Meaning of WINTER WONDERLAND - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English, when we say

it is a winter wonderland outside

we mean that we have just gotten a snowfall

and that there is a beautiful blanket of snow on everything.

Usually, when we have a snowfall like this,

and everything just looks really, really beautiful,

we refer to it as a winter wonderland.

You can see here that there is ice and snow on the trees,

there is a beautiful blanket of snow on the ground

and I'll keep walking here,

just so you can get a better sense

of what it looks like out here.

It is just a beautiful winter wonderland today.

This is the kind of snowfall

that we really like to have closer to Christmas.

When you wake up on Christmas Day,

if we have a snowfall like this we really, really like it.

So, yesterday we had an ice storm

and you can see here that the ice storm,

we had what we call freezing rain.

So you can see that the trees,

they don't just have a little bit of snow on them,

but they also have a little bit of ice on them.

So, this is actually pretty rare,

it only happens one or times in the winter,

but yesterday it was raining,

but it was also below zero degrees Celsius.

So as the rain came down it froze to a lot of surfaces.

They all have a nice covering of ice on them

and a little bit of snow.

So, it's just a beautiful winter wonderful out here today.
