Learn the English Phrases THE DEAD OF NIGHT and THE DEAD OF WINTER

In this English lesson,

I wanted to help you learn the English phrase

저는 여러분이 영어 표현인

the dead of night.

the dead of night을 배우도록 돕고 싶었습니다.

When we say the dead of night,

한밤중이라고 하면

we mean the very middle of the night.

한밤중을 의미합니다.

Like the darkest point of the night.

밤의 가장 어두운 지점처럼.

When I go to bed at 10 o'clock at night,

밤 10시에 잠자리에 들면

sometimes I get up in the middle of the night,

because I have to go to the washroom, or I'm really thirsty.

화장실에 가야 하거나 목이 너무 말라서 한밤중에 일어날 때도 있습니다.

So if it's like one or two o'clock in the morning,

그래서 새벽 1시나 2시 , 새벽

or three o'clock in the morning,

3시 같은 경우 한밤중이라고

you could say it's the middle of the night,

말할 수 있지만

but you could also say it's the dead of night.

한밤중이라고 말할 수도 있습니다.

They sometimes use this in movies or TV shows

that are really scary.

They'll say like I saw something when I was walking outside

So in the dead of night

따라서 in the dead of night은

simply means the middle of the night.

Right now it's snowing outside.

And the second phrase I wanted to teach you

is the dead of winter.

Notice it's the same phrase almost,

but instead of the evening or the night,

저녁이나 밤 대신

I'm talking about a season.

Right now, it is just about December.

지금은 12월에 불과합니다.

I think you're watching this on December 1st actually.

It's actually the beginning of winter.

It's not the dead of winter yet.

When we get to the end of January, when it's really cold,

when it's -15 Celsius outside,

바깥 기온이 -15도이고

and there's three feet of snow,

눈이 3피트가 쌓이면 한겨울이라고

we would say that that is the dead of winter.

So to review, when you say it is the dead of night,

When you're old like me,

you tend to get up once or twice in the middle of the night,

Anyways, and when you talk about the dead of winter,

It is an extra word that is used to emphasize something.

In this case,

I used it to subtly point out

that I had made, that I had misspoke.
