You see, a lot of people say, Mr.

I am.

I love the English language so much.

You might say that I would one day, maybe one day

I will marry the English language as soon as we are allowed to do it.

So it is another weekend together.

We have made it to August.

We often talk about August as being the peak of summer time.

A lot of people think that July is the peak of summer,

but I always think that August is the peak

the that the nicest part of the summer months.

So we are now in August and everything is looking lovely today.

It's a lovely, lovely day.

We had very hot weather a couple of weeks ago,

then we had cool weather.

Next week things are going to get a little hot again.

We have more hot weather coming our way even today.

Well, today it's around about 24 Celsius, which for many people is not very hot.

I know what you're going to say, Mr. Duncan.

You always complain about the weather, but

there are certain parts of the world where the temperature

goes much higher than the one that you have in the UK.

But the problem is at the moment we are having too much dry weather

in the south of England, so much

that they have started restricting

water use.

You cannot anymore.

You can no longer water

your plants, your flowers.

You cannot use a hosepipe in your garden to water your grass.

You are not allowed to do any of those things at the moment in the South of England.

However, here everything is still pretty normal.

Although if you look behind me, you can see at the moment because this is a live view

looking out of the window, you can see everything is looking quite dry.

It is very hot today.

And apparently next week it's going to get very hot,

even hotter than it was today.

We will see what happens anyway.

We are back and we've made it to the end of another week

and we are here today to talk all about English.

It really does feel as if summer is here,

to get cooler again.

At least the good news is next week we have lots of lovely

hot weather, very nice.

I can't think of any other reason why I might be happy next week,

but one reason for sure is that next week

it is going to be fine and sunny.

Day, by the way, we went for a meal yesterday

in much Wenlock as we often do on Saturday

and yesterday we sat at a different table.

And the reason for that

I might

talk about later on, but something a little bit annoying.

You know me, I get quite annoyed from time to time by people.

People can be quite annoying. Have you noticed.

Yeah. And it's I think you have.

So maybe I will talk about that later on.

But we did have a nice meal even though we, we could not sit outside

because someone

had taken all the tables, they'd actually moved them

so no one else could sit outside

in the garden, including us.

They wanted all of the tables for themselves to even move the tables

to a different part of the garden

at the side of this beautiful cafe that we go to every Saturday.

And they took the wall, all the tables, so we couldn't sit outside.

So instead

we sat at the worst table imaginable.

Can you imagine this situation?

You are waiting for your lovely, lovely meal.

And then next to you is the toilet door

right next to you.

Next to your shoulder is where people go to the toilet.

And the only problem is between where we were sitting

and the toilet, there was just a very thin piece of wall.

I think it was actually plasterboard between us and the toilet.

So you could hear everything

that was going on in the toilet

whilst you are trying to eat your food.

It wasn't a very nice experience.

Normally we like to sit outside, but some selfish people, very selfish.

They decide to grab all of the tables, they move them

so they could all have room to sit and enjoy themselves

and no one else could sit outside.

And we were a little bit annoyed about that, to be honest.

On Friday, I had to go to the dentist

for my usual check-up.

A little bit of cleaning,

a little bit of polishing on my teeth.

But when I arrived at the dentist, I said to the lady

who normally does my teeth, I said, Please today,

please do not use the ultrasonic scraper.

I hate it.

I don't know why it always makes my teeth hurt

and I feel extreme pain when she's doing it.

So I said to her, I said, Please, can we not use that?

Can instead, can we use the old fashioned

scrapers, the old hook?

I prefer that I don't know why,

but that

that new ultrasonic thing that they use, it makes a horrible noise as well.

I hate the sound of it, but when they press it onto your teeth,

it's as if every nerve in your mouth is is jumping through the top of your head.

It's not a very pleasant experience.

So I asked her very nicely, very kindly,

if instead of the ultrasonic scaler,

I think that's what it's called, could you please use the old fashioned

hooks, pieces of metal

that you put between the teeth and you scrape the teeth?

So I prefer that.

I know it sounds strange, but I do. I prefer it.

For some reason it's not as painful,

but I don't think she was very pleased

that I asked if she could use the old fashioned tools.

I don't think she was happy about that because I think she wanted to do it quickly.

But of course it takes a little bit longer

if you use the old fashioned scraper.

