This is one of the new lambs that has been born recently.

And I've decided to keep you every time.

Yes. My name is Duncan, and I talk about the English language.

You might say that I am an English addict.

I'm quite keen.

If you are keen on something, it means you like it very much.

So you might say that I am keen on

not only English, but also talking about the English language,

sharing my love of the English language,

just like I'm sharing my love with my little lamb.

Lots of lambs are now popping out

of their mothers

in the fields around the area in which I live.

And that's another reason why I love this time of year.

One of many reasons, but I think one of the biggest reasons

why I love spring is because at this time of year

you will see many lambs.

Oh, I can't resist showing some newborn lambs.

So there is one of them. Isn't that lovely?

They are so cute when they are

so young.

And you can see that one there.

That one is not very old

because it still has its umbilical cord

The umbilical cord

is the thing that connects the baby to the mother.

And you can see that that particular, particular lamb

still has its umbilical cord.

And if you look at its tail, you might notice as well,

if you look closely at the tail, you can see there is something wrapped

around the lamb's tail

and that is to make the end of the tail drop off.

It is a way of shortening the tail.

It is called docking.

So when you dock something, you make something less

or maybe you make something shorter.

Oh, my goodness. Look at that.

Look at all those lovely little lambs I'm

not sure if I want to hug them or eat them, to be honest.

So I'm getting

a mixture of emotions as at the moment I'm getting them

the emotion of love, but also the emotion of wanting

to have something to eat with some mint sauce.

So there they are, the little lambs.

They they are all over the place at the moment as spring continues

and lots of lambs are now coming out.

Aren't they lovely?

Oh, I could sit all day watching them,

but I'm not going to because we have other things to do.

We do.

We have lots of things to do today.

We are talking all about passports today.

This is my passport, by the way, not yours.

This is mine.

And I remember one time in the past,

the British passport was the most sort.

It was the most desired passport.

In the world. Not anymore.

Apparently there are passports

that are more popular than the British passport.

And we will be looking at that a little bit later on.

Also, we will be discussing ways of using the word passport as well.

And there are many ways of using the word passport,

especially when we are talking about opportunity,

things that you might be able to get And I suppose that's one of the reasons

why not only the word passport,

but also a passport itself.

Can be very useful from time to time.

Yes, we have made it all the way to the middle of the week.

Something special to celebrate the arrival of spring time

because everyone becomes quite excited.

In fact, can I tell you a story?

Last weekend, Mr.

Steve and myself went into town and we were walking around and everyone.

Everyone seemed

happy.

Not just happy, but very happy.

In fact, a lot of people stopped to chat to us.

They said, hello, One, one person

even shouted, Hey, hey there.

And we turned around, and it was

it was the the man who runs the local farmer's market.

And he said, Hi, guys.

I thought you'd moved away.

I thought you'd gone away.

We thought you had left.

And we said, No, no, we're still here.

We're not going anywhere.

But a lot of people were very friendly, even a cyclist.

We were sitting down having our afternoon coffee on Saturday,

and a cyclist came,

sat down next to us and started chatting away.

Started chatting to us for no reason.

So it would appear spring time does bring out

the happiness and joy in people.

I suppose when you see colour like this,

I suppose it is very easy to become excited. Yes.

Some of the daffodils are still alive.

Many of them have withered away, but there are some

that are still surviving.

Some of the daffodils are still alive

for the next few days before they all shrivel away and disappear.

Can you believe there is one town here in the

UK that has banned daffodils?

It was in the news yesterday.

Apparently a local authority has banned daffodils.

They've gone around the whole town

and they've cut them all

They've removed all of the flowers

because they are worried that people

will try eating them.

Are people that crazy?

Have you ever eaten a daffodil?

Have you ever felt the desire to eat a daffodil

What is that all about?

I have no idea.

But that's what happens sometimes in this crazy world.

People do find very strange things.

Sometimes it makes absolutely

no sense whatsoever.

Apparently, they were worried that children

were going to try and eat the daffodils.

I don't think that happens.

I don't think children go around eating everything that exists.

To be honest, I don't think it happens.

