Hi Bob the Canadian here.

00:02
Today I’m going to tell you two jokes and one riddle.
1
2090
4229
00:06
Jokes and riddles are great ways to learn a language.
2
6319
4591
00:10
Jokes are basically small stories that have a funny ending or a punchline.
3
10910
7130
00:18
Riddles are sometimes questions or phrases where you have to guess the answer.
4
18040
4800
00:22
So let’s look at two jokes and one riddle and stay around until the end because the
5
22840
4940
00:27
riddle in my opinion is a really good one.
6
27780
4300
00:32
So there was a guy named Joe and he was driving a truck and he had the truck full of penguins.
7
32080
8580
00:40
He was driving along and all of the sudden he fell asleep and his truck went off the
8
40660
4960
00:45
road and flipped onto its side.
9
45620
3340
00:48
And all of the penguins escaped.
10
48960
2980
00:51
No one was hurt, but the penguins were outside of the truck.
11
51940
5470
00:57
Joe didn’t know what to do, and then he noticed another truck was pulling over off
12
57410
5790
01:03
of the highway.
13
63200
1160
01:04
And a man got out and said, “Hi!
14
64360
2640
01:07
My name is Frank.
15
67000
1610
01:08
It looks like you have a lot of penguins loose here.
16
68610
3860
01:12
My truck is empty, let’s put the penguins in my truck and I’ll take them wherever
17
72470
5820
01:18
you were originally taking them.”
18
78290
2750
01:21
Joe was very, very relieved.
19
81040
2400
01:23
So him and Frank, together, they rounded up all the penguins and they got them into Frank’s
20
83440
6890
01:30
truck and Joe said, “I was originally taking the penguins to the zoo.
21
90330
5870
01:36
If you could take them to the zoo for me I would really appreciate that.”
22
96200
4290
01:40
And Frank said, “No problem.
23
100490
1550
01:42
I’ll take them to the zoo and he headed off.”
24
102040
3619
01:45
Now a couple of days later Joe was driving along and saw Frank go by in his truck with
25
105659
6891
01:52
all the penguins in the back still.
26
112550
3210
01:55
So he chased him with his vehicle and he waved at him to pull over off of the highway and
27
115760
7130
02:02
he pulled over and Joe went up to Frank’s truck and he said, “Frank!
28
122890
4830
02:07
What are you doing?
29
127720
1000
02:08
I told you to take the penguins to the zoo!”
30
128720
3630
02:12
And Frank said, “I did and we had so much fun so today I think I’m gonna take them
31
132350
6340
02:18
to the museum!”
32
138690
1880
02:20
Hahaha.
33
140570
1100
02:21
So I’m not sure if you got the punchline - the end of the joke.
34
141670
4590
02:26
I don’t want to spend too much time explaining the joke, but the funny part is that Frank
35
146260
5480
02:31
was treating the penguins as if they were visiting relatives or as if they were children
36
151740
6740
02:38
who wanted to go to the zoo to see all the animals and then they wanted to go somewhere
37
158480
4950
02:43
else that was equally as fun or enjoyable.
38
163430
3889
02:47
So that’s joke #1.
39
167319
1521
02:48
Let’s look at joke #2.
40
168840
2800
02:51
So joke #2, I’m going to use the same two guys.
41
171640
3990
02:55
So Joe and Frank are really good friends now.
42
175630
3730
02:59
And one weekend Frank says, “Hey Joe, let’s go and rent a boat at a boat rental shop,
43
179360
8250
03:07
and let’s go do some fishing.”
44
187610
2170
03:09
And Joe says, “That sounds great, let’s do that!”
45
189780
3320
03:13
So Frank and Joe drive out to a lake and they go to a boat rental shop and they pay their
46
193100
6130
03:19
money and they’re told, “ You can have boat number 7.”
47
199230
4030
03:23
Frank and Joe get into boat number 7 and they head out into the lake and they basically
48
203260
5730
03:28
start fishing and they’re catching all kinds of fish.
49
208990
3990
03:32
So Joe says to Frank, “Frank!
50
212980
2350
03:35
This is a really good spot.
51
215330
1710
03:37
Let’s put an ‘X’ on the bottom of the boat so we remember where to come tomorrow.”
52
217040
5800
03:42
And Frank says, “Joe, that won’t work.
53
222840
4060
03:46
What if we don’t get the same boat?”
54
226900
2680
03:49
So, I’m not sure if you get that one.
55
229580
3450
03:53
It kind of has two punchlines.
56
233030
2020
03:55
The first punchline is if you put an ‘X’ on the bottom of a boat it doesn’t help
57
235050
4940
03:59
you find the same spot on the lake.
58
239990
2389
04:02
And then we think that the other person actually knows that that’s a bad idea but then they
59
242379
6071
04:08
make almost as bad of a mistake by saying, “What if we don’t get the same boat?”
60
248450
6560
04:15
So that was joke #2.
61
255010
1460
04:16
Let’s look at riddle #1.
62
256470
2680
04:19
So this riddle is:
63
259150
1359
04:20
What’s black and white and read all over?
64
260509
5050
04:25
So What’s black and white and read all over?
65
265559
4350
04:29
So think about that for a minute.
66
269909
1461
04:31
I’ll count to five.
67
271370
1590
04:32
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
68
272960
4030
04:36
The answer is: A newspaper.
69
276990
3539
04:40
So this riddle is a little bit of a play on words.
70
280529
3320
04:43
You thought I said, “What’s black and white and red all over.”
71
283849
5051
04:48
But what I actually said was, “What’s black and white and read all over?”
72
288900
6239
04:55
And you’ll notice a difference between the colour red and the verb which indicates reading.
73
295139
5490
05:00
So they answer is a newspaper.
74
300629
1430
05:02
A newspaper is black.
75
302059
1750
05:03
It’s white, and it’s read all over the world.
76
303809
4290
05:08
Well Bob the Canadian here.

308099

80

5570
