So I always get quite often.

In fact, I get surveys on the Internet for me to answer

sometimes from a company that I've dealt with in the past.

Maybe a company that I've bought something from.

And they always write to me.

I was always bothered by people

asking questions in the street.

I know that surveys when you ask people questions and then they give you answers

at a certain group of people or a certain age group.

are very

good and useful, yes, but sometimes they can be very annoying as well,

especially when you're walking down the road and someone keeps bothering you.

They want to ask you some questions.

is a sensitive subject.

A subject that maybe some people don't want to talk about,

maybe a subject that some people find upsetting,

or maybe a subject that might make them feel

We are looking at the use of flags.

Oh, and the reason why I'm mentioning this is in a few days, you may have heard

we are having a big celebration here in the United Kingdom.

We are celebrating the queen the queen of England.

70 years she has been sitting on the throne.

And unfortunately, her bum has gone numb.

She can't feel a thing

So that's what we're doing.

And lots and lots of people will be putting up their flags of the United Kingdom.

A lot of people know this.

Of course, I'm sure you know all about this particular flag.

And there you can see lots of them.

Lots of those flags hanging up.

And now if you walk through London, apparently there are flags

everywhere of the United Kingdom.

So that is the United Kingdom.

Flag, red, white and blue.

And it is called the Union Flag.

Union Flag.

Of course, quite often it is called the Union Jack,

although you only call it that when you are in distress.

Apparently,

don't ask me why.

So this particular flag is a combination of more than one flag,

including Wales Scotland and also England as well.

So it is a combination. There it is.

It is a combination of different flags.

Some people have become rather angry and upset

because these flags are now hanging everywhere.

Or in many parts of the U.K.

and especially in London.

And some people have said that it is not a good thing.

Some people become very angry, very upset about flags.

So what about you?

So let's have a quick look at the word flag.

So when we say group, it can be a company.

It can be a group of people who are standing up for a certain cause.

Or it can be a flag

that represents a nation or country.

So that is the reason why we often see flags

in many different shapes and sizes and colours

and designs as a verb.

The word flag means to mark something or single

a certain thing out for easy recognition.

So you might flag something

because it's something that you want to see later, or maybe something you want

other people to see or recognise.

So the word flap flag

can be used as both a noun and a verb.

The thing that you wave

those things

off flags

That that particular word is a noun but is a verb.

The word flag means to mark something.

You are making a mark.

You are highlighting something because you want other people

to be able to see it.

Some view

national flags as

divisive or jingoistic.

Oh, jingoistic is a very interesting word.

Jingoism is,

I suppose you would call it patriotism.

A person who is a patriot, a person who loves their country

so much, maybe they display the flag

of their country in their window or outside their house.

In the United States, it is common

to see at least one flag

hanging up outside a person's house.

It is very common.

But some people view national flags as divisive and jingoistic,

which is a very interesting word, actually,

As I mentioned a few moments ago, we have the Queen's

Platinum Jubilee and the Queen's

Jubilee celebrations that are coming up in a few days from now

will involve the flying of the union flag

or the Union Jack.

And that is the flag that I showed earlier.

So flags are often seen

as a representation of a certain country They are symbolic.

They are used to show the name

or maybe the identity of a certain place.

There are some words that are often used

when we talk about flags, for example,

patriotism.

So patriotism is the feeling, the feeling of love

for your country, the feeling of

doing what your country asks of you to love your country.

You are you are a patriot.

patriotism or patriotism.

And this could also be described as allegiance or loyalty.

So a person who is a patriot is a person who also has allegiance

And I suppose the question I could ask you is,

do you think national flags are a good idea?

Are they a good thing? Is it good

to display your flag?

Maybe certain flags upset you.

Maybe there is a certain flag that you don't want to see for various reasons.

So I suppose when we talk about flags,

we are talking about national flags,

similar to the ones that you can see up here on the screen.

which of course, is a feature that I sometimes do.