Last week, I did something very strange.

is something like bread meat, maybe even cheese.

course, a lot of people these days are thinking of their health.

Something healthy cereal,

something with lots of wheat or bran.

I'm not sure about that.

I did for a while

have porridge for my breakfast, but then then suddenly I went off it.

I didn't want to eat it anymore.

So last week, I did have cheese for my breakfast.

I know it is a very strange thing to have for your breakfast, but I did.

That's what I did. I did.

I did that.

Honestly, I'm not joking.

I really did have cheese for my breakfast last week.

In a few moments we are looking at a very strange moment of time

that occurred last week when some people were walking around their local supermarket.

All of that coming up a little bit later on.

We are talking about

passport for today.

This used to be the most powerful passport in the world.

However, these days it is not

there are many more powerful

passports than the British passport.

And we will be looking that a little bit later on.

Hi, everybody, and welcome to another full English video lesson.

Here we are at lesson number three,

which also happens to be my imaginary age.

Anyway,

I can't lie here all day whispering about nothing,

as we have a very busy, full English lesson to get on with,

which will start around about now.

I love talking about British traditions and customs.

So today I would like to tell you about one that has been very popular for many years.

Over time, we often buy things that seem useful at the time,

but eventually they become unused and unwanted.

However, there is a way of selling your old items in person,

and sometimes you might make a little bit of money as well.

You can sell your second hand items to someone who needs them.

If something is second hand, it means that it has been used.

It is pre owned.

It is not new.

You can sell your unwanted items at a car boot sale.

This is a place where people turn up and sell

items from the boots of their cars.

There are many car boot sales that take place here in the UK.

They often happen at the weekend

Then there is a jumble sale.

Things that are unwanted or second hand

are sold at a jumble sale

a jumble sale is often held to raise money for charity.

The word jumble means old and unwanted,

as well as mixed up and messy.

Old unwanted items can be

described as knickknacks, odds and ends.

BRIC a brac jumble and even junk.

There are shops that specialise in second hand items.

You might buy a second hand car.

A car that has been pre-owned and not new

is second hand

It's now time for another buzz word.

A buzz word is a word or phrase that is used

during a certain period of time or is generally popular.

Today's buzz word is

shaming.

This particular word is not new, but it is

often used in phrases that have become prominent.

The word shame means to feel upset or distraught

over some negative aspect of your life, or because of the way you feel about yourself.

You feel self-conscious about something.

We often use shaming with the state of being a certain way.

One group of people might accuse another of shaming them

by the things they say or do overweight

people might feel fat shamed because of their size.

They are made to feel uncomfortable about being fat

So fat shaming is the action of ridiculing

or placing guilt on the overweight.

Another one is poverty shaming, which is the action of ridiculing

or using a person's poverty for entertainment or exploitation.

A poor person might be berated or shamed for being poor.

This form of shaming is seen by some

as embarrassing and exploitative.

The suffix shaming can be added to any state

that is held up as a way not to live.

Poverty shaming, fat shaming, body shaming,

parental shaming or Internet shaming are all seen as types

of social humiliation by those affected by the negative attention

they bring

Here are two English words

that both have positive meanings and can shape a person's life forever.

The words are inspire and aspire.

Firstly, the word inspire means to fill someone with the urge or ability to do something.

Quite often the thing in question is creative.

Something you see or hear inspires you to do something yourself.

You feel inspired by the thing you saw

You feel the urge to do something similar or to go off on your own course

and create something unique and individual.

The action of another person might inspire you to do the same thing

you feel and bold and move.

I like that word.

To embolden is to give confidence and encouragement through action.

You might describe inspiration as a type of enlightenment

you feel inspired, which encourages you to take action.

I attended a business seminar last weekend

and now I feel inspired to start my own company.

That beautiful sunset has inspired me to start painting again.

Then there is the word

inspire which describes the feeling of bettering yourself.

You see a place where you would like to be in the future

with a better job, a better house, or perhaps a more comfortable lifestyle.

These are the things a person might aspire to.

You might say that the urge which comes from feeling aspiration

is what pushes us forward to better ourselves.

