よく使われる 5 つの 慣用句について説明します。

All right, so first expression is:

わかりました。 最初の表現は、

we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

「そこに着いたら、その橋を渡ります」です。

It means to face the problem when the problem arises.

問題が起きたときは、その問題に向き合うという意味です。

For example,

たとえば

if your mom is having a birthday party and you

、お母さん が誕生日パーティーをしていて

need to go buy a present,

、プレゼントを買いに行か

but you don't know what to buy,

なければならない のに、何を買え

you might say,

ばいいのかわからない

oh we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

場合は、そこに着いたらその橋を渡ります.

Meaning we’ll buy the present

when it’s closer to her birthday.

彼女の誕生日が近づいたらプレゼントを買うという意味です。

Second idiom: burn the bridge.

2 番目の慣用句: 橋を燃やす。

What does it mean?

どういう意味ですか？

To burn the bridge means cutting off relationships

橋を燃やすということは、 関係

or opportunities.

や機会を遮断することを意味します。

For example,

たとえば

if you’re leaving from one job to another,

、ある仕事から別の仕事に移る

you want to leave on good terms,

場合、良い条件で退職し

so you might want to say something like,

たいので 、「ああ、その橋を燃やさないでください」のようなことを言いたいと思うかもしれ

oh don’t burn that bridge.

Don't cut off completely that relationship.

Clever one.

Number three: bite the bullet.

3つ目：弾丸を噛む。

What does it mean?

どういう意味ですか？

To bite the bullet means to do something even

銃弾を噛むとは、

though you don't really want to do it, to say

本当はしたくなく ても何かをすること、

something very unpleasant.

非常に不快なことを言うことを意味します。

For example, suppose you have to stay awake

たとえば、翌朝

at night for a project for the next morning,

somebody might tell you,

oh you have to bite the bullet and just stay awake

and do the project.

Sometimes it is what it is.

Number four: cut somebody some slack.

4 番目: 誰かのたるみを減らします。

What does it mean?

どういう意味ですか？

To cut somebody some slack is to make allowances

誰かに余裕 を持たせることは

for somebody and to give them additional freedom or leeway.

、誰かに余裕を持たせ、 追加の自由や余裕を与えることです。

For example, if you’re a teacher out of school,

たとえば、あなたが 学校に通っていない教師

and one child at the end of the day is not paying attention

で、一日の終わりに一人の子供が 注意を払っていない、

or something like that,

you might say, oh cut them some slack

because it’s the end of the day.

And they’re tired

and they’re thinking about going home soon.

Number five and last one: it’s not rocket science.

What does it mean?

It’s not rocket science is one of my favourites.

It means that something is not as complicated or as

hard as rocket science would be.

For example, let’s say you’re baking a cake and,

say, somebody is helping you

but you’re having a hard time with it.

Somebody might say,

it’s not rocket science

because baking a cake is supposed to be

really easy compared to doing rocket science.
