 가족들은 돈에만 관심이 있거나

And they will have a lot of rules.

집 안에서 여러가지 규칙도 있고

And they don't want to talk to you very much.

여러분이랑 이야기도 많이 안할 지도 모르죠.

And if they do talk to you maybe they're yelling at you.

설령 얘기를 하더라도,

화만 낼 수도 있습니다.

Okay, so you got to be careful with homestay.

그래서 홈스테이를 선택하기 전에 잘 알아봐야합니다.

It's a great experience if you get a good homestay family,

만약 좋은 가족들과 홈스테이한다면 정말 좋은 경험이 될 것이고

but if you get a bad homestay family, you've got to get out.

불친절한 가족들과 홈스테이를 하게되면 그냥 나오셔도 됩니다.

That brings us to roommates.

그리고 룸메이트를 만드는 방법이 있죠.

So in Canada, if you're going to live in Canada or study in Canada,

캐나다에서는

캐나다에서 가서 지내거나 공부를 할 때 캐나다인 룸메이트를 만들어야 합니다.

you should make a Canadian roommate.

You know when I visit Canada,

제가 캐내다에 갔을 때, 가끔 제 학생들을 만났었습니다.

and sometimes I visit my students -

Uhh... they have roommates that are usually other

그 학생들의 룸메이트는 주로 한국인인 경우가 많았고 중국인, 일본인 룸메이트도 많았습니다.

Koreans or Japanese or Chinese.

Again our goal should be - we want to improve our English

다시 한번 더 강조하면,

우리의 목적은 영어실력을 향상시키고 캐나다 문화를 경험하는 것이니,

and experience Canadian culture.

So really try to get a Canadian roommate.

룸메이트를 구하게 되면 캐나다친구로 구해보세요.

룸메이트에 대해서 나중에 한번 더 언급할게요.

Online websites, apps. These are good to quickly meet Canadians.

캐나다 친구들을 만들기에 온라인, 웹사이트, 앱에도 좋은 방법들이 많이 있습니다.

이 방법도 잠시 후에 다시 얘기하겠습니다.

I'll talk about that in a moment.

Join a club: camping, swimming, taekwondo, etc..

클럽에 가입하세요.

캠핑, 수영, 태권도 등등 다양하게 있을 겁니다.

Join a class: swimming, piano, yoga, photography, art, etc.

수업에 참여하는 방법도 있습니다.

수영, 피아노, 요가, 사진촬영, 예술 수업 등등..

These two - really good for...ah... meeting Canadians right away.

이 두가지 방법들(클럽, 수업)이 캐나다 친구들을 만나기에 정말 좋은 방법들입니다.

So a club... clubs are usually free.

클럽은 보통 자유입니다.

I had one student join a camping club.

캠핑클럽에 가입했던 한 학생이 있는데

She went camping twice a month. She met a lot of Canadians.

한달에 두 번씩 캠프를 다녔었고

캐나다 친구들과 좋은 추억을 많이 쌓았다고 합니다.

Uh...she had a good time.

I had another student. She joined a yoga class.

요가수업에 참여했던 학생도 있었습니다.

So she went to Canada to study English

그 학생도 캐나다에 영어 공부를 위해 갔었고

약 한달 뒤쯤,

after about a month, she joined a yoga class.

전부 캐나다인들인 요가 수업에 가입했고

All Canadians.

And she learned a lot of English. She made a lot of friends right away.

영어실력이 굉장히 많이 향상 되면서

캐나다 친구들도 어렵지 않게 사귈 수 있었다고 합니다.

Ok. The last two very good for meeting

이 두 가지 방법들이 캐나다 친구들 만나고, 캐나다 친구들을 만들기에 굉장히 좋은 방법들이고

이제 웹사이트와 앱에 대해서 좀 더 얘기하겠습니다.

Uh...these websites and apps work in

이 웹사이트와 앱들은 전세계 어디에서나 사용합니다.

every country so whatever country you

여러분들이 어느 국가에 있더라도 이 웹사이트나 앱들을 이용해서 외국인들을 만나볼 수 있고 친구도 만들고

are in you can use these to meet

foreigners and make friends or

girlfriend or boyfriend to improve your English.

상황에 따라 남자친구나 여자친구가 생길 수도있고 영어실력 향상에도 도움이 많이 될 것입니다.

Dating apps.

데이트 앱 중에

Tinder is probably one of the most popular uhh...

Tinder는 아마 가장 유명한 앱중 하나일 것입니다.

if you're looking for a girlfriend...

