Also-I do this-we talk to our pets like they're babies.

You're not going to get the job, and people might think you're a little strange.

직업을 얻지도 못할테고, 사람들이 아마 여러분을 좀 이상한 사람이라고 생각할 거에요.

So baby talk is good for three people, three situations.

그래서 '유아어'는 세사람, 세가지 경우에만 쓰세요.

Other than that, don't use it.

그런 경우가 아니라면, 쓰지마세요.

You probably know some words that are baby talk or the intonation, but maybe there are

여러분은 아마 몇가지 유아어나 억양 정도는 알고계실거에요, 하지만 몇몇 단어들은

some words that will surprise you.

The number one are...

첫번째로

One and two or the top ones are "mommy" and "daddy".

하나, 둘.. 가장먼저 알아야 할 것들은 'mommy' ' daddy''입니다.

So, I hear a lot of grown men say: "My mommy works in the mall."

다 큰 남자들이 '우리 엄마는 쇼핑몰에서 일해'라고 말하는걸 정말 많이 들었어요.

"mommy" and "daddy" are children's words.

'mommy' 'daddy'는 애들이 쓰는 말이에요.

If a grown man says: "I love my mommy", we're going to think some strange things are happening

with you and your mommy.

Again, this is baby talk.

More formal we can say: "mother" and "father".

So, it doesn't really matter which one you use, "dad" or "father", "mom" or "mother",

'dad' 또는 'father' , 'mom' 또는 'mother' 어느 것을 쓰던 상관없습니다.

just please don't say "mommy" and "daddy".

그냥 제발 'mommy' , 'daddy'라고만 말하지 하지마세요.

It makes you sound like you're a little princess or that you have a very strange relationship

"R" is very difficult for babies to say, so don't feel bad.

They're learning how to get the "r" out.

So, instead of saying "r", they're going to say "w".

So, you will hear in TV shows, when people say:

"Aw, you're just a widdle boy".

'Aw, your're just a widdle boy'와 같은 말을 할 때,

"Widdle" is a replacement for "l" in this case or "little".

'Widdle'은 'l'의 대체, 이 경우엔 'little'을 대체하는 거죠.

So, we would say: "little", but they say: "widdle".

그러니까 우리는 'little'이라고 말할 수 있지만, 그들은 'widdle'이라고 말하죠.

"Oh, just a widdle boy."

'oh, just a widdle boy'

If you can't say the "r", it might sound like: "riddle", but you say: "widdle".

만약 여러분이 'r'을 발음하지 못한다면, 그건 'riddle'처럼 들릴 수도 있겠지만, 여러분은 아마 'widdle'이라고 발음할거에요.

I used to do this, when I was a child I could not say "r", so I said "d", I said: "budder".

저도 이러곤 했어요. 제가 어렸을 때, 저는 'r'을 말음하지 못했어요. 그래서 'd'라고 ..'budder'이라고 말해죠.

I called my brother: "my budder".

Now, "butter" in the pronunciation that you have here sounds like the delicious spread

이제 'budder'는 발음 상으로 토스트나 야채등에 바르는 맛있는 스프레드인

you put on toast and vegetables.

'버터'처럼 들리네요.(버터가 표기상으론 butter이지만 발음으론 budder처럼 들리는 것을 말함)

So I would say: "Where's my butter?"

그래서 저는 'Where's my butter?' 내 버터 어딨어? 라곤 말하곤 했죠. (실제론 where is my brother? 오빠 어딨어?라고 말하는 것이었음.)

Butter is delicious, so maybe I just really wanted butter, my parents got confused.

버터는 맛있어요. 그러니 아마 저는 진짜로 버터를 원했을지도 모르죠, 저희 부모님은 헷갈려하셨어요.

Probably that's what happened.

아마, 그랬을거에요.

So, you'll also notice that in English pronunciation, in American and Canadian pronunciation at least,

그럼 ,여러분은 알아채실 거에요, 영어발음에서는 , 적어도 미국이나 캐나다 발음에서는

if it's a "t" sound we usually sound it like a "d".

만약에 그것이 't'소리라면, 우리는 그것을 'd'처럼 소리냅니다.

So, in Canada and America we don't say: "butter", we say: "budder".

그러니까 캐나다와 미국에서는 'butter'가 아닌 'butter'라고 발음합니다.

And we don't say: "little", we say: "liddle".

That'll be another lesson, though.

So, how do we make baby talk?

How do we make baby words?

어떻게 유아 단어들을 만들어낼까요?

We have two ways to do it.

2가지 방법이 있습니다.

One of them is we double the sounds.

한가지는 발음을 중첩하는 것입니다.

So: "poo" is...

그럼, 'poo'(똥)은...

