Meaning of IMHO - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So you may have seen these four letters I-M-H-O

on the internet, maybe in the chat of a YouTube live stream

or in another place where people are chatting online,

and it stands for "in my humble opinion"

or "in my honest opinion."

Because the internet can't quite agree

which one of these is correct so we use both.

In English you don't want to sound like a know-it-all.

A know-it-all is a person who sounds like

they know everything and so when you say something online

sometimes before you say it

you want to say, "In my humble opinion."

When you are humble it means that you don't think

that you are the most amazing person in the world,

you just think that you are a person

who has something to contribute to the discussion

that's going on.

So if you see these four letters in a discussion online

it means either "in my humble opinion"

or "in my honest opinion."

It can mean either.

So let's talk a little bit more about being a know-it-all.

I think this is something that is true

in almost every culture.

No one likes a know-it-all.

A know-it-all is a person that knows everything

about food and they know everything about cars

and they know everything about school

and they know everything about the government

and whenever you have a conversation

they are quick to talk as if they are the expert.

So I think it is better to be humble

and to only talk about things that you know about

when you actually do know about them

and it's good to not be a know-it-all.

You should look up the definition of know-it-all.

It is kind of an interesting thing to call someone.

So I'm pretty sure none of you are know-it-alls,