You aspire towards a goal

or an objective ambition, and hope

can be the driving forces that help you realise your dreams for the future.

You can be inspired to aspire.

I saw a lovely village on TV last night,

which is the place I'd like to live one day.

To dream and aspire is what we all do.

Sometimes those hopes and dreams are big and appear out of reach.

But if you can imagine something, then there is no reason why it can't be achieved.

It all depends on you.

To inspire is to give someone a spark of creativity.

To aspire is to think positive, dream big,

and most importantly of all, never give up

Have you ever met someone famous?

Have you ever bumped into someone

bumping into someone famous?

If you bump into someone, it means you collide with them.

So we can use this phrase maybe

in more than one way to bump into someone is to collide.

But also we can use it as a way of expressing.

Meeting someone so you might bump into an old friend.

You might meet someone you haven't seen for a long time.

Maybe a friend, maybe a relative, or maybe a famous person.

And this happened a few days ago when a group of people

were walking around their local supermarket and they met

John Travolta

as you do

Yes, it can happen.

You might be walking around your local supermarket

in Norfolk

and suddenly

buy the baked beans.

You see John Travolta from Hollywood

doing his shopping.

And that's what happened a few days ago.

Lots of very eager people, very excited.

So they wanted to have their photographs taken.

In fact, I think these days

people prefer to have a photograph with a famous person

instead of their autograph.

So in the past, you would often ask

a famous person to write their name

on a piece of paper or maybe on something else.

Maybe on your T-shirt, you ask the person

to sign something for you.

But these days, I think when someone meets a famous

person, I think quite often

they want

a photograph because we all have our mobile phones in our hands.

So it's much easier these days to do that.

It's much easier to say, oh, hello, John Travolta.

Is it okay if I take a photograph with you?

And apparently he was more than willing to spend time

with people in the supermarket

and have lots and lots of pictures

taken with many different people, which I think is fantastic.

It is.

So we often think of celebrities as being distant.

They quite often don't want to communicate

with the general public.

Like me and you.

But apparently everyone was saying John Travolta was so nice.

He spent so much time talking to us and he didn't mind.

He stood with many people having his photograph taken with them.

And it was no trouble whatsoever.

So I get the feeling that John Travolta

is one of those nice celebrities.

Of course, we often hear of stories of people

meeting celebrities who turn out

to be not very nice.

Maybe they don't want to talk to the general public.

Maybe they don't want to have their photograph taken with anyone.

Maybe they just walk away.

Maybe they shout abuse

at the public.

It can happen sometimes.

So, yes, if you are lucky, you might meet someone famous and they might be lovely.

They might actually be very nice in real life.

I have met some famous people.

I remember a few years ago,

I was in London many years ago.

And the premiere of a film called

12 Monkeys was taking place.

And I was outside the cinema And lots of famous people

were arriving for the premiere of the movie.

And one of those people was Bruce Willis.

So I actually managed to say hello to Bruce Willis.

He stood right in front of me, and I said, Hello, Bruce.

And then he was gone.

It was a very fleeting moment of time.

But yes, I have met famous people.

I suppose the most famous person must be Bruce Willis.

I think so.

I've met other famous people.

But maybe people that you haven't heard of.

We actually have a famous person

living here in much Wenlock.

We have a very famous TV celebrity

living here and much Wenlock

I might talk more about that tomorrow.

a couple of years ago, I was actually staying in Portugal with Mr.

Steve because he he won a holiday.

And the place we were staying at was also

where a wedding reception was being held, a wedding party.

And one of the guests was Ronaldo

It's true.

So Ronaldo was having a party.

He was having a disco

just a few metres away from where I was trying to sleep,

because unfortunately that party was happening at night

in the very early hours of the morning,

So can I say thank you very much, Ronaldo,

for disturbing my sleep one night with your loud party

Apparently all of the Portuguese players were there.

All of Portugal's famous football stars

were all attending this party and I was sleeping

not very far away

or at least I was trying to sleep.

Well, I haven't met anyone accidentally, but of course,

there was a time

that I was famous, and that was when I was living in China.

So when I was working and living in China,

I don't know how it happened,

but I did appear quite a few times on television.

