I guess, one of the advantages of an online course

And so, maybe, how do you feel now that you've finished

Just sort of realizing that you can do it,

and then seeing, hey, I can do this.

- That is a big step

because then you feel better in the future,

- Of course, it depends on accents

but I think that, also, it's easier for me

to understand native speakers.

- Yeah, or they speak really fast, or, yeah.

- But in generally, it's easier to understand

Now I think that I'm able to understand

- And this is another good point.

- Yeah, because often, a lot of times, people complain,

Americans, they speak fast or they eat their words.

Américains, ils parlent vite ou ils ravalent leurs mots.

- They eat their words.

- Ils mangent leurs mots.

- Yeah, right, yeah.

- Ouais, d'accord, ouais.

- Okay.

- D'accord.

- I also have understood that the most important things

- J'ai aussi compris que le plus important

is to catch the general meaning,

c'est de saisir le sens général,

because it's normal, when you speak very fast.

car c'est normal, quand on parle très vite.

In Italian, it's the same.

En italien, c'est pareil.

We do a lot of inferences to fill the gap

Nous faisons beaucoup d'inférences pour combler le vide

of our conversation, and the same is in English.

de notre conversation, et c'est la même chose en anglais.

So it's not to important to understand each singular word.

Il n'est donc pas important de comprendre chaque mot au singulier.

- Exactly.

- Exactement.

- It's important to understand the general meaning

- Il est important de comprendre le sens général

and there is nothing wrong in asking,

et il n'y a rien de mal à demander,

"Sorry, can you repeat please."

"Désolé, pouvez-vous répéter s'il vous plaît."

(Romina laughs) - Yeah, exactly.

(Romina rit) - Ouais, exactement.

- Often, a lot of times, what I tell students is like,

- Souvent, souvent, ce que je dis aux étudiants, c'est que

if you, let's say you go through your life

si vous, disons que vous passez votre vie

in your native language in one day,

dans votre langue maternelle en une journée,

and you just notice these things.

et que vous remarquez ces choses.

Like you said, maybe you're speaking to your Italian friend,

Comme vous l'avez dit, peut-être que vous parlez à votre ami italien,

you don't catch, you don't focus on every single word.

vous ne comprenez pas, vous ne vous concentrez pas sur chaque mot.

- Exactly.

- Exactement.

- And sometimes you say to your friend,

"Wait, what did you say?"

"Attends, qu'as-tu dit ?"

Or "Say that again."

Ou "Dites-le encore."

And it's totally natural and it's the same in English.

Et c'est tout à fait naturel et c'est pareil en anglais.

- Yeah, it's true. - Exactly!

- Ouais, c'est vrai. - Exactement!

- But I think, like you said earlier,

- Mais je pense que, comme tu l'as dit plus tôt,

it's like sometimes when it's your second language

c'est comme si parfois, quand c'est ta deuxième langue,

you have higher expectations of yourself

tu as des attentes plus élevées envers toi-même

or you're more self-conscious.

ou tu es plus gêné.

But, yeah.

Mais ouais.

Okay, and then final question.

D'accord, et puis dernière question.

Is there anything that you would want to share

with a student who is, maybe,

thinking about joining this program or they're hesitating or

they're just curious to know something about it?

- I think that it works to try.

Just because I think that hesitation is normal.

- Don't everything can work for everybody.

- Tout ne peut pas fonctionner pour tout le monde.

- Exactement.

- I hesitated as well in the beginning, before joining.

- J'ai hésité aussi au début, avant de rejoindre.

But I think that it's a new experience.

It is a new modality of following an English course.

C'est une nouvelle modalité de suivre un cours d'anglais.

It's something different.

C'est quelque chose de différent.

- Yeah, exactly.

- A reason why to deserves to try.

- Yeah, exactly.

And you're right.

Like you said, "Oh, I had hesitations."

I'm the same way.

Before I buy anything, I'm comparing and I'm looking,

and I'm kinda like, I don't know if this works.

et je me dis un peu, je ne sais pas si ça marche.

- It's something different but you can find everything...

I mean, you have the online interactions,

Je veux dire, tu as les interactions en ligne,

but you also have the grammatical parts, if you want.

mais tu as aussi les parties grammaticales, si tu veux.

There are a lot of contents,

in terms of grammatics, topics, et cetera.

en termes de grammaire, de sujets, etc.

So you have also the possibility to do a more normal course.