But I don't mind it.

I love it.

Well, I don't love it.

I don't I don't get any sexual pleasure from it,

but I do find it more comfortable.

eating some of the seeds and the nuts that I left for.

It is not lovely.

It's a little dull mouse.

We used to get lots of tiny animals in the garden,

but this year we haven't had so many.

To be honest, I was rather pleased to see that

little mouse saying hello the other night.

And there it is, looking very mischievous.

What is the definition

of being macho

or manly these days?

Because I have a theory that over the years,

the way in which we view masculinity

or being manly has changed quite often.

I think quite often there are trends that come along and they,

they define what masculinity actually is.

I suppose you could say the same thing about femininity, but we're not talking about that today.

We're talking about masculinity a little bit later on

with someone.

I'm not sure if I would describe Mr.

Steve as masculine, but I think yes, I think he is.

We had a lovely day yesterday.

We had a beautiful walk into town.

So I go out the door chatting with everybody, drive home,

get halfway home and realise I haven't got my phone.

So halfway home, Steve realises that he does

not have his bag with all of his music.

That wasn't so important that I learnt

and his mobile phone was in the bag as well.

But if he had kept my car keys on me

because I never like to leave them in case they get stolen.

So, so the story gets better because today Steve had to go

all the way to Wolverhampton

to get his bag and his very, very important

mobile phone, hour and 20 minutes round trip.

Ask me £10 and feel. Yeah, that's your fault.

I know, I know. It's my fault. Yes.

Don't complain.

Probably could have waited till tomorrow to go and pick it up because I've got we've got choir

practise tomorrow but I didn't want to risk it in case it went missing.

So there I go into this church, they're all in their finery.

See, I know what happens.

Because Steve loves being in a crowd of people.

It's a little bit like your mum. Your mum is the same.

You're Steve's mother loves to have lots of people around her and lots of attention.

you actually forgot to take your bag with you.

I left the bag in the other room because if you're eating, you don't want to bag around.

You know, I must pick that back up afterwards.

And I just drove home, which is unusual because I usually use the phone as my satnav.

that you've forgotten something like a bag, a phone or something, and then gone all the way home?

which is of course describing the actual situation.

So to do silly is to do something foolish.

They are similar, but it's normally silly, foolish things.

You do something like for example, I left my mobile home

phone in the venue and I drove home.

That's a bit foolish.

You're a bit of a fool if you did, silly as well.

But it's.

Yeah, if it's silly then it's normally

something that people would laugh at, isn't it?

You do something silly. Probably.

People grow.

They'd probably laugh.

They didn't laugh at this. No, I didn't.

If you do something funny, probably I'm not really fool.

It's just forgetful. You can use them interchangeably.

Normally, I would think if something silly, it makes people laugh.

You do something silly or foolish that makes people laugh or stupid.

Yes, but what I'm saying is that the word fool is not the same as silly.

Because fool is

the noun you're using is the noun.

So you are foolish.

A person who does something silly is doing something foolish.

Normally, if you call somebody a fool, it's a bit of an insult.

Well, you suggest thing thinking of low intelligence.

Oh, no, you could just say that they've done something that is a bit silly, a bit stupid.

No, the fool is the noun.

I'm talking about the grammar.

I never use this.

So a fool.

So you can't walk off without the cash while you can.

Because if that's the problem, if you if you're distracted, you can take your card

out the cash, but you can just walk off because you're thinking about something else.

I've been looking at images of what

masculinity is taken over the years.

Going back a hundred.

And I've noticed that masculinity or the

the ideal of the image of masculinity has changed.

It has changed over the years.

And that's because I think as people,

young people come along, that they're their concepts

are often different to the generation that is now fading away.

And I think that often happens.

But what is it nowadays is because I think

there are many film stars

or many models, male models who don't look to me

what you would

imagine a person who is manly or macho, what they would actually be.

And I think that's because it's changing. It always does.

I think it always has.

You look at Victorian photographs of men

and you wouldn't say that they look manly.

However, there are things that they wear clothing

and also of course, the big one, Steve, you know what I'm going to say?

Facial hair, facial hair,

how it goes and then comes back.

And lots of men during the Victorian era, if you ever look at photographs of men,

they will always have the biggest,

the largest moustache you've ever seen

in the UK that was very popular like this.

