Learn the English Phrases BURNING A HOLE IN MY POCKET and GET RICH QUICK SCHEME

In this English lesson I wanted

to help you learn the English phrase,

burning a hole in my pocket.

Or if you were talking about someone else burning a hole in

his pocket or burning a hole in her pocket.

This is a phrase we use to talk about someone

who just got some money and they want to spend

it as soon as possible.

We would say the money is burning a hole in their pocket.

Maybe you have a son or daughter

who has just started their first job

and they just got their first paycheck and there's something

they really want to buy and when they cash their paycheck,

when they put their check in the bank,

the money is now burning a hole in their pocket.

I know when I was really young, when I was about 13,

when I got my first paycheck,

I really wanted to buy a certain part for my computer.

I would have described myself exactly like this.

When I was that age, when I got my first paycheck,

from my part time job,

the money was burning a hole in my pocket.

Definitely.

And I did buy that computer part.

I think it helped me eventually become someone

who knows how to use technology well.

What I don't like though are things

where people promise that you can get rich quick.

When you say that someone is trying to get rich quick,

it means that they're trying to get a lot of money quickly

without working very hard.

And in fact, we have something called get rich schemes.

A get rich scheme is when maybe your brother-in-law says,

if you give me $100 and if you find three people

to give you $100, then eventually we'll all be rich.

And it's not a way to make money legally.

It's kind of a scheme.

It's a, it's kind of a trick you play on someone

where you try to get rich quick.

So I do not like get rich quick schemes.

I do not like it when people try to get rich quick.

I like it when people work hard

and just do a good job at whatever job they are doing.

So anyways, sometimes money can burn a hole in your pocket.

So right now, if I had $10 and I really wanted to spend it,

I could say that it was burning a hole in my pocket.

And sometimes people want to get rich quick

by using a get rich quick scheme.

Hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video.

This is a comment from Brent.

Brent is from the YouTube channel "American English

With This Guy."

And Brent's comment is about singing in the shower.

So yesterday's video we had a comment from Maz

who said that singing in the shower

was a great place to sing.

And Brent from "American English With This Guy"

says," the acoustics in the shower are so good, though."

What he means by that is that in the shower when you sing

it sounds good.

When a room has good acoustics,

it means that when you talk or sing in that room,

it just sounds really good.

It doesn't echo too much.

And it sounds really good.

Maz actually replies again and says, "too, right?"

So Maz is agreeing with Brent.

And then my reply was, that's what I've heard.

In fact, the guy on the "How to Dad,"

YouTube channel records some of his voiceovers

in the shower with the water off of course.

I don't know if you've watched, "How to Dad,"

if you search on YouTube for "How to Dad,"

it's this guy from New Zealand and he's really,

really funny.

If you are a dad yourself,

you'll find him to be hilarious for sure.
