Learning English - I HATE WEARING GLASSES - English listening lesson

Do you like wearing glasses? Does it bother you, the fact that you have to put chunks

of glass on the front of your face every day, held in place by awkward spindly wiry bits

of plastic? Does it bother you? because it really does bother me. Sometimes I hate it

in the morning when I wake up and the first thing I realise is that I can't see a thing.

So I have to grasp and grab and fumble for my glasses at the side of the bed. I hate

doing that every single morning, in fact that is the only part of wearing glasses that I

hate, but I'm just wondering whether you wear glasses. Do you have glasses? Must you wear

glasses to see? Some people can see very far away and some people can only see very near.

I happen to be short-sighted that means that I can't see far away, I can only see things

that are very close to me, so I am short-sighted and my eyesight is actually quite bad. To

be honest so my degree of short-sightedness is very very bad. My lenses, the lenses in

my glasses are over a thousand degrees in each eye, which means that my my short sightedness

is really really bad. So what do you think? Do you wear glasses? Now I've in the past

thought about having cosmetic surgery, having laser surgery on my eyes to correct my eyesight,

but I've always lost my nerve. The other thing that I thought of doing in fact I did try

was to have contact lenses. So you can pop contact lenses into your eyes and then you

can see without having to put glasses on. Of course I am a little bit squeamish when

it comes to that sort of thing so I'm not a big fan of putting my finger into my eyeball,

that's the reason why I don't wear contact lenses because I am very afraid. I feel very

squeamish. I love that word squeamish. If you feel squeamish it means you feel afraid

of a certain thing you feel scared and anxious about doing something you feel afraid it makes

you feel unwell or even sick. You feel very very afraid. You are squeamish. So that's

the question today. Do you wear glasses? Do you enjoy wearing glasses? And if you had

the chance to change it, would you get rid of your glasses in favour of say contact lenses

or maybe laser surgery?