They almost go go out handlebar moustache.

They look like propellers off an aeroplane.

Yes. That

projected a kind of masculinity.

And you're right, I think a lot of film stars now.

I mean, when you when you go back to the 1970s, typical sort of macho guy

would have well, in the sixties, fifties and sixties it would have been somebody like John Wayne.

Yeah. Wouldn't it. In a sort of

in those kinds of films. Yes.

Or the ones I often think of are people like Cary Grant of it's

hard to actually appreciate what a big star Cary Grant was.

He was huge.

A massive, massive star.

But but maybe, maybe to some people he's his characteristic.

I always thought his characteristic was was not manly.

He was he was quite soft.

I wouldn't say he was, man.

No, but that's the strange thing.

However, the other day I was watching a clip

from a how Alfred Hitchcock movie.

I can't say Alfred Hitchcock for some reason.

I don't know why, but I was watching a clip from one of his most famous movies, North by Northwest.

Was it North by Northwest?

He's being chased by an aeroplane.

It is the most famous clip in movie history

where Cary Grant is being chased by an aeroplane.

And it's a great scene. Absolutely public.

Probably one of the best photographed

clips from a movie ever.

Do you know who was flying the plane?

Alfred Hitchcock.

No, it's a great one.

By the way, this is a great trivia question because everyone knows Cary

Grant was being chased by aeroplane.

But who was flying the aeroplane?

His wife?

No, he was actually the actor.

Martin Landau was the baddie.

Bad guy who was trying to get into space.

You've got to be a certain age to know who these actors are.

about having your body to be more all muscular.

I think it's also hair.

So a head of hair is now seen

as something that is that defines masculinity.

So it's very strange as films.

But if you look at people in everyday life, if you've got a shaved head

now that makes you sort of like a tough guy baddie.

Yeah, that I think that does can make you, you know,

uh, your favourite Clint Eastwood's Clint

Eastwood says, Christina, there is a film that I want to see

with Clint Eastwood, one of his recent films.

He's still making movies in his nineties.

I just think that's amazing.

The Mule, it's called Steve Is a Brain, apparently.

It's an amazing movie.

And Clint Eastwood, I think he directs the movie,

but also he's in it as well and he's in his nineties.

And I think that's amazing.

I love I love Clint Eastwood very much.

I love his movies.

But yes, he is kind of what you would think may be the 1970s.

Yes. Yeah.

Action heroes.

Charles Bronson, he was another another one.

Very macho, very masculine.

Also, once again, lots of hair and something very Christina, of course, is Humphrey Bogart.

Yeah, it's was he he was yeah.

He was a tough guy.

He wasn't a friend in the 1950s, I would say sixties.

Yeah.

Before it is probably as well.

But what's that famous film with him?

You know, Casablanca.

Casablanca. Yes.

But what I find interesting is I don't think now he would be able to get away with it

as being that sort of screen presence.

I think.

I think people want something younger now with more more hair.

Well well, that's the thing.

Back in the forties and fifties and even the sixties, the men

were always older and the

women were a lot younger when they it was that you had to have a celebrity.

The men were very much sort of in their thirties and forties,

and the women that they were dating were probably in their twenties.

Yeah, I think we've moved on a bit from that, which we've often wondered about that.

And I think it was probably just, you know, film directors trying to put an image across.

Yeah.

For middle aged men so that they could all get the the nice young girls.

Yes, but but but but even the even the women loved those men.

Robert Mitchum is another one.

His face is like it's like it's being carved out of granite.

It's amazing.

Russell Crowe.

Yeah, he's just classic gladiator.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a bit fat now.

There is almost like two people, macho men in films are usually, aren't they.

They usually I think we've lost that.

I think we've lost my trail though now, Steve, a bit I'm

on about what masculinity is generally, generally nowadays.

And I don't think masculinity now is necessarily

what we would imagine it to be 20 years ago.

I think now there is a there is a softness that's returned

to masculinity.

Well, I think women don't want men now who are going to potentially beat them up,

you know, because men, these macho men in the films

that and the Force 56 is even seventies. Okay?

They were quite violent, quite violent men.

And, you know, they didn't really treat their ladies particularly well.

Whereas now, of course, we've moved into this.

