It has been a very strange month.

I don't think I will ever forget this month

ever in my life for various reasons.

Coming up today, we have lots of things to talk about, many things.

And we are all going to share it together right here.

I remember years ago in one of my former jobs

that I did when I was just a young person.

Everyone has to do jobs.

They have to get involved in a career

that maybe they did not intend to get into.

But I used to work in it at the weekend.

I hated it.

Can I just say I hated working at the weekend?

I really did.

And that's probably the reason why I stopped working

in that particular profession.

I think so.

We are all back together and it is lovely outside.

I have to say the weather is rather well.

I suppose I want to say that it's sunny, but it isn't.

But it is rather nice outside. It it's very

I think the word I'm looking for is atmospheric.

It is atmospheric outside at the moment.

A little misty.

We had some rain earlier and I suppose

it is worthwhile mentioning the environment today because I suppose

a lot of people are talking about the environment this weekend.

Yesterday was Earth Day.

Did you know that?

Apparently yesterday we were all celebrating the Earth because it's pretty good, really,

when you think about the billions of years

it took to make this.

It's incredible, really.

So I think really every day should be Earth Day.

Every day we should be thinking about that.

And a lot of people this week

have been protesting, protecting the environment.

There are many people who feel strongly about the environment.

There are many people protesting. I suppose

these activists

have have one particular fear,

and that is the fact that we only have one planet.

I think that's what they say, isn't it?

They normally say, Mr.

Duncan, we only have one planet.

There is no spare planet.

We're not quite ready to go to Mars just yet.

So there is no planet B,

We don't have another planet.

So if we do destroy the earth, I suppose

what they are saying is we don't have an alternative.

There is no planet B, we only have this.

So there are people who are worried, concerned about what is happening in the world

as far as the environment is concerned.

Of course, this is an argument

that has been going on for many, many years.

If I said to you

way back in the

1960s, people were worried about the environment

and the way mankind was moving

and the direction we were all going in

then, then I suppose it's been around for at least 60 years.

So you might say that 50, 60 years ago

people were concerned about exactly the same things

the environment, war,

famine,

poverty.

So all of those things were issues way back in the past,

and they are still issues now.

I suppose in a way

it is good that we do have some people around who

who want to keep reminding us about these things.

However, it is a very difficult conversation to have with anyone.

When we talk about the environment, you want to protect the environment,

but also you want to keep moving forward, you want to keep progressing.

That is the whole point of of existence.

Animals in the wild.

Every day they try to survive another day, and that's what we're doing.

So you might say that many of the technological advances

that have happened over the past 150 years

have helped us all in many, many ways.

However, there are those who think we should start to pull back

on all of that development, or at least make changes

that can move us forward in a positive way.

But it is it is a big subject and not one

that I have any solutions for today.

So if you are expecting me to come up with any answers to this question, I don't know.

I really don't know.

And I suppose one of the big problems is there are still many countries around the world

waiting to to develop or to become more developed.

So as that happens, of course, there will be a demand

for energy, electricity, heat, gas.

So those things are not going to go away overnight.

And I think a lot of people still want to keep their old

fossil fuel powered cars as well.

We might talk about that later on, by the way, with Mr.

Steve.

I'm not that brave and I definitely know Mr.

Steve isn't.

But we have the hotel, we have the flights we are flying, and that is it.

I read about ancient sources of energy that generated electricity.

Literally out of thin air.

There are those who are, at the moment

investigating, doing research into all of that stuff.

There was something the other day that I read a very interesting article.

I don't know how real or how true it is, but apparently they are.

They are working on a way of transmitting electricity

without wires.

I know.

I know what you're thinking.

You're thinking, Mr. Duncan, that doesn't sound real.

So there are many ways, many, many, many things that people want to do

as far as developing energy, new forms of energy,

new ways of generating energy.

Maybe the source where the energy actually comes from.

So these days, we still rely heavily on gas and oil.

So all of that comes from beneath the ground.

Coal is another one.

We still have lots and lots of coal.

We have hundreds of thousands of tons, if not more

of coal under the ground.

Still here in the UK

and most of the coal mines have actually closed down over the years.

But there is a big push at the moment because of all of the problems with oil

and the energy crisis and all of the wars occurring around the world.

A lot of people are worried about

where the energy is going to come from in the future.

So we still have a lot of coal underground here in the UK,

and there are many people who would like to see

the coal mines reopen.

So that is one of the hot topics

that is being discussed at the moment as we as we have the Earth Week

and a lot of people thinking about the environment at the moment.

St George is the patron saint of England

and apparently he's also the patron

saint of many other countries as well.

An earthquake mean in English.

A big tremor.

Or just a soft one?

Or do you have another word for the soft one?

Earthquake is when the earth moves.

Maybe parts of the Earth collide.

Or maybe pressure is suddenly released

and it normally causes a lot of disruption

damage and loss of life, as we saw a couple of months ago.

And yes, it but here I will

be honest with you here we don't have earthquakes,

so I don't think we've ever had an earthquake.

However,

we do sometimes have tremors.

So we often describe the movement

of the earth in this country as tremor.

So it means that the earth is moving, but not very much, just a little bit from side to side,

although sometimes you can feel it, but normally

it doesn't cause any damage.

So that's the word we use.

We say tremor.

Tremor.

It is when the earth moves slightly,

nothing too serious, but we do have them here from time to time.

I remember one morning, a long time ago, way back in the 1980s,

we actually had a very strong earth

tremor and I was still living at home with my mum and I woke up in bed

and my bedroom was moving from side to side.

