It's Time to Learn English - Walk With Me '2' -- SEPTEMBER 2021 / with captions

hi everybody this is Mr Duncan in England

how are you today?

Are you okay?

I hope so.

Are you happy?

I hope so.

Well here is something I haven't done for a while,

in fact can you believe it's been almost  one year since I took a walk outside

and described the surrounding  area in which I was walking.

Please excuse me for a moment  I am slightly out of breath.

To be out of breath means  you can't catch your breath.

Perhaps you've been doing some exercise,

maybe you are slightly unfit.

Oh mr duncan!

You are very naughty because we  believe over the past 12 months

you have been eating too much food

and guess what...

you would be right.

I have been over indulging.

I will be honest with you  I've been eating too much food

I suppose the phrase I  could use is 'comfort food'.

We often eat to make ourselves feel comfortable.

Perhaps we are having a stressful day.

Maybe things are getting us down.

Quite often we will eat food  to give us some comfort,

so yes I am guilty.

I will hold my hand up now and say

I Mr Duncan am guilty of eating  too much food over the past year.

So here we are again I'm going for a little walk

and I hope you will enjoy it as well.

I know what you're going to say.

You are going to say Mr  Duncan we remember last year

when you made your September walk in 2020,

you said you were going to get fit  by walking up and down the 99 steps.

Well as they always say 'the  best laid plans of mice and men'

and in my particular case,

well I did exercise for maybe  two or three weeks afterwards,

but of course old habits die hard.

That is a great expression.

It means sometimes it's not easy to give up  the things that you've done for many years.

For example - smoking drinking  and in my case eating food.

I have to be honest with you, I do like food

and I have a feeling you like food as well.

Yes September is here

and we all know that here in the U.K that  means that summer is coming to an end.

Autumn is just around the corner.

I can't wait for autumn and you know why

because i am a very keen photographer

and also videographer and I love filming  all of the beautiful sights of autumn.

Many of the leaves will turn  gold, some will turn red

and for those trees that shed their leaves

of course we are talking about deciduous trees

they will lose their leaves as well

and then just around the corner from  that we have autumn. (and Winter)

By the way there is a terrible smell around here.

I have a feeling that there  might be a dead animal nearby.

I'm really enjoying the natural smells  and also the natural sounds today.

It really does feel as if autumn is on the way.

I have to be honest with you,

it's not too cold it's not too hot,

it's quite muggy, quite humid,

and maybe perhaps later we might also  get a little bit of rain as well.

I wonder where that dead animal is?

It really stinks.

I'm often asked how many walks  there are to take around this area,

the area in which I live.

Well I have good news for you.

Here in Shropshire there are hundreds of walks.

You can take many many different routes.

Some of the routes will go one way

and then they will join another  route, or another pathway

and then you can follow that one.

To be honest with you,

you could virtually walk for a whole day

and always find a new direction to go in.

That is one of the wonderful things  about living here in Shropshire,

there is no shortage of places to walk around in.

If you remember last year,

I talked all about the farmers

and the fact that they were doing  their harvesting much later than usual.

Well guess what,

this year is no exception.

The farmers have only just  finished doing the harvest.

They've been bringing in their crops for 2021

and already they have planted next year's crop

as you can see in this field.

So all of the green you can see behind me

is actually the crop for next year in early 2022.

This particular field will be harvested once again

and then a new crop once more will be planted.

So many farmers have once again  been struggling this year in 2021.

Just like last year we've had bad weather.

We've had a lot of rain

and also the restrictions that have been in place

for people transporting goods around the country

has also impacted the way in  which things move around...

including food!

Can you see what's happened up here?

A large piece of tree has actually fallen,

although it hasn't fallen  completely to the ground,

so hopefully this very large  piece of wood above my head

will stay where it is.

I hope it does not fall on  anyone's head including mine.

Over the past few months we've  had some very strange weather.

Some very hot days,

some very cold days

and some incredibly windy days

and that is the reason why this  big chunk of tree has snapped off.

fortunately at the moment no  one has been injured by it.

If you remember last year's video,

I took you for a long walk through a wooded area.

It was all covered with overhanging trees

and lots of branches swaying in the breeze.

Do you remember that?

Well today I'm walking in a more open area,

so this particular area is not as closed.

In fact if you listen carefully behind me

you might be able to hear the traffic going by

because I'm actually very close to the main road

that runs between here Much  Wenlock and Shrewsbury.

You might also hear some  robins singing above my head.

Hello Mr Robin...

nice to hear you singing in tune.

They sound very happy

and i hope you are as well.

Well I've just checked my phone

and I've noticed that already  I have walked five miles,

which is about the right amount of distance

that I want to walk every day to keep me fit.

So I think I will leave it here.

The other thing I've noticed is it's very late

and I think it's time for me to  go home and have something to eat,

however I won't be eating too much I promise.

I will try my best not to forget that  I am supposed to be getting fitter

and healthier for you.