What's the phrase, metrosexual? Well, I man.

Well, it's beyond that where the man is now, we don't use that phrase anymore.

The sex is a sort of merging a bit on base. Yes.

Well, it's it's shades.

I always think of the spectrum now, gender

and I suppose femininity.

Masculinity used to be very defined

but now it's almost become a spectrum, which I think is quite interesting.

I know some people think it's an awful idea or concept,

but other people are really embracing it in various ways.

I'm not sure how I feel about it, to be honest, because I think there are certain people

who are trying to take advantage of that situation.

But I think these days there is more of a spectrum

when we look at masculinity

and femininity, there is much more of a spectrum.

So imagine it like I want to say a rainbow,

but you know what I mean, a spectrum of gender

and masculinity and femininity and gender fluidity, which is, you know.

Yes. Well, that means something different now.

Yeah. I mean, and you know.

Yeah, but we've we've now got to of course,

women's sports are being promoted a lot more women's football.

And that's traditionally a masculine game.

So then you can see that women are

exerting their sort of

not masculine is the wrong word, but there's sort of physicality. Yes.

So it's sort of.

Yeah, the women a lot of women are going one way and men are going the other and they're merging

somewhere in the middle.

And, you know, I can think of pictures of my father when he was younger.

You know, most.

Your father a lady? No.

Oh, I see. I wonder what you're going to say then.

But, you know, men in those days, they the phrase is men, men and women were women.

Yes. I remember women were just you know, when I was growing up,

women were there places in the home and the men went out to work.

They were doing coal mining and manual work.

And these defined roles weren't there for the genders.

That's it.

But now there isn't.

And I think because of that

you don't get these

stereotypically macho men, but you do meet them.

I mean, you know, you do meet some men, do them a guard, you know,

might beat me up.

Yes. I'm not saying that it exists, but that's the thing.

I'm not saying they don't exist.

They are tough guys, tough men.

But I think there is more of a spectrum now than there used to be.

That's the point I'm trying to make.

You could be a soft man who might not be tough.

And maybe years ago, people would assume things about them.

But nowadays, of course, I think there is more of a spectrum of that of that,

that what is expected of of a man or what is expected of a woman.

I think it's an interesting subject, but but of course, there are a lot of people who

who've hijacked this particular subject and tried to turn it into something else.

Of course.

I mean, I think we're the the the epitome of masculinity.

Well, don't you think so, viewers? Well, I.

I think I don't think we're feminine by any means.

In fact, a lot of people don't think anything of you, do they?

They don't think you're they think you are manly or they think you are,

for want of a better word, heterosexual. Yes.

But the people have said this to you. They have.

But they wouldn't they would never describe me as manly.

I've never been you know, I'm not a sort of the other phrase,

as my father used to use on the growing up.

He's a man's man.

Okay? A man's man. Well, that's you.

That's that's it's got a different meaning these days.

If there is anyone who is a man's man, it's Mr.

Steve, a man's man that used to denote

somebody who was pure heterosexual.

The only you like the company of other men would play football.

Okay.

And talk about sports all day and, you know, all that sort of thing.

A man's man, somebody you could go down the pub with and have a drink, talk about the birds

and you know, and I don't mean, you know, somebody.

Yeah somebody who was not in any stretch of

the imagination would be pure heterosexual,

tough guy man, talking about manly things and man's man.

I think, I think the playing field we often talk about very interesting

So where things are seen as equal.

But I to be honest with you, I think a lot of these things that we're seeing now

probably should have happened maybe 20 years ago, but they're happening now.

But it's all happening suddenly.

And I think there are a lot of people, older generation, Steve, not us,

because we're not old, but older generations who are still not ready for it.

So they're not ready for it now.

They want the certainty of seeing a man doing one role are women doing doing another.

Duncan, because of equality.

That's a name and laws.

You know, there actually are laws to do with equality

in many countries of the world, certainly in this country. And

so whereas before, men would do certain jobs

and women would do certain jobs, that's because of equality.

That's now men can do jobs that women do.

There are lots of men and nurses and lots of we've discussed this before.

Lots of women do

what would be considered manly jobs,

you know, maybe in construction and things like that.

Yeah, things that would normally be.

I don't necessarily think women are going down the mines.

