really appreciate it, and no i'm not just

saying that because you had gave me a

hand with the boxes in the Attic i

genuinely really appreciate having a

little bit of adult conversation I

feel like I'm going mental

if I'm being honest I've had a nightmare

recently I can't get the babies to go to

sleep, and I'm absolutely shattered you

know it if they happen to lie in in the

morning then the workmen wake me up

because they're outside making a racket

I can't remember the last time i had

more than four hours solid sleep i

overslept

the other day I had a job interview at

nine o'clock and i overslept because i'm

that tired obviously i messed up on that

one

haven't had another job interview for

ages anyway I'm sure I'll be fine i just

need to take some time out try and

recharge the batteries

yeah and I'm sure their kids will start

sleeping through soon enough just one of

those things isn't? it's

what babies do, I just, you know, I never

expected twins and I never expected that

it would be as hard as it is

sorry don't mean to rain on your parade

or anything

this is English like a native what

you've just been watching is a monologue

so that you can get an idea of natural

English speech so i'm going to go

through with you some of the things that

I said in that monologue and explain

them to you to help you to understand so

I said you gave me a hand with the boxes

in the Attic so to give someone a hand

is to help them so i might say to you

I'm washing the car could you give me a

hand

so literally bring your hands and help i

also said I've been having a nightmare

is being a nightmare when we say this we

mean that something has been very

unpleasant or very stressful so if you

have a day where everything goes wrong

you would say that day was a nightmare i

said when the baby's lie in the lion is

a phrasal verb which just means to stay

in bed longer than normal so most people

who were from monday to friday will have

a line on saturday and sunday because

they don't have an alarm to wake them up

I talked about the workmen who were

making a racket now they're not

literally outside stringing up a tennis

racket or anything like that in this

context to make a racket is to make a

lot of noise usually used in the

negative sense i shut up you're making a

racket i said because i was so tired i

had overslept this means you sleep

longer than you intend to

so if you want to get up at eight

o'clock but you sleep right through your

along and actually wake up at nine

o'clock then you have over slept very

different to slept over which is to stay

at somebody's house i use the word ages

i said i haven't

something in ages when we use this it

means a very long time I haven't done it

in ages

I haven't done it in a very long time I

said I need some time out to have time

out is to have a break away from

whatever it is you're doing and to relax

and have a relaxing moment in sports you

might see some people doing this they're

calling for timeout they want the game

to stop so they can have chance to

recharge rethink change their strategy

they're asking for time out so we have

time out in life time to relax away from

the normal routine i also said because

my child was sick i would have to take a

raincheck to take a raincheck means to

postpone something was planned until a

later date

so to hold it to pause it until a later

time

so if something is booked in for monday

that's saying you are having a cup of

tea on Monday with booked it is in the

diary but I can't do it so i'll ask for

a rain check which means we'll still

have a cup of tea but not on Monday

we'll do it on friday instead so we

booked it for another time
