Does Alcohol Help You Speak Another Language? | Go Natural English

Hey naturals, how's everything going? I hope you're doing great

today a lot of you have been asking me about how to improve your

Fluency and your confidence in English now. I don't know if you've ever heard people joke about how to

improve your fluency in a foreign language by drinking

Alcohol now some people believe. It's true

there was actually a study done about the effects of alcohol on your ability to speak a foreign language in the

1970s English speakers were asked to drink different amounts of alcohol

and then try a Thai pronunciation

Test and they had never studied Thai language before they had no

Knowledge of the language or pronunciation it was found that between different groups one that had no alcohol

One that had one ounce one group that had two ounces

And I had three ounces of alcohol the group that actually had one ounce of alcohol

performed the best on the Thai pronunciation test

Why is this well a lot of people know that the effects of alcohol include?

Making you feel a bit more

Confident it lowers your inhibitions

It makes you feel a little bit more brave less. Shy more willing to

Say things that you wouldn't normally say or do things that you wouldn't normally do for speaking a foreign language

This could actually be helpful, and that's why some people say that drinking alcohol

Helps you to speak a foreign language now. Let's look at the facts here

Why do they say alcohol is helpful for you to speak a foreign language because it lowers your inhibitions and makes you feel

More confident, but there's just a little problem

With this strategy if you need alcohol to speak a foreign language

You're gonna have to drink all the time imagine if you need English for work

You'd have to be drunk at work, and that's never good idea. Let's be honest

This is maybe fine if you are at a bar, or you're going out to party

But in real life everyday situations, this isn't gonna work for most of us

what will help us to actually improve your fluency and

Really have confidence is to develop some strategies for real

Everyday confidence without alcohol. I have nothing against alcohol

I'm not judging whether you drink

Or don't drink some people drink some people don't I love you all you guys, but here's what I would suggest

Develop your confidence

Everyone whether you drink, or don't drink we have to have strategies for good self-esteem

How can we do that well here's some suggestions?

first of all

Understand that mistakes are not bad. I know we probably all went to school

We all had teachers that told us our mistakes were bad and not to make mistakes

And maybe they yelled at you or maybe your classmates told you you were dumb well

Forget all of that so what if you make a mistake if someone makes fun of you just say so what you're learning

That's how we learn so we need to change our mindset and see mistakes as a positive thing

You're doing the right thing when you make mistakes because you're trying new thing is maybe new

Vocabulary maybe saying a new word that you've never said out loud

Before you've only read it and so you make a mistake with the pronunciation. That's okay

Maybe you made a mistake with a structure and grammar

It's okay

So look at mistakes as something that in the long term will actually benefit

You another strategy for developing confidence is

To realize that most people want to help you most people if you tell them I'm learning English

Please be patient with me. I'm working really hard, and if you ask for their help

They will want to help you they want to see you succeed and a third strategy is to begin

with a

Positive mindset, I like to begin each day

Affirmations with thoughts that will bring me into a positive

Mindset for the day so for example after I wake up

I will tell myself today is gonna be a great day. If I make mistakes. That's okay

I'm gonna learn so much today

People are gonna be nice

And I'm gonna smile and be happy

Today and things like that you can tell yourself what you would like to but those are just some examples that I might tell myself

It's really important to stay positive

And that will help you to have confidence so just to review our strategies here be okay with making mistakes

really believe that other people want to see you succeed and

Begin your day with a positive mindset and keep cultivating that positive mindset throughout your day

And you know what's awesome about that is your mindset is contagious, and you're gonna make other people around you feel more
