We are actually live at 2:08 o'clock

on Sunday, September the 25th,

25th October is coming.

And I have to say, I always get excited when October approaches,

because October means only one thing.

We are once again celebrating the anniversary of this,

this everything that you're watching now, all of this started

way back in 2006.

There are some people who were not born

at the start of my life, English lessons

and also my recorded English lessons.

And I suppose the birth of my YouTube channel

so long ago, 2006.

When people talk about the early 2000s,

it seems such a long time ago now, doesn't it?

A few days ago we were talking about September 11th,

and it is amazing to think it was so long

ago, 20, 21 years.

It doesn't seem possible, is it?

21 years ago,

once again, proving that time really does fly.

It is actually going by faster than you realise.

So my name is Duncan. I talk about English.

I am an English addict and I have a feeling

a very exhausting few days.

experience of the past few days.

Of course, I suppose I should also mention what's been happening here.

Well, last weekend, of course, a lot of people were building up

to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth,

the second the queen of England, who sadly passed away.

And a lot of people were watching, apparently,

I don't know if this is official,

but apparently over 5 billion people

were watching the funeral

of the Queen of England last week.

Can you believe it?

5 billion.

So that is around maybe 60.

61% of the world's population

were watching the Queen's funeral.

That doesn't seem possible.

Visit.

So it just shows how many people these days are

watching their TVs or maybe their computers or their mobile devices

because that is the thing that allows us all

to keep in touch and to watch things

that in the past might have been almost impossible to do.

So that is another wonderful thing about technology.

A lot of people criticise technology.

They say it is evil and wicked,

but it isn't because you can also experience

nice things as well on the Internet.

So I think a lot of people

were watching last week

when I say last week, it was only last Monday, although it seems

it seems a very long time ago now, do you think?

for everyone here, but especially us.

And when I say us, I mean Mr. Steve and myself.

As you know, we have a little bit of a drama, sadness, news.

But what we are trying to do,

and I know I'm probably not expressing myself very well

because we are still in a little bit of shock

at the moment because of the sad passing of Mr.

Steve's mother.

But we are trying to deal with it.

I have to say, and I'm going to be honest with you,

neither of us

were expecting to be affected

so much by that particular event.

So I have to say, we are still finding it very hard to deal with, to cope with.

If I was honest with you, we have moments

where I suppose we suddenly realise what is actually happened.

The feeling becomes very strong

and it's very hard to keep your emotions locked away.

Apparently they are going to go right.

It's funny how the word right can be used in different way.

So if you are going right, it means you are turning in a certain direction.

But of course, when we are talking about political views or opinions,

we often see a right as a direction

of thought or opinion.

So it would appear that in Italy

they are about to go right

with their political leaders

and the way in which the country is run.

And of course, let's not forget also we have Brazil as well.

They are entering towards their main elections as well.

Did you watch the queen's funeral?

Did you see it?

Mr. Steve wanted to watch all of it

and it did go on for a very long time.

So Steve was was very insistent.

He really did want to watch all of it.

So we sat for over 7 hours

watching the Queen's funeral because, of course, there were

there were two parts of the actual ceremony and service.

So you had one part of it which was in London,

and then they went off to another part called Windsor,

where another service was held as well.

So it did take a very long time

for it to take place, and a lot of people were watching.

I still can't believe 5 billion people.

Apparently it was the most watched, the most viewed thing ever

in the history of everything

besides my live stream, of course.

I like to think that the whole world is watching this.

Even though my YouTube analytics

say otherwise, no, it doesn't look like

everyone in the world is watching me, unfortunately.

Because nowadays we have so much technology around,

We did sit for a long time.

Well, well, well. We didn't watch the Queen.

We watched the actual service and of course, now we have a king.

It doesn't feel any different.

A lot of people have asked me through the messages and the comments, Mr.

Duncan, what do you think about the king?

Well, I have to be honest with you.

Nothing feels different.

Everything feels the same.

If I was honest with you, everything seems exactly the way it was before.

So that is what is happening. Yes.

I had to cast my vote.

When you make your choice

during an election, you make a choice somehow.

Maybe you are choosing a new political party to run your country.

You make your choice depending on what your political views are.

So you normally choose a government or a person.

If you are electing one person, then you choose the person

whose opinions or ideals match yours.

To cast your vote.

I continue missing my parents in spite of the fact that they passed away many years ago.

But they are everyday present in my life and in my heart.

I think so.

Well, this is one of the things about losing someone.

I think one of the hardest parts in life

for one of the hardest things in life is losing someone close to you.

And I suppose most people would agree that your parents

are the closest thing you have.

So losing them is is a big thing.

I think so.

And I think that's what we're feeling here.

So Mr. Steve and myself, because Mr.