Well, no one is mine.

I said a bit of that going on.

But because of that, we're able to accept instead of being forced into stereotypes,

you've got to behave this way because that's what society

says you've got to do to be accepted.

You can now, you know, men can express their feminine

side, which is always there was always there.

It was just suppressed because of the pressure of society.

And women can express their masculinity, which is not always there,

but they weren't able to do it because they'd been frowned upon by society.

A woman working on a building site, you wouldn't be allowed to do it.

So this is interesting, Steve.

You can see now I've got I've got the caption on the screen and there

that that is actually Tarzan.

Yeah. So that yeah.

As depicted

in the 1920 movie The Revenge of Tarzan.

Now what I find interesting of about this is I don't think

I think this is particularly manly,

but maybe back then it was

it looks almost slightly comical to me.

It looks almost amusing.

It looks almost as if someone is making fun

of that particular type of movie.

But in fact, that was seriously done.

That's how a man looked.

Well, I mean, the ludicrous thing about that, when you look at it now, it's obviously

just an American man with with with a sort of a leopard skin on wear,

whereas if it was, you know, Tarzan was supposed to be abandoned by his parents

and grew up in the wild and he just had a long straggly hair and a beard.

Wouldn't he wouldn't be cutting his hair and shaving.

Yeah.

So that's what makes that look ludicrous?

So what is macho?

The definition of what is manly things can be manly.

Sport, jobs, the appearance,

of course, men as we found out

last week, we went to a wedding last week

and lots of the young men had beards.

That's the fashion. Now it's back.

So everyone they all had and it looked what was funny.

Steve They all had literally the identical beard.

Yeah, exactly the same.

It looked as if they were all wearing fake beards,

but they were identical.

And I thought that was really funny. Yes.

It's all about a week's a week's amount of stubble, isn't it?

It's not a proper beard.

It's sort of more like a week's growth of stubble

or maybe a bit more, maybe two weeks.

But I think what men do now, they groom,

they grew, they do their beards much more.

So men now spend.

I think, as much time as women

in the bathroom in the morning making themselves look lovely.

They trim their beard well, they make sure everything is lovely.

They make sure their eyebrows are not too long.

They they get the the hair out of that is they they make themselves look lovely.

See, I'm amazed.

I'm amazed that the fashion for men having beards has lasted

as long as it has because it's lasted a number of years now,

because, I mean, I've grown a beard in the past.

It's much more maintenance than just having a shave,

having a shave every takes 3 minutes. Yes.

But if you've got a beard, you've got to constantly be trimming it.

And oh, it's a pain in the neck. It is a lot of work.

And they're itchy and leave. Have you seen the advert?

There was a commercial on YouTube for for a device

that can now cut the hair down there.

Well, yeah, I saw it last night.

You can trim.

It's a special device designed for men

so they can shave everything down there.

It's very serious. It's just everything now.

You can use anything for that, can't you?

And this is in men's grooming now, you know, with the women

in the bedroom, they don't want you know, they want things nicely trimmed.

Yes, they want they want the hair to be be nice and well.

Well, they want everything to be smooth. And who wouldn't.

I mean, have you ever kissed a man with a beard, Mr.

movies, maybe see advertisements for the role of

the man has certainly changed over the past, I would say the past ten years.

So the man quite often takes a more passive role

and the woman might be a little bit more, more dominant, assertive in the relationship.

I find I find those things interesting. You say? Yes.

I mean, yes.

I mean, my mother often says that, you know, she grew up in the thirties and forties.

And as she said then, women's roles

were very, very defined in those days.

And it was basically you

you just got married and had babies and that was it.

And there was no chance for

a woman, for example.

Very little chance for a woman to go to university. Yeah.

I mean, my my mother grew up.

She tells me the story of my grandmother, who was very clever, very clever

woman, and could have gone to university.

But she didn't go her father wouldn't let it go.

He said, no, your brother can go, but you can't go.

You've got to get married and have children.

But then again, that's that's a different time.

Yeah, well, that's a different attitude.

It's very interesting.

So I find these things really fascinating.

And of course, these days having a having a child,

if you want to have a child, then

I know I'm on thin ice here.

Then that would be the woman's role.

Don't say anything, please.

Just just hold your thoughts. Everyone out there.