I sometimes show the flags of the world because I like to do that.

then that is normally when the relationship starts

or countries that do not have resources

or internal wealth.

So some people think it's a good idea to do that

because it helps to define the differences or the gap between those nations

and other people don't

let alone for some monarchs.

Well, there are people who do not like

monarchy or to have a monarch or a leader

or a ruler of a country.

And it has happened

over the ages.

I'm sure you can think of at least one country

that has has removed its royal family

or the rulers or the ruling class.

I think I can think of at least one country straightaway.

So it does happen.

And there are people here in the UK who do not like the royal family.

They are not monarchists.

They do not like having a monarchy,

even though these days the royal family, the queen of England,

doesn't really have any actual power.

All of that power was removed a long time ago

when the Magna Carta was written.

So freedom was given to the people.

Before that point, there was no freedom and people were treated like cattle.

So I suppose that is the difference

Some people are royalists and some people are anti royalist.

They don't like the royal family

But one of the things about living in a free country

is you can express those opinions.

So those people who do not like the royal family

and they disagree with having the queen or king,

they have the freedom to express that opinion.

because there are actually quite a lot of words that are used

every day, words

that we use all the time that are actually

directly taken from other languages

I suppose a good example would be Cafe Cafe.

You go to a cafe, we also go to a cafe

and that comes directly from the French language cafe.

So we say cafe.

Even the pronunciation is the same cafe

in French they say cafe.

We say cafe.

I hope you get the idea.

Non English words used in English.

I'm going to go through some of the words.

This is what will take us to to to the end of today's live stream.

The first word. Oh, I like this one.

I like this word.

It's a nice word to say when it comes out of your mouth.

Incognito.

Incognito.

A person might go incognito.

And it comes from the Italian language,

and it means to be in disguise.

You are hiding your true identity.

You are going in disguise.

You are going undercover.

So you are not going to reveal your true identity.

You are going incognito.

You will not be recognised.

Sometimes famous people will do that.

They will go out and they will wear a disguise.

They will put something on their face.

Maybe they will wear a large hat or a pair of Sophia Loren glasses.

Who remembers Sophia Loren?

She always used to wear these huge

sunglasses They were huge, really, really big sunglasses.

And a lot of celebrities wear sunglasses

when they don't want to be recognised.

They don't want people to recognise their face.

They do not want to be bothered by their friends,

even though it is their friends that made them famous.

And sometimes this is a problem with celebrities.

They forget.

They forget how they got where they are

with all of their fame and fortune.

It's because of us, the fans

watching your movies and buying your your songs.

So sometimes I think celebrities do forget

that it is us, the common person

in the street that put them where they are.

I think it does happen sometimes

incognito to

go undercover, to go in disguise.

Kanye West.

Yes, I suppose Kanye West is a good example

of a person who goes out

in disguise as

incognito. Here's another one.

Oh, another one.

Beginning with the letter.

I, I like this one.

It also happens to be the name of a song by Marillion.

Incommunicado.

It sounds Spanish, doesn't it?

That's because it is incommunicado.

Incommunicado means unable to be reached

if a person is out of touch they are maybe travelling somewhere.

Maybe they are a very long way

from any internet connexion.

Or maybe they don't have a cell phone.

You can say that that person is incommunicado.

You cannot communicate with them.

They are incommunicado.

I like that one.

So maybe sometimes when you go on

holiday perhaps you don't want to be bothered by people.

Maybe you switch your phone off

and maybe you disconnect your computer

or turn off the Wi-Fi

or the Internet Connexion so you can't be disturbed.

You are incommunicado.

I like that one.

Here's another one.

If you are like me and you like drinking coffee,

I love coffee.

By the way, I really do like drinking coffee.

I have a cup of coffee every day.

It 11:00.

And because Mr.

I also make a cup of coffee for Mr.

before, a certain process, a certain way of doing something