Steve's mother sadly died a few days ago,

and I think we are still recovering from the shock.

To be honest, it is very hard to deal with.

I will be honest with you.

I've never experienced anything like this in my life.

Here is something that cheered me up a few days ago.

And let's be honest.

Not only myself, but all of us.

I think we all need a little bit of cheering up for various reasons.

So here is something that I saw

out of my bathroom window the other day.

Isn't it amazing the sorts of things you see?

Look at that.

So outside my window

and I don't know how I didn't notice this before,

but there is actually a nest of pigeons.

And if you look closely, you can see there is an adult pigeon.

But also there are two chicks as well.

Two baby pigeons.

And they are all sitting in a nest,

which is outside my bathroom window.

So I was there cleaning my teeth

and I suddenly noticed that there was a nest with birds.

And I've never seen a pigeon nest before.

So I felt quite lucky that I was able to actually see this,

this natural event taking place right outside my window.

Very strange.

Very strange feeling, actually seeing it happen.

And then about two days ago,

the pigeons suddenly disappeared.

So I would imagine that the babies left the nest,

even though they don't look big enough.

But apparently they can grow very quickly.

So that's one of the reasons why you never see

baby pigeons or chicks

flying around because, well,

they normally wait in the nest until they are fully grown.

So that's the reason why. Isn't that amazing?

And you can see the mother is cleaning,

preening, the chick.

Isn't that amazing?

I've never seen that before ever in my life.

So it is a rather strange experience

to see an actual nest with young

pigeons being looked after by their mother.

Isn't that great?

I love that

English addict on a Sunday.

We are looking at a couple of subjects today.

We also have a little wildlife to look at in a few moments.

Monday we were on the beach

and we are hoping to actually get away

and travel somewhere over the next maybe two or three weeks.

We will see what happens because between you and me, we really do

need a holiday.

Several times in my own special way.

As I mentioned a few moments ago.

We really do need.

a holiday.

We've got to have one, Steve.

We keep telling ourselves this.

And I think one of the reasons why we don't have a holiday

is because sometimes I think we're just too lazy to do it.

However, we have been, we have been busy over

the last few days to various reasons.

We are going

to have a holiday.

We've got we've got to get in the car.

We've got to get somewhere.

We've got to be somewhere else

and maybe go to the beach

and build some sand castles like we did in that video that you just watched.

So we've got to have we?

Absolutely, we will, because we're still thinking about planning our big

meet up in Paris at some point.

But that's next year. That's probably next year.

But yes, we haven't actually

been away on a proper holiday for.

We've been away for sort of a days and. Yes, like that.

But an actual holiday where you're going away somewhere different and you are actually relaxing.

You're having you're having time to to just

relax everything, your body and your mind.

The last time we went away was I think it was June 2009, 18.

So even that wasn't really a holiday.

That's it.

It was a work event.

So we need to take a break.

We've got to we're not sure ten years before

we went to last go away on holiday that we booked

just for ourselves on holiday, say abroad somewhere a long time ago.

It's got to be ten years.

I'm not sure if it's ten years. Many of us go to Turkey.

That was the last proper holiday we had.

That must have been, I think that was 2012 or 2011 ago.

Ten years? Yes.

I mean, we've had sort of two or three night breaks in the UK.

Yes, everyone has a short break, but

there is nothing better

than actually having a proper break away from everything.

Not that we hate where we are,

but I think you do need to have a change of scenery.

So when you go away on holiday, we often describe it

as having a change of scenery.

You're looking at something different.

You are experiencing a different environment for a few days.

So we're thinking of maybe going to the coast.

We'll see what the weather's like because of course taking a holiday in the UK

as we're approaching October

is going to be a big risk. Yes.

I mean, if we do get, say, a week of forecasted

good weather, then we could we could good.

We could look at going to the south coast.

I'd like to go to Devon and Cornwall.

Yeah, I think we've probably missed that opportunity.

I think going south is also better because you're still near the warmer

the warmer weather or the heat is further south

because next week, apparently next week, Steve,

it looks as if it's going to get pretty.

Here it is. So, yeah.

And we need to get some some oil because our heating here

is powered by oil, not gas.

How much is it now?

Well, I you see, I've been monitoring the price of oil very carefully,

very carefully in time, perfectly to get the lowest price.

As we know, gas has been going up tremendously in price.

Yes, but we don't have gas here because we're not on the gas main.

We're in the countryside.

So it's oil for us now.

As we know, the price of oil has gone up, but it's come down

quite a lot over the last few months.

And that's it's not it's still more expensive than last year,

but not anywhere near as expensive as gas.

So we need to buy some oil needs, buy because we're very low in the tank.

And if we get a spell of cold weather, it's probably going to be weeks,

ten days before they can deliver anyway. So it's coming.