I know what I'm doing.

I know I'm putting my head above the parapet and all the bullets will be flying by in a moment.

But yeah, but I think, yes, generally speaking, the woman's role.

Now, if you think about having a child or starting a family,

the woman will be involved

as well of course, certainly

in this country and in a lot of Western countries

now, women are working, are going out to work.

You see, when when I grew up, my mother didn't work,

so we were able to look after ourselves. Yes.

Whereas now women are going to work.

So the roles have to be shared, particularly if you're having children,

then if you're both working, then you have to share that role.

And I know that, you know, men at work

that aren't that I know of

children that, you know, they take the children to school.

They they do all sorts of things for the children.

When I grew up, my father didn't have virtually nothing.

Mum did everything, you know,

she fathers got up in the morning, did everything.

Whereas now I don't think in a in a, in a sort of modern

relationship, I think that women walk out and have the man didn't do anything.

That's why you can you can have you can have house just house husbands. Yes.

So the husband is actually at home and the wife is going to work.

I don't think there's anything wrong with any of those things.

I think these are things that have been coming over the past 20 years

since the start of the new millennium.

I think many things have changed anyway, generally

speaking in society and I always think it's a fascinating thing.

However, there are those who who always want to create

division in these situations

when in fact, from my point of view, Steve, it's happened.

It's always been the case, hasn't it?

It's always happened at some point with roles of men and women,

or maybe the way gender or sexuality is viewed.

It's always been changing.

It's always been altering in some way, particularly since the sixties.

Yes Yes. The liberation.

Well, Magdalena says that she likes a bald man with a beard.

Which is a popular look now.

So we're halfway there it's a very popular look at lots of people

at work, men who are bald, grow beards.

And I but I personally don't like look,

but yeah, I think, in fact, I've noticed, Mr.

Duncan, that if you're a bald man with a beard

at work now, you get promoted.

Oh, okay.

Some for some reason that look get you to be promoted.

Interesting because.

Yeah, all the people with bald heads and beards.

All the men.

The men I haven't seen many women with bald heads and beards.

They're all getting promoted into the top jobs.

And I think it's because of the look.

So, you know, very interesting.

Yes. We'll move on to another subject because we have have a little bit of English

to look at, some phrases connected to asking a person

to stop doing something, maybe something that is annoying,

maybe something that makes you feel slightly angry,

perhaps that sort of thing.

We always say something quickly.

The most important thing is, is who we are inside. Yes.

And that's what modern societies are, is allowing us to become who we actually are. Yes.

And instead of having to fit into a stereotype imposed upon us by society, yes.

We are now free to express ourselves.

And that's why I think probably nothing's really changed.

It's just that we can now express ourselves.

We were always these people.

Yeah, but we weren't able to express that because of the constraints of society.

And of course, I suppose modern technology, social media allows us to express these feelings

more openly, whereas in the past you couldn't because

you didn't have the ability to do it.

There was no Facebook, no Twitter, no social media at all.

So everyone had to keep all of those things to themselves. Yes.

I've never seen I can't remember the last time

I saw anyone with a metal detector.

So I wonder this is my theory, Steve.

I think maybe, perhaps underneath the field in much Wenlock

Maybe there lots of buried treasure and people now are starting to look for it.

But I can't remember the last time I saw anyone do any metal detecting.

I've never seen anyone do it and ever in the eight years

we've been here and I don't know what the problem would be anyway.

It used to be very popular though.

I remember growing up in the seventies and early eighties

and everyone had one of those little devices that you

or you're looking for something

under the ground made of metal, hopefully buried treasure.

But but I don't people doing this anymore ever.

I think they still do on beaches. Yes.

But maybe maybe people are digging up

the the field heavy this gaskell

the the common ground where people walk their dogs and things like that.

Maybe there's a problem with people digging up the ground nuts,

but can't say I've ever seen anybody do it.

It's sort of hallowed ground. It's not.

that there's something buried under there because you only go metal detecting,

you only use one of these things if you think there is something buried underneath the ground.

Now, over the years, there have been many stories

not very far away from here where people have done this

and they found priceless objects.

Ancient artefacts.

And some of these things are so valuable that they're virtually priceless.

But the strange thing is and this is

this is something that you're going to know all about, Steve, if you go into someone's property

and you find something under the ground that's valuable, who

does it belong to?