And then a lot of people

started to recognise me when I was walking around the streets.

It was

a little embarrassing at times, but yes, for a short time

I was almost famous

in China, and that's it, really.

I would not describe myself as famous anymore.

Definitely not.

I'm starting to worry about living around here.

Everyone seems to assume that I am

about 95 years old, but I'm not.

So this is another thing that I've received through my letterbox.

Would I like a personal alarm?

So actually, as you get older, this.

This could actually be useful.

My mother used to have one when she lived at home

before she went into care.

She used to have a little alarm that she would wear around her neck.

And if she fell over or had any difficulty, she would press

the button and then someone would actually call the house

and if she needed help,

they would come round and help her.

So my mum was very stubborn when she was still living at home.

She was very stubborn.

She used to say, I am never leaving this house.

So even though she had difficulty walking

and moving around, she still wanted to live at home.

So she had one of these little personal alarms.

But as far as I'm concerned, I don't think I need one.

Just yet, but maybe in the future.

So I might keep this somewhere safe just in case.

Maybe in the future I will need one of those as well.

you can visit without needing any other documents.

So I thought it'd be interesting to have a quick look at the top ten.

So we're going to go through a number ten all the way to number one.

You might be surprised to find out which one is the most powerful.

Which passport in the world is the most powerful,

the one that you can use without needing

Monaco.

Monaco is number ten

and number nine.

Bulgaria

at number eight.

Oh, we have a few countries here all sharing the same position.

Cyprus, Croatia, Liechtenstein

and also Romania as well.

At number eight.

At number seven,

just one Iceland.

Apparently, if you have an Iceland passport,

there are many, many countries that you can visit without needing a visa.

Estonia, Latvia and Slovenia.

Oh, yes, I've heard of all of those countries.

And they are number six.

At number five.

You might recognise is one of these countries

We have Singapore, Greece,

Lithuania, the United Kingdom,

and also

Slovakia and Canada as well.

Number five and number four

Norway, Malta, the Czech Republic,

Switzerland, Hungary, Ireland

and the United States of America.

So I would imagine that many people might be surprised

to find that the USA is not number one.

So the United States of America does not have

the most powerful passport.

There are

countries much higher up.

I can't even read that.

The writing is so small

you have to just trust me.

Denmark, Spain, France, Netherlands,

Belgium, Portugal,

Japan,

Finland, New Zealand and Australia

are all at number three.

At number

two, there are quite a few countries that number two, including Germany,

Sweden, Finland, Italy,

Austria, Luxembourg and South Korea.

You might be surprised to see South Korea that, but yes, number two,

sharing the list with many other countries

and a number one, the most powerful passport in the world,

the one that will get you into almost

every country in the world without needing a visa. Is

wait for it.

The United Arab Emirates, the most powerful passport.

It will get you into more countries around the world

than any other passport.

something you desire, something you want,

something you've always wanted to have

your passport.

Can be anything.

Something you do, something you learn,

something you study.

They can all be described as your passport,

your passport to

freedom.

So learning something new, maybe having a good education,

maybe an opportunity that comes your way

can be your passport to freedom.

And we often think of this when we look for work,

a certain type of job, maybe

a certain job can be your passport

to freedom, especially if the salary is very good.

So we can say that something can be your passport

if it is something that is useful in your life.

Your passport to opportunity

So again, when you think about things

that might give you a chance to do something,

we can describe it as your passport

How about your passport to employment?

You might think of education qualification

as being your passport to employment.

So if you have a certain qualification or a certain ability, something you can do

We might describe those things as your passport to employment.

Those are the things that are allowing you

to move forward with your life.

And that is why we use the word passport

You might also say fortune.

Oh, so this particular word can be used in many ways the word fortune.

Soon can be your luck, your good luck,

your opportunities as

far as having a good job or maybe a career or maybe money.

So your passport to fortune

can be anything that leads you towards good luck

to having good fortune.

And then, of course, I suppose another one we can look at is

quite obvious

health.

Your passport to help.

Can you think of anything that might be your passport to help?

Well, maybe having a good lifestyle,

maybe staying healthy and fit, maybe having a good diet.

