What is the difference between 'WONDER' and 'WANDER'? Learn English with Mr Duncan

It is true that English can be a confusing language.

영어가 혼란스러운 언어인 것은 사실이다.

There are words that look the same or sound similar, but have completely different meanings from each other.

비슷해 보이거나 발음이 비슷하지만, 의미가 전혀 다른 단어들이 있습니다.

Here is a good example of this situation.

이 상황의 좋은 예는 다음과 같습니다.

The words ‘wonder’ with an ‘o’ and ‘wander’ with an ‘a’.

‘wonder’라는 단어는 ‘o’로 시작하고, ‘wander’라는 단어는 ‘a’로 시작합니다.

The first one relates to the feeling of amazement.

첫 번째는 놀라움과 관련된 것입니다.

As a verb the word ‘wonder’ means to speculate or consider the matter of a certain thing in a curious way.

동사로 쓰일 때 'wonder'라는 단어는 어떤 사물에 대해 호기심 어린 방식으로 추측하거나 고려하는 것을 의미합니다.

A general way of thinking about a particular thing is to wonder.

특정한 사물에 대해 생각하는 일반적인 방법은 궁금해하는 것입니다.

You might wonder about the universe.

당신은 우주에 대해 궁금해 할지도 모릅니다.

You might wonder about the meaning of life.

당신은 인생의 의미가 무엇인지 궁금할 것입니다 .

You might wonder about your future.

당신은 당신의 미래에 대해 궁금해 할 수도 있습니다.

“I wonder what I will do with my life.”

"나는 내 인생에서 무엇을 할지 궁금하다 ."

To ponder in a curious way about something is to wonder.

무엇인가에 대해 호기심을 가지고 고민한다는 것은 궁금해한다는 뜻이다.

With an object you might wonder.

물건에 대해서는 궁금할 수도 있겠습니다.

An actual thing might cause you to ask questions and wonder.

실제의 일이 당신에게 질문을 던지고 궁금증을 불러일으킬 수도 있습니다.

You want to find out more about it.

당신은 그것에 대해 더 알고 싶어합니다 .

You ask... “I wonder how that machine works”.

당신은 묻습니다... "그 기계가 어떻게 작동하는지 궁금해요" 무언가에 대해

To be amazed or deeply interested in something is also referred to as wonder.

놀라움이나 깊은 관심을 갖는 것도 경이로움이라고 합니다.

You might wonder at the beautiful spring flowers.

여러분은 아름다운 봄꽃을 보고 궁금해하실 수도 있겠습니다.

As an adjective a person lost in their thoughts might appear to be wondering about something.

형용사로 쓰이면 생각에 잠긴 사람은 무언가에 대해 궁금해하는 것처럼 보일 수 있습니다.

As a noun, the feeling of curiosity or amazement is wonder.

명사로는 호기심이나 놀라움을 뜻하는 wonder가 쓰인다.

The feeling of wonder is a strong emotion.

경이로움이라는 느낌은 강한 감정이다.

To feel wonder.

경이로움을 느껴보세요.

The emotion felt when experiencing something new or exciting is wonder.

새로운 것, 흥미로운 것을 경험할 때 느끼는 감정은 경이로움입니다.

Then we have the word ‘wander’ with an ‘a’.

그리고 ‘a’가 들어간 ‘wander’라는 단어가 있습니다.

As a verb the word ‘wander’ means to move around freely, sometimes in a random or unplanned way.

동사로 '방황하다'라는 단어는 자유롭게, 때로는 무작위적이거나 계획되지 않은 방식으로 움직이는 것을 의미합니다.

To walk around in a general direction is 'wander'.

일반적인 방향으로 걷는 것을 '방황하다'라고 합니다.

You might wander through a forest.

숲을 헤매는 경우도 있을 겁니다.

A romantic couple might wander through the park.

로맨틱한 커플이 공원을 산책할 수도 있습니다.

In this sense, we are expressing the action of roaming.

이런 의미에서 우리는 배회하는 행위를 표현하고 있는 것입니다.

To roam around is to wander.

돌아다니는 것은 방황하는 것입니다.

You might wander around the garden to get some fresh air.

신선한 공기를 마시기 위해 정원을 돌아다닐 수도 있습니다.

A carefree journey is to wander around.

걱정없는 여행은 돌아다니는 것이다.

As a noun, the word ‘wander’ is the journey.

명사로서 'wander'라는 단어는 여행입니다.

You might go for a wander in the park.

공원을 산책해 보는 것도 좋습니다.

You might take a wander around the streets of London and look in the shops.

런던의 거리를 돌아다니며 상점을 구경해 보세요.
