In this video, we’re going to talk about adjectives.

このビデオでは、形容詞について話します。

Now, we use adjectives to describe nouns or things.

さて、私たちは名詞や物事を説明するのに形容詞を使います。

Okay, we can describe its size, its color, its shape or other things like that.

そうですね、サイズ、色、形状などを説明できます。

Okay.

So let’s take a look at the board.

それでは基板を見てみましょう。

The first noun we’re going to use is ‘marker’.

最初に使用する名詞は「マーカー」です。

“It’s a marker.”

「それはマーカーです。」

Now, I want to use an adjective to describe the color.

さて、形容詞を使って色を説明したいと思います。

I'm going to say, “It’s a ‘black’ marker.”

「それは『黒』マーカーです」と言うつもりです。

‘Black’ is the adjective.

「黒い」というのは形容詞です。

Now notice, I have to put the adjective after the article ‘a’, but before the noun ‘marker’.

ここで、形容詞を冠詞「a」の後ろ、名詞「marker」の前に置く必要があることに注意してください。

“It’s a black marker.”

「それは黒いマーカーです。」

Now, I can use another adjective to describe its size.

さて、その大きさを表すために別の形容詞を使うことができます。

“It’s a long marker.”

「長いマーカーですね。」

Okay.

Let’s try the next one.

わかった。

次も試してみましょう。

Here we have a bird.

ここに鳥がいます。

So, “It’s a bird.”

それで、「それは鳥です。」

Okay.

わかった。

I want to use another adjective to describe the color.

色を説明するために別の形容詞を使用したいと思います。

So, I’m going to say, “It’s a blue bird.”

そこで、「青い鳥です」と言うことにします。

Again, you have to put the adjective after the article, before the noun.

繰り返しますが、形容詞は冠詞の後ろ、名詞の前に置く必要があります。

I can also describe its size.

その大きさも説明できます。

“It’s a small bird.”

「小鳥ですよ。」

‘Small’ is another adjective.

「小さい」も形容詞です。

Now, at the last part, we have some apples.

さて、最後の部分ではリンゴがいくつかあります。

Three apples.

リンゴが 3 個。

Okay, remember, when we have more than one noun, it’s called a plural noun.

覚えておいてください、複数の名詞がある場合、それは複数名詞と呼ばれます。

So, we have to say, “They’re apples.”, with an ‘s’.

したがって、「s」を付けて、「彼らはリンゴです。」と言わなければなりません。

“They’re apples.”

「それらはリンゴです。」

I want to use the adjective ‘red’ to describe the color of these apples.

これらのリンゴの色を表すのに「赤」という形容詞を使いたいと思います。

So, I’m going to say, “They’re red apples.”

そこで、「赤いリンゴです」と言うことにします。

Okay.

わかった。

Here, there’s no article.

こちら、記事はありません。

There’s no ‘a’.

「あ」はありません。

That’s because there’s more than one.

それは複数あるからです。

“They’re red apples.”

「それは赤いリンゴです。」

So, I just have to put the adjective before the noun that it’s describing.

したがって、形容詞を説明する名詞の前に置く必要があります。

“They’re red apples.”

「それは赤いリンゴです。」

Okay, let’s move on to some more examples.

さて、さらにいくつかの例に移りましょう。

Okay. Now we’re going to practice asking and answering questions using adjectives.

わかった。次に、形容詞を使って質問したり、質問に答えたりする練習をしてみましょう。

Okay.

So, we have a man here.

I want to ask, “Is he a small man?”

「彼は小柄な人ですか？」と聞きたいです。

Okay.

We have the adjective ‘small’.

「小さい」という形容詞があります。

Notice, even in a question,

質問の場合でも、

we have to put the adjective after the article and before the noun.

形容詞は冠詞の後、名詞の前に置く必要があることに注意してください。

“Is he a small man?”

「彼は小柄な人ですか？」

Well, let’s take a look at this picture.

さて、この写真を見てみましょう。

The answer is, “No, he’s a _____ man.”

答えは、「いいえ、彼は _____ の男です。」です。

We need another adjective.

別の形容詞が必要です。

He’s not a small man.

彼は小さい男ではない。

So, we have to say “No, he’s a…

したがって、私たちは「いいえ、彼は…

big man.”

偉大な男です」と言わなければなりません。

Okay.

We’re going to use the adjective ‘big’.

形容詞「大きい」を使います。

Okay, let’s look at the next one.

さて、次を見てみましょう。

“Is it a _____ table?”

「それは_____テーブルですか？」

The answer is “Yes, it is.”

答えは「はい、そうです」です。

We need an adjective to describe color, shape or size or something.

色、形、大きさなどを説明するには形容詞が必要です。

Well, we can’t really describe the color.

そうですね、色をうまく説明することはできません。

So, I think we should try the shape.

なので、その形を試してみるべきだと思います。

Okay.

わかった。

Well, “Is it a….

さて、「それは…。

round table?”

ラウンドテーブル？"

And the answer is “Yes, it is.”

そして答えは「はい、その通りです」です。

Okay, and last, we have two dresses.

さて、最後にドレスが 2 着あります。

Okay. So that means the noun is plural.

わかった。つまり名詞は複数形ということになります。

In that case, for the questions, we begin with ‘are’.

その場合、質問は「あれ」から始めます。

“Are they red dresses?”

「赤いドレスですか？」

Okay, the adjective is ‘red’.

はい、形容詞は「赤い」です。

But, “Are they red dresses?”

でも、「赤いドレスなの？」

“No, they’re…

「いいえ、それは…

blue dresses.”

青いドレスです。」

Okay.

わかった。

“No, they’re…blue dresses.”

「いいえ、それは…青いドレスです。」

Okay.

わかった。