Well, yes, I think, you know,

by law, by

decree or by law, I think all, all the area

of the city of England is actually, in theory, owned by the queen, am I not?

Right. So I'm not sure.

I'm not sure about that.

I think I think does actually own it, although I think she has rights, certain rights.

But in practise, of course, that wouldn't happen.

I think what's happened like as you say in Staffordshire, I think

they've had to sort of give it up,

give the Treasurer up or they might have got some kind of reward.

But if you I think if you find it on your own ground probably okay.

But if you're find if you're going into a farmer's field.

Yeah, I think I don't know yet.

You have to probably get to the courts.

But that's where that's where most of these things found on farmers fields.

But I just find that whole thing fascinating.

But you don't see many people doing it.

And as Steve said, one of the places where you still see doing this

with their little bib metal detector is probably on the beach.

But I'm fascinated to find out that there are people here

in much Wenlock doing it.

They probably think that there's something on that

that Gaskell Field is like, yes, as I said, hallowed ground.

Well, it used to be known as windmill field. Right.

And in the early days of the Olympics, when the Olympic Games were held here,

in the early days that the hill where the windmill is

was actually made made into a ampitheater,

where people would just sit and view

all of the games, the Olympic Games, the very early

Olympic Games were going back to the 1800s.

So a long time ago when I think

I think the windmill was still working, then it doesn't work.

It hasn't worked for a long time.

But I think maybe there's some connexion now.

You see from the past.

So I'm always, always thinking I'm always thinking that we should get a metal detector.

And so we we might find some buried treasure.

They Might do.

I'll tell you what, I'm more interested in what the other side is saying about the dog control water.

you're not supposed to

take your dogs on to that ground and just let them roam free, but

then they let it happen.

that are in all of our mobile phones and electronics.

So if China is watching because we love our electronics.

Well, that's why that's why countries like America now are putting lots of resources

into developing their own factories again to to make their own microchips.

Because we've all realised haven't we, recently the pandemic and then.

So now if anyone has just dropped their cup on the floor

You're talking about me, for goodness sake.

Is often a friend of a sake, which is the same thing.

There is nothing worse

than watching a TV show or movie, and the person next to you keeps keeps asking questions.

Who is that guy?

Well, who's that? Well, I thought he was the bad guy.

Well, who's this? Who's this person?

Well, who's that? I don't know.

Well, is.

Is she his sister I, I don't know what's happening anymore in this movie.

And you go, oh, please, just, just cut it out.

Maybe somebody is snoring in bed.

Your partner says, Valentine.

Valentine, God laugh,

is suggesting that maybe

their partner or somebody they know is snoring and it can be devastating.

That can lead to you having consistently

bad night's sleep because your partner is snoring.

In fact, what a lot of couples do is that they end up

sleeping in separate rooms

to escape the snoring.

Because if you don't get your proper sleep, then you're going to feel tired the next day.

And if you keep doing that night after night, month after month,

you will become probably physically mentally ill. Yes.

As a result of that, deprive sleep now through your partner

snoring and that's very so yeah.

And some things cut it out.

Some things are not is easy to stop.

But could you say that would that be an appropriate phrase?

No, probably not the middle of the night.

I think there might be some more that are more suitable coming up,

I must kick the habit.

So this is another interesting use of words.

So in this particular sentence, to kick is to force oneself to stop doing something,

you kick the habit so you are stopping

your own bad behaviour,

maybe something that you're doing that you wish you didn't do.

You must kick the habit.

So in this sense, kick is to push away.

You want that thing to go, you have to kick the habit.

You need to stop doing it.

You're getting older.

That happens in your kicking it kicking you getting rid of it with your big boot.

It was burnt. Now I hadn't switched the slow cooker on

so so I've switched it on super high.

So the chilli con carne that we're supposed to be

having tonight is still cold.

I'm hoping it's warmed up. Has warmed up in the last hour.

We might be having our meal at around about midnight.

And what are we using?

A slow cooker, Mr. Duncan? Steve, wrong with you.

Why do you keep forgetting things?

It's my age.

At your age, just to cut it out.

Some stuff annoying me. This isn't.

Doesn't take much doing in order to save electricity because of the rising cost.