We might describe those things as being your passport to health.

So if you follow those rules,

then they can lead you to having good health.

So the passport in this case is your opportunity

to have a healthy life.

Talking of which,

you can have your passport

to life.

To having a good life, to enjoying your life again.

It can refer to your career.

Many your status in society.

In fact, many, many things.

Your passport to life, the opportunities that might come

your way, that will allow you to live.

And finally, on our list,

you can have your passport to education

So as you go through your school

life from your early years

and right up to the point where you go to university city

education can also give you many opportunities.

Education can be your passport to a good career.

Or a good life.

Your education can decide what your destiny will be.

So that's the reason why we often use the word passport

as a general term

for anything that can bring you opportunity

But of course,

when we talk about an actual passport like this,

this is my passport

It's not the most powerful passport in the world.

And fortunately, it's it number five

not number one.

Are you surprised by that?

Maybe not.

So when we talk about passports,

we often talk about the ease of entry.

How easy is it to get in

to a place your passport So when we talk about your passport,

it is the document that allows you entry.

It gives you ease of entry.

It is allowing you to go into a certain place

or into a certain country.

You might also describe a passport

as the requirement for entry.

And of course, quite often you need more than a passport.

So sometimes you will need a passport, but

also you will need something else as well.

You might find

that you also need a visa as well.

So if you have to have a visa, that is something that you have to have

as well as your passport.

So many countries do require

not only your passport, but also another document as well.

Visa.

I remember when I went to Turkey with Mr.

Steve, and they have a very interesting rule

in Turkey If you ever go to Turkey

and if you are travelling from the UK,

apparently there is an agreement between the U.K.

and Turkey.

You have to have a visa.

However,

you can pay for the visa when you get to Turkey

and it costs £20.

So there is a small arrangement

that has been agreed on

between the United Kingdom and Turkey.

So quite often if you travel to Turkey, you will need to have your visa already.

But if you come from the UK, you don't.

All you have to do is give them £20

and then they will give you a visa.

Isn't that strange?

But apparently it's well known

It's true.

I'm not joking.

Another thing you might need, of course, is your proof of identity.

Yes. Well, you might say that this is your proof of identity,

but nowadays, of course, you might find that this is not enough.

You might have to have perhaps a driving licence

or maybe some other way of proving

that you are who you say you are.

So I would imagine that a passport for most countries will be enough.

You will be able to use just your passport.

However, you might also need a visa,

and you might also need some other proof of identity.

As well.

And there are some countries that have their own identity card.

A few years ago here in the U.K., people were trying to

to get identity cards here in the U.K.

But so far it hasn't happened.

But we do have our passport, and some people do say that

your passport is

very similar to an identity card.

It is a very good way of proving that you are

who you say you are.

So it will be very easy for me to prove that I am Mr.

Duncan because I have my passport,

even though my passport photograph is not very good

It is a horrible passport photograph,

to be honest with you.

So what about you?

I know from my time living in China,

it is not easy to get a passport if you are a Chinese citizen.

It's very difficult.

It's not easy.

You have to do lots of certain special things.

Sometimes you have to bribe people to get a passport.

So I know from my experience in China

for people who are actually Chinese citizens, it is incredibly difficult,

very hard to get a passport if you live in China,

Do the citizens of the EU

not need a Turkish passport anymore?

Well, I suppose I should explain briefly

that since Brexit, the United Kingdom is now separate

from everywhere else, so the rules might be different.

But I do know that if you travel from the UK

and I suppose also maybe the United,

the European Union, it's very confusing,

then maybe you don't need a visa as well.

But yes, it has been

an agreement

that apparently has been around for many years and we were quite surprised

because most countries are very strict

when it comes to visas.

They require that you must have

the visa with your passport.

But it would appear that Turkey

has come to some arrangement

where you can just pay for your visa when you arrive.

It seems like a bit of a risk to me, but there you go.

the immigration officials are very busy

because there are many people from Ukraine coming in.

Yes, I would imagine if you are living in one of the countries

near to Ukraine, I would imagine that there are many people now

going into your countries and looking for

refuge from Ukraine as well.