Oh, I'm very good at drawing poo.

오, 전 '똥'을 잘그려요.

Maybe you say: "number two".

아마 여러분은 이걸 '2번'(number two는 영어로 응가, 대변이라는 뜻이 있다.)이라고 부를거에요.

You can call it also "shit" in slang.

또한 여러분은 이걸 슬랭(속어)으로 'shit'이라고도 말할 수도 있어요.

So, as an adult if you wanted to, you could say: "shit", some people get mad at that word.

그러니까,어른으로써 이걸 말할 때, 여러분이 원한다면, 'shit'이라고 말할 수 있겠지만, 몇몇 사람들은 그 단어를 듣고 기분 나쁠 수도 있어요.

You can say: "number two", or you can say: "poo".

'number2' 혹은 'poo'라고 말할 수 있어요.

But for children, we double it, we say: "poo-poo".

하지만, 아이들에게 말할 땐,이 단어를 중첩해서 'poo-poo'라고 말해요.

So you will hear maybe parents saying to the baby: "Do you have to go poo-poo?

여러분은 아마 부모들이 아기들에게 '응가하러 가야하니?' 라고 말하는 걸 들을 수 있을거에요.

Do you have to...?

...해야하니?

Did you make a poo-poo in your...?"

니.....에 응가했니?

The baby's probably like: "I just shat myself, mom.

아기들은 아마 이러겠죠. ' 나 방금 똥 샀어요'

Can you change my diapers, please?"

제 기저귀 좀 갈아주실래요?

Also we have: "pee-pee".

또 pee-pee도 있어요.

Okay? Pee-pee is urine.

pee-pee는 소변이에요.

So you can say: "Oh, excuse me. I have to pee."

여러분은 이렇게 말할 수 있어요, 실례하지만, 오줌이 마려운데요.

Very slang.

매우 속어이죠.

"I have to use the toilet."

저 화장실 좀 쓸게요.

Or we say "number one".

혹은 '1번 (number one-쉬, 소변이라는 뜻-주로 아이들이 사용)이라고 말할 수 있겠죠.

So to make this an adult word, we just take off the second word.

이 단어를 어른이 쓰는 말로 바꾸기 위해선, 두번째단어를 빼면 됩니다.

One of my favourites, always makes me giggle is "bum-bum".

제가 제일 좋아하는 단어들 중 하나고, 항상 키득거리게 하는 단어, 'bum-bum'이죠.

I think when I was a kid my mom said "bum-bum" a lot.

제가 어렸을 때, 저희 엄마가 저한테 'bum-bum'이란 단어를 정말 많이 얘기 하셨던 것 같아요.

I know she said "bumbaleerie", which is even too funny for me to say.

'bumbaleerie'라고 말하셨던 것도 기억나는데, 제가 말하기에도 너무 웃겨요.

"Bum-bum" is the ass.

'Bum-bum'은 엉덩이 입니다.

It's your ass.

'이건 당신의 엉덩이입니다.'

It's... I don't even know another polite way to say it.

'이건...' 저도 모르겠어요. 이걸 고상하게 말할 수 있는 다른 방법이 있는지.

You can say: "bum", but for children we say: "bum-bum" and it's funny.

우린 이걸 'bum'이라고 하지만, 아이들에게 말할 땐, 'bum-bum'이라고 하죠. 재밌어요.

In slang, we say: "ass".

속어로는, 'ass'라고 하죠.

So you can say to someone: "Hey.

그러니까 이렇게 말할 수 있는거죠.

Nice bum-bum."

'이봐요, 엉덩이 멋지네요'

And they're like: "Thank you." Okay?

그러면 이러겠죠'고마워요' 알겠죠?

Then we have a boy part and we have the girl part.

그럼 여기 '남자의 그곳'과 '여자의 그곳' 이 있네요.

So we for some reason do not want to tell children that they have a penis.

우리는 몇가지 이유로 아이들에게 (penis)성기라고 말하고 싶지 않아해요.

We call it a "wee-wee".

우리는 그걸 'wee-wee'라고 부르죠.

Mm-hmm.

음...음...

So you might hear someone say...

아마 누군가 이런 말을 하는걸 들을 수 있을거에요.

A little boy might say: "I went pee-pee with my wee-wee."

어린 남자아이가 저 '내 wee-wee (고추-성기)로 오줌 눴어요' 라고 말할 수도 있을 거에요.

And you're like: "That's cool, kid. Awesome."

그러면 여러분은 이러겠죠, '잘했어,꼬마야, 멋지네.''

I just took a piss.

'나 방금 오줌 눴어. '

And then the girl part, the vagina, of course we could not tell the children it's a vagina,

some people might call a "woo-woo".

