Meaning of ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

Hi, Bob the Canadian here.

I hope you are doing well.

It has been almost a week since my last video

on this channel,

and I hope that in my absence, you have missed me.

We have an English phrase,

absence makes the heart grow fonder.

And, what this refers to is when

someone who you like a lot, or someone who you love

isn't around, when they are far away,

their absence actually makes you think about them more,

and it makes you miss them,

and it makes you appreciate them a lot more,

or even love them a lot more.

So I'm not saying that my absence made you

more fond of me, but it is saying that we do have in English

that when someone is gone on a trip,

when someone is not around for a long time,

sometimes their absence, the fact that they're not around

is something that causes you to miss them a lot

and to like them even more.

So hopefully you still like me.

If you're wondering where I was, I was just sick.

I had a really sore throat.

I lost my voice.

I actually took two whole days off work.

I don't take a lot of sick days,

but I took two days off work, and I'm feeling a lot better.

If you are a subscriber of my other channel,

you'll see that I'm doing a livestream tomorrow morning,

so I'm back it, so, but anyways,

hopefully in my absence,

you were able to learn a little bit of English,

maybe from other people.

I know that many of you kept watching my videos,

even while I was not making new ones,