It was going like that and my bed was moving

and I was very aware that the bed was going from side to side.

It woke me up and I was a little bit afraid to be honest.

So that was quite a long time ago.

But since then we haven't had many Earth tremors.

So if you have a tremor,

it means you have movement movement, but nothing too serious.

So normally it is not as serious

as an earthquake, which is good, I suppose.

Francisco St George attacked

the dragon and cut off its head.

You are right. Yes. That is the famous myth.

The famous story.

Or maybe the famous legend said, because of course,

I don't want to break the news to you now, so please don't be too upset.

But dragons are not real.

They are mythical creatures.

Mr. Duncan, how could you do that?

There are people on the planet who believe in Father Christmas.

They believe that the Earth is flat.

They believe

in dragons.

So I do have to be careful.

I don't want to ruin anyone's, anyone's illusion of the world around them.

Honestly, SATURNO, are we sure that the energy

transition is good for the earth?

How much energy is needed to get the transition?

And that energy comes from fossils

and how many people will pay for it by losing their jobs?

Well, any change, anything that changes

on a large scale normally has an effect.

It's really hard to avoid that.

So I remember in the 1980s when computers

and machinery was becoming more,

well, I suppose I want to say clever, but it was becoming more automated.

So robots in the 1980s

started building cars and it still happens to this very day.

So a lot of car assembly is actually done by machines,

not by people.

So I suppose every time we make a leap forward,

every time we we advance, quite often

there is some sort of negative effect that occurs as well.

I think it is unavoidable.

It is unavoidable in any situation when you start to make changes

or when you make advances in certain things, you move forward.

I think it's always difficult to stop or to prevent

some sort of negative side effect from occurring.

I think so,

yes. Apparently there was intelligent one day

there was an earth tremor in Kiev way back in the 1970s.

It was a it was quite an event for my parents.

Well, we have them quite often here.

We have earth tremors, but we've never had earthquakes.

We've never had anything that's caused large amounts of damage.

that there was a lot of paranoia around some of it.

So quite often in the United States, they would have these these tests and practices.

Children in school would have

to hide under their desks, things like that.

And so there were there were lots of what we call air raids

where you have to hide yourself away just in case something bad happens.

So, yeah, so that's what we're having today.

You see Inaki sleeping rough means that you're basically sleeping on the street

because you haven't got a hotel room for whatever reason.

If you sleep rough, if you get round to somebody's house

and you just sleep on the settee, you could say that is sleeping rough.

Yeah.

But usually sleeping rough means outside.

Maybe on a park bench, maybe in a tent on the street, something like that.

You don't have a roof over your head. Yeah.

You're homeless. Homeless.

Being homeless.

Tramp.

I don't know why we sound so jolly about it, but it's an awful thing.

Well, where's the worst place you've ever slept?

I probably.

I wasn't.

Was the worst person I've ever slept.

It wasn't when we were young, but I'm just trying to think, you know, we.

My parents took us on a

trip to Spain, and we drove.

We went across the channel in

a Ferry, and Dad drove, and we drove halfway through France,

but we couldn't get there in the time Dad had allocated.

So we had to stay overnight at a hotel, but we didn't because they couldn't afford a hotel.

So we slept in the car. Of course.

On the edge of on the edge of some sort of

construction site.

And then we woke up the next morning to all these trucks all trundling around us.

Oh, my God.

Yeah, I know.

My sister always remembers that story. It's just a.

That's a horrific story, By the way.

We slept overnight in the car. Yes.

And it was supposed to be this lovely holiday, this lovely vacation.

It and it turned into a nightmare.

Well, of course, when you're a kid, it doesn't really didn't really bother me too much because you're young

and you don't think about those things.

But I imagine from them it was pretty horrific.

It doesn't sound like much fun.

most horrible hotel I've ever stopped in.

So it's quite interesting how many people get athlete's foot.

And I think even if you go walking a lot,

I think you can also get athlete's foot.

So it's just when the moisture builds up

between your toes or underneath your toes and then you get little infections, don't you?

Well, it's it's a specific fungal infection.

So you have to have contracted

the fungus onto your foot in the first place.

You can't just, you know, if you get a sore from walking, that's not athlete's foot.

You have to have picked it up from changing room.

Oh, law.

I mean, I used to go

the number of times I've caught athlete's foot

from going to the swimming baths.

And children get it a lot because it's it's

transmitted by a foot.

You can't see them.

The tiny little spools or fractions of the of the fungus.

And then you walk along and you pick it up.

And then if you get sweaty feet or a little break in the skin, this fungus will grow

and it will cause painful cracks that weep.

And it's very easy to get rid of, but it's annoying.

Yeah, usually between your little toe and the next toe to it.

So that's a good example there of athlete's foot.

If you get little cracks, painful cracks in your feet that don't

heal up, then you've probably got athlete's foot

and you need to apply some cream, which you can buy from the chemist.

You've got to come into contact with the fungus.

So, I mean, I used to in the end when I went to swimming

I would never put my feet down anywhere on the changing room floor.

As you walk on your hands.

Because I used to just pick it up very easily.

And it's just annoying because it takes like two weeks of rubbing cream in every day to get rid of it.

And then you can reinfect yourself because it gets inside your shoes and things like that.

And then on your towel you can pass it on to your partner.

It's very annoying

and just annoying is to be painful.

In some people it's not very good because there's another one you pick up

from changing room floors, varicose is horrible, sort of gross.

Something that's a fungus as well.