The price is coming down.

So I'm you know, I'm reluctant to buy it yet until it's really at a price.

I feel as though I can buy it at and be,

you know, you don't want to buy it this week and then in two weeks time, it's gone down a lot.

Well, moving on the other hand, if you happen to be freezing cold, either. No.

And also you don't want to wait another 24 hours.

And it certainly goes up because you know how volatile things are at the moment.

Look at the pound, volatile.

There's a good word.

Yes, look at the pound. Look at the pound.

The pound used to be worth more

and now it's worth very little.

It's almost equal to the dollar, the American dollar.

That hasn't happened.

Well well, I.

I don't remember it ever happened.

Apparently, it's never happened.

Yes. And it's losing value compared to the euro as well.

And our chancellor of the exchequer,

the man in charge of all the finances, whose name I still can't pronounce, we can't pronounce it

classy.

Something

has announced all these tax cuts

in the UK to try and boost the economy,

but it has made the markets very nervous because they don't believe it's going to work.

So the pound he announced all these tax cuts on Friday and the pound dropped even further.

So confidence in the UK economy is very low.

Yes, I know everything is a bit crap right now and we've noticed also

that the prices are starting to go up.

Bread, it's amazing.

Bread has gone up by a few pence. So already.

So everything is slowly becoming more and more expensive.

But our pound, the British pound,

it used to be one of the strongest currencies in the world.

You could travel anywhere and live like a king.

But. But now not.

It's not quite as easy as that, is it?

No, I don't know what that's going to mean when we. Yes.

When we go on holiday abroad, it's going mean that we get less money. Yes.

For whatever the local currency is. Yes.

We used to have a lovely accent.

Well, the euro, if you think the pound is bad,

the euro is just sinking.

But yes, but the pound is sinking compared to the euro.

So that shows how bad the pound is. Yes.

So you can see the money, the British money

is is becoming quite,

I want to say, worthless, a token of living.

Talking of living like a king. Yes.

Somebody made a comment about the queen's funeral.

Oh, okay. Yes.

Yes, we did.

I heard you saying, Mr. Duncan, I was actually listening.

Oh, my goodness.

I came on today instead of rushing into the garden and quietly coming down here.

Good that

we did fact watch.

I did watch seven and a half hours of it.

And I was transfixed.

Yes, transfixed at the spectacle.

Transfixed.

It means you can't take your eyes off something.

It's so incredible to look at.

I found it quite incredible.

It was a bit long, but it was a bit long.

In fact, a lot of people have commented how long it was.

In fact, it's rumoured that the king knew

King is going to, you know,

change all that in the future

so that when he dies, it won't be anywhere near as long.

Well, the thing here the thing about here is

we were also having the many, many days of people

going through Westminster Hall as well,

which itself has become a little bit controversial.

There are two people very well known here.

I'm going to say that you've never heard of them,

but they are big celebrities here.

And apparently they jumped into the queue.

They jumped ahead of all those common

people like like us who had to queue.

We weren't there, by the way.

We didn't go down to London, but many people did.

And they had to wait for many, many hours to to view the queen lying in state.

But apparently a couple of celebrities, they jumped the queue, they pushed ahead.

And now it's it's a huge thing.

In fact, it's the only thing that people are talking about now in relation to the queen,

to television presenters who supposedly jump the queue.

Yes. Whereas some people like David Beckham apparently stood in the queue for 12 hours.

He did not, which I actually don't believe.

We don't believe it now.

We're very sceptical of these stories because I don't believe for a second

that there were people, just average people queuing.

And in the middle of all those average people was David Beckham.

I don't believe it's. Yes, for 12 hours.

I don't believe that.

I don't think that happened. I'm sorry.

I don't believe it says in 2008, the pound was the same value as the euro.

And Lewis remembers because he went to London that year.

So, yes, it has happened before, but not it's never been equal with the dollar.

No, but the dollar's very, very strong at the moment.

It's been very it's been getting stronger and stronger all year. Yes.

Because they're putting interest rates up.

So what is now happening is if we travel abroad,

the our pound doesn't get much of anything.

It's in fact, in some cases, it gets very little.

We're going to have to go to somewhere like Turkey where who's whose

the value of their currency has dropped dramatically.

If we're going to get, you know, a lot of money to spend.

Yeah.

Somebody asked an interesting question or made an interesting comment earlier.

William Williams said,

talking of

the queen thought that the queen was

only only reigned in the UK,

was only the Queen in the UK.

But well just you know, if people don't know this, some people might not know

the Queen and now of course

the king is head of state in not just the UK but the whole of the Commonwealth countries

of which there are around 56 oh

colonies.

But what other x colonies were when,

you know, Britain had an empire, a lot of them decided to stay in

what's this commonwealth of countries which are 56 and to

about and a half billion people.

