in words like these.

If you pronounce this like veggie table,

everyone still understands you.

No one thinks you're stupid

and it sounds kind of cute, honestly,

so don't worry, but some normal words can sound

like very bad words if you mispronounce them.

So in today's lesson, I'm gonna show you

how to pronounce everything perfectly in English,

so you never have any problems.

First, what am I wearing?

Clothes, say that again with me, clothes.

In this word, is this part difficult to pronounce?

Of course, it is.

Lots of languages don't have the th sound,

but I have good news.

We don't really pronounce it.

So, instead of clothes,

try this word, close.

or if you like the Cockney accent,

you do have the option to pronounce this like clothes.

So that th becomes a uv which might be easier for you

Next, look at your bed.

What's on there right now?

A sheet or a shit?

To pronounce these correctly,

you need to remember two things.

One, is your tongue position.

The position of your tongue is very important.

When you pronounce the ee in sheet,

you need to put tension on your tongue.

This creates a smaller space in your mouth

which gets a higher pitch tone, ee,

tension in the tongue, ee

but if you completely relax the tongue, make it dead,

you get that lazy e sound,

e, e, tension in the tongue, sheet,

dead relaxed tongue, shit

and two, the ee make it a long sound,

e, make it a short sound, sheet, shit

Number three asks, how are you feeling?

Are you feeling...

Com for table?

No, comfortable? No! Cumf tuh,

this is a shuh.

Also, you don't have to pronounce the t,

could be a d, cumf duh and then bull.

You have an option with the L you could pronounce it bull.

You could also pronounce this bull, ul, bull.

Say it with me,

Cumf tuh ble, comfortable.

If you want to pronounce the t like a t, fine.

You want to pronounce it like a d, fine.

The l pronounce it like a bull or bull,

everything is fine. It's your preference.

And this is the same with this word, vege table?

No, say it with me,

veg tuh ble, and it's the same thing again.

Veg duh, veg tuh, both felt good.

Ble, ble, let's practice both ways.

Vegetable, the other way,

veg tuh ble, vegetable.

The next word is, oh, no, it's that th sound again.

Just say this word instead, munts

and that t, it's like a glottal t, munts, months.

And the singular, month finishes with th

as with all words which finish in a th sound.

If your accent sounds quite cockneyish, you have the option

of changing the unvoiced th to a f sound, munf

and also that n sounds like a m, month.

Yes, your teacher probably won't like this

but what's your teacher gonna do, arrest all the Cockneys.

Our fifth and sixth words are exactly those,

fifth and sixth.

Yeah, it can be hard to pronounce sixth, fifth

but don't worry, you've got an amazing teacher

who's gonna show you how to do it perfectly.

This word, pronounce it like this,

fith, fith, much easier right?

And then this word, yes you could pronounce it sixth,

but I must stress,

we don't often pronounce things exactly

how they're spelled.

To speak naturally means

to speak comfortably and confidently

which usually means quite quickly and quite lazily.

So, the way to cheat the pronunciation hack looks like this,

Sikth, sikth, say it with me, sikth.

You're amazing! Oh, next we have 90 and 19.

Even us, who grew up speaking English all our lives,

sometimes, we still need to ask, wait, did you say 19 or 90?

And when we do that,

we emphasize the teen in 19 and the nine in 90,

so that is how you can make this sound clearer.

Emphasize the nine in 90 and the teen in 19.

But yeah, don't worry if you're speaking fast,

sometimes, we need to ask you again.

Which number did you mean? This or this?

Oh my God!

Everyone has problems with this one, but don't worry.

You don't have to pronounce this

like jewellery because we don't.

This one, I often hear it mispronounced like cool chore,

no, kal culture,

again, that schwa sound, culture, culture,

nice and easy.

And this one, literature, no! Literature.

Lots of lazy sounds in these words, because we are lazy.

Say it with me, li tera ture.

So this sounds like a glottal stop at the beginning.

So it stops after lit, literature.

Say it with me, literature.

Nice! You are amazing!