캐나다에 가서 여자친구를 만들고 싶다면

Uh...if you go to Canada - you want a girlfriend - Tinder is a good place to start.

Tinder 앱도 좋은 방법입니다.

OK Cupid is another. There are many kinds of dating apps.

다른 종류의 많은 데이트 앱들이 있으니

So when you go to another country, download an app.

해외에 가서 앱을 다운 받으면

일주일 중에 거의 평일모두, 어떤 도시는 7일 동안 계속하는 다양한 활동들이 정말 많이 있습니다 .

Well in some cities every day of the week...

there's multiple activities. It's a great way to meet friends right away.

친구들을 만나기에 굉장히 좋은 방법이죠.

And have fun.

물론, 재밌도 있겠죠.

Badoo is another app.

Badoo는 또 다른 앱입니다.

Uhh...it's... it's meant for friends, but you can make a boyfriend/girlfriend.

친구들 만나기 위한 앱이긴 하지만, 남자친구나 여자친구를 만들 수도 있겠죠.

Uh...of course if you want. But these two are good for friends.

물론 여러분이 원해야 하겠지만, 저는 이 두 가지 앱들로 좋은 친구들을 만나기 위해 추천합니다.

Meeting Canadian friends right away.

캐나다 친구들을 바로 만날 수 있는 방법들이죠.

Websites - Kijiji this is Canadian.

웹사이트 kijiji는 캐나다인이 주로 사용하고

And Craigslist - this is more international.

craigslist는 더 국제적으로 유명합니다.

These are good websites if you want to..uh...find a roommate.

이 웹사이트들은 룸메이트를 찾을 때나

Uh...if you want to buy or sell something.

어떤 물건을 사고 팔 때 좋은 사이트입니다.

So if you want to buy a bicycle or sell a phone,

자전거를 사고 싶거나 휴대폰을 팔고 싶을 때,

these sites are great to interact with Canadians.

이 사이트들이 캐나다 사람들과 소통하도록 유용하게 이용될 수 있을 거에요.

자..

Ahh...when you make your Canadian friends, you want to keep contact with them.

캐나다 친구들을 만들면, 연락을 유지하고 싶다는 생각을 하실 거에요.

And the messengers they use...uh.... Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.

캐나다인들이 주로 이용하는 메신저는 WhatsApp과

Facebook Messenger 입니다.

These two are the most common for Canadians.

이 두가지가 캐나다에서 가장 대중적인 방법입니다.

I think Americans, too.

미국도 비슷할 것이라고 생각해요.

Uh...and of course Facebook is very important.

물론, Facebook이 굉장히 중요합니다.

You need a Facebook account to keep in...

Facebook 계정을 만들어서 해외 친구들과 영어 소통을 계속 유지하세요.

...keep in contact with your English speaking friends.

Uh... if you're from Korea or Japan...

한국이나 일본에서 캐나다로 왔거나

and South East Asia - they they don't use line much in Canada.

동남 아시아에서 오셨다면, 캐나다에서 라인앱은 별로 쓰지 않으니 참고하세요.

and of course Katalk - they don't use that in Canada.

물론, 카톡도 안쓰죠.

캐나다에서는 이 앱들을 쓰지 않습니다.

If you meet a Canadian friend in Canada and you said,

캐나다에서 캐나다친구를 만났을 때,

"카톡 있어?"라고 물어본다면

"Do you have Katalk?"

They're not going to understand what you're talking about.

무슨 말을 하고있는지 이해 못할 것입니다.

They do not use that.

캐나다인들은 카톡을 안써요.

You have to use these ones. Really - if you want to talk with Canadians.

캐나다에서는 이 방법들을 이용하세요.

만약 캐나다인들과 연락을 하고싶다면 말이죠.

마지막으로 말하자면

Participate in the foreign culture. It's very important if you go to Canada,

"외국 문화에 참여하자."

캐나다에 가서 그 문화에 참여하는 것은 굉장히 중요합니다.

캐나다에 가서 제 학생들을 만났을 때

sometimes I visit my students...

Uhh...I see them not participating in the culture.

그 학생들이 캐나다 문화에 참여하고 있지 않다는 사실을 알 수 있었습니다.

Actually watching...you know... they stay

다른 한국 학생들과 어울리면서 그저 문화를 구경하고만 있던 것이었고

in their groups with other Koreans.

And they go places and they're just watching Canadian culture.

다른 장소에 가서도 그저 바라만 보고 있던 것이었죠.

Uh...this is not good. We want to participate in Canadian culture.

이건 좋은 방법이 아닙니다.

우린 캐나다 문화에 참여해야 합니다.