So it's a sort of a loose sort of connexion of countries

and the head of state in those countries is still the queen.

So the queen and now the king is not the head of just state in the UK,

but also of the whole 56 Commonwealth countries,

including Australia, Australia at the moment they want to kick

the English or British monarchy out, India as well.

India, well, India have already done that.

Well, I know that they're still part of the Commonwealth.

Part of the Commonwealth, yes.

Yeah.

See, that one's always a bit confusing for me because we were kicked out of India, but we are still

they are still part of the Commonwealth, which I find quite interesting.

But you have countries like there is another one, isn't it, one of the Caribbean countries

I want to say I'm sure you think a lot

are still I think Jamaica is still in the Commonwealth

that thinking of coming out, which of course a lot of countries now

are talking

about now the queen is gone because maybe they didn't want to come out of the Commonwealth

of countries because of out of respect for the Queen.

But now they might come out because we've got a king.

So they're seeing an opportunity.

Yeah.

Whilst there is this strange transition

between the Queen and king

that then I think a lot of people are now taking their chances

and finding the opportunity to maybe make a few changes.

Yes, here and there.

But interestingly enough, the king,

our new king, is supposedly going to make radical changes to the monarchy.

He's very keen on downsizing everything. Yes.

And apparently where the queen used to we used to live in Balmoral in Scotland.

Apparently, he's going to sell the offer something and turn into a public.

Apparently, I

find that very hard to believe.

Apparently that anyway.

And we won't go into that.

But actually there are places, a lot of royal palaces you can visit.

Anyway, I'm always amazed that you can actually visit Windsor Castle.

Yes. So they open it to the public and quite often

or when she was alive, the Queen would often stay there.

She she always saw that as a proper home.

And it's the most amazing place.

I've never been to Windsor Castle, but having seen it

last week during the service, where where all of the

the the horses and the guards were marching

towards Windsor Castle.

It was amazing.

I was I was actually awestruck by by the appearance of that building.

And that was on television.

So imagine what it must be like being there, actually being there in person.

And you can visit Windsor Castle.

You can actually go inside and walk around.

I went there as a boy.

Christine says.

It says, I was struck by the sound of bagpipes at the end of the season.

It was the low was very touching. The lone piper.

Yeah.

Because because every night the queen would, would have the lone piper

and he would play at the end of every day that she was there.

Yeah.

So at the end of the day it's the sunset.

And then the night began to fall.

He would play that same lament at night, the lone piper.

And that's the reason why it was such a big part of the funeral.

At the end of the service, the piper started playing and he walked away

and you could hear here the piper fading into the distance.

And that was an incredibly even I found the thing very moving, very poignant.

It's something very moving.

It means it touches you in your heart

emotionally and normally.

I'll be honest, I can't stand the sound of bagpipes.

I think it has to be it has to be the worst

sound ever produced by anything.

You're not a fan.

But I found the lone piper,

the lone bagpipe player to be very moving.

The sound of it as it faded away was really quite it struck me, I have to say,

even though I'm not a fan of the bagpipe types,

they're all steel drums as well.

So those are the two instruments

that I don't like, bagpipes normally.

And steel drums.

Those drums, the la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la.

I'm not a fan of steel drums, but yes, bagpipes are strange sound.

It's just a very odd looking instrument.

You can't quite understand how it works.

It just looks very, very odd.

Someone's wearing this with all these pipes and this sort of bag

So you often think of fruit trees as trees, but you don't have tomato trees.

I always still even now, even though people keep telling me they are not

vegetables, I still think that tomatoes are vegetables.

obviously comes from the cocoa bean, which grows on a tree.

And so every test sees that as chocolate.

So quite often if you have to gather certain

So as an actual expression to cherry pick means to select

things carefully with purpose.

So quite often a person will try to make an argument, won't they?

And they will choose certain things

that make their argument strong.

But then the other person might disagree and say, Oh, well, you are just cherry picking.

You are choosing those points very carefully

because you want to win the argument.

But maybe there are many other things you could say in in response

that would completely undo that are thoughts and ideas quite.

I always think of religious people.

Yes. Religious people will always cherry pick from.

I suppose I would use the Bible as a good example.

They always cherry pick.

Pick out the bits that support their argument. Yes.

Whereas leaving out the things which are there

which won't support that argument. Yes.

So they will say oh God said that you shouldn't do this.

But then elsewhere in the book it says the opposite thing

or it doesn't seem to actually mind if you do it.

So all they or that specifically there might point out

bits from the Bible, for example, that seem to show that

their sexuality wrong

and therefore the rule is it's wrong,

but then they will miss out and forget about the other bits of the Bible

that they say that, for example, the treatment of women.

Oh, I say, which we don't.
