Learn the English Phrases DOWN THE DRAIN and GOING UNDER - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So today I wanted to help you learn the English phrase

그래서 오늘 저는 여러분이 영어 표현을 배우는 것을 돕고 싶었습니다

down the drain.

When we say in English that something

영어로 something

is going down the drain,

is going down the drain은

it means that things are getting worse.

상황이 악화되고 있다는 뜻입니다.

If I was to say that a business is going down the drain,

사업이 망하고 있다고 말하면

it means that the business isn't making money.

사업이 돈을 벌지 못한다는 뜻입니다.

The business doesn't have very many customers.

사업체는 고객이 많지 않습니다.

The business is going down the drain.

사업이 하수구로 가고 있습니다.

And just to remind you, the drain is the thing

참고로 배수구는

that you find at the bottom of a sink.

싱크대 바닥에 있는 것입니다.

When you turn on a tap or a faucet,

수도꼭지 나 수도꼭지를 틀면

the water goes down the drain.

물이 배수구로 내려갑니다.

So we use the same phrase to describe things

그래서 우리는 나쁜 일을 묘사할 때 같은 표현을 사용합니다

that are going badly.

You can also say that a relationship

관계가

is going down the drain.

If the two people in the relationship don't get along,

you could say it's going down the drain.

And then we have another little phrase

when we think people are spending money

and not in a good way,

we say that it's like pouring money down the drain.

So instead of keeping the money or saving it,

I also want to talk about the phrase going under.

When a business isn't doing well,

we would say that the business is going under.

Another English word for it

So when you say that a business,
