Meaning of BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English when we use the phrase "by leaps and bounds" we're usually talking about something

that is improving or increasing really, really quickly.

I hope that the total amount of English words you know is increasing by leaps and bounds

every single day.

I hope you're doing a lot of work to improve the total number of words you know and I hope

your ability to understand English is also increasing by leaps and bounds every day.

You see me doing this like I'm jumping with my hand, leaping is a form of jumping.

So it is my hope that your total knowledge of the English language, your ability to listen

and speak and read and write is increasing every day by leaps and bounds and that soon

you will be completely fluent in English.

That'd be cool.

If I was to use this phrase in the past tense I would say, "I hope that last year your knowledge

of the English language was increasing by leaps and bounds."

If I was to use it in the present tense I would say, "I hope that today your knowledge

of the English language is increasing by leaps and bounds."

And, if I was to talk about the future I would say, "I hope that next year your knowledge

of the English language will increase by leaps and bounds."

Or I could say, "I hope next year your knowledge of the English language is going to increase

by leaps and bounds."

Either way, I hope that you're just learning more and more every day.
