Meaning of GO FOR IT - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So I'm going to guess that most of you already know this English phrase.

When you say, "Go for it!", to someone it means that you are encouraging them to do

the thing that they're thinking of doing.

Maybe you have a brother or sister who are thinking about applying for a new job, and

they're not sure if they should or not.

You could say, "Go for it!", basically what that means is you think it's a great idea

for them to apply for a new job.

We also use this phrase when someone is thinking of asking someone out.

So maybe you have a cousin and he knows a girl that he really likes and he wants to

ask her out on a date.

You might say to your cousin, you know, "Go for it!

I'm sure if you asked her out she would say yes!"

But I would only say go for it if you think its a good idea.

You should always be honest with people and only say go for it if it's a good idea.

So we have another phrase that we say to people to encourage them and that's, "You can do

it!"

You've probably heard the Nike phrase, "Just do it!"

This is a little more of affirmation.

Letting someone know that whatever they are planning to do, you think they would be good

at it.

So for instance, let's use the job example again.

If someone was to get a different job and you think they would do a really good job

at that job you could say to them, "You can do it!".

Sometimes we say it with a funny accent, we say, "You can do it!"