We also have this expression...

또 이런 표현도 있어요.

We have expressions that we use.

우리가 쓰는 표현들이 있죠.

We say: "Oopsie daisy!

'Oopsie daisy!'라고 하죠.

So if you have a child and your child falls over or you drop something, and you don't

여러분에게 아이가 있다면, 그 아이가 넘어지거나 무언갈 떨어뜨렸을 때

want to say: "Shit", people will say: "Oopsie daisy."

'Shit(젠장)'이라고 하고 싶진 않을 거에요. 그럴 때, 'Oopsie daisy(이런, 어머나)'

As we get older, we just say: "Shit" or "Oops".

나이가 들면서, 우린 그냥 'shit(젠장)' 이나 'oops'(이런)이라고 하죠.

So, if you want to be not as slang as Ronnie is, you can just say: "Oops".

그러니까, 만약 여러분이 로니만큼 속되고 싶지 않다면, 그냥 'Oops(이런)'라고 말하면 되요.

"Oopsie daisy" is very childish.

'Oopsie daisy'는 너무 유치해요.

So when we talk about this, we don't want to seem like a child.

We want to seem like mature adults.

성숙한 어른으로 보이고 싶어하죠.

Jammies are the baby or the childish word for PJs.

'Jammies'는 PJ부르는 유아어에요.

Now, you might say: "I don't get it, Ronnie, what are PJs?"

이제, 여러분은 이렇게 물을 수도 있겠죠, '이해가 안되요 로니 PJ가 뭐죠?'

What do you think PJs, p-jammies, pajamas.

Woohoo. So, the clothes that we wear at nighttime to go to bed, we call them...

For children we call them jammies.

아이들에게 말할 땐, 'Jammies'라고 불러요.

In short form we call them "PJs" and the long word is "pajamas".

줄여서 'PJ' 길게 말하면, 'pajamas(파자마)'

When you jump into your beddy-bye with your jammies, you are going to beddy-bye.

여러분 jammies(파자마)'를 입고 'beddy-bye(침대)'에 뛰어들면, beddy-bye(코 하다,자장하다.) 할 거에요.

So, "beddy-bye" is your bed or it's bedtime.

그러니까 'beddy-bye'는 침대 혹은 취침시간이라는 것을 뜻하죠.

And the other way that we make words are we simply add a "y" to some existing words.

단어들을 만드는 다른 방법으론, 간단하게 몇가지 기존의 단어에 'y'를 붙여요.

So, you've got your jammies on, you're in your beddy-byes, and you need your blankey.

그러니까, '넌 파자마를 입었고, 침대에 있으니, 네 'blankey'가 필요하지. '

"Blankey" is the child's word for blanket.

'blankey'는 아이들 말로 'blanket(담요)'에요.

You might see children with a blankey, and it's their security blanket, but they call

아마 여러분은아이들이 담요를 가지고 있는데, 그 아이들의 애착담요죠,

it "blankey" or "baba" sometimes.

그런데 아이들이 그것을 'blankey'또는 간혹 'baba'라고 부르는 것을 볼 수 있을거에요.

Depends on the age of the child.

아이의 연령에 달렸어요.

Children really like animals, but they can't...

아이들은 동물들을 정말 좋아하죠, 하지만 그 아이들은 ...

I guess they just can't say "horse", so they say: "horsey" or "doggy".

제 생각엔 'horse'라고 하지 못해서 'horsey'혹은 'doggy'라고 말하는 것 같아요.

Now, we say this sometimes.

We say: "kitty" or they say "kitty", and they say "ducky".

So, the way that we make the words cute is we add a "y" to them.

그러니까 단어들을 귀엽게 만들려면 단어에 'y'를 붙이면 됩니다.

We usually use it with animals, I don't know why.

주로 동물에 이런식으로 하죠. 왜인지는 몰라요.

So, very important to understand that it's okay to use these childish words,

그럼, 유아어를 써도 괜찮은지를 아는 것이 매우 중요해요.

but you have to know when to use them, talking to children, talking to dogs or animals.

그러나 언제 쓰는지를 알아야해요. 들에게 말할 때, 개들 혹은 동물들에게 말할 때.

"Hey, look at the doggy."

'저기 멍멍이 좀 봐'

The dog's like: "That's a duck." Okay?

그럼 개가 이러겠죠'저건 오리야, 알겠어?'

And if you're speaking to your partner.

그리고 여러분의 파트너에게 말한다면,

It's cool.

그건 괜찮아요.

Please be careful, don't use them in job interviews, don't use them when you first meet people

면접이나, 처음 만나는 사람에게 유아어를 쓰지 않도록 주의하세요.

because you will seem very childish and that's not cool.
