Meaning of UP TO NO GOOD - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So do you ever see a group of teenagers hanging out, maybe at the mall, maybe by the coffee

shop, and you think they look like they're up to no good.

A lot of times that's what older people think about teenagers.

They think that sometimes teenagers are up to no good.

When we say someone is up to no good in English it means that we think they are doing something

wrong, or they are doing something bad, or maybe even something illegal.

So I know as a high school teacher, because I work with teenagers all the time, sometimes

people ask me, you know teenagers these days they're always up to no good, and I would

have to disagree with that.

I work with teenagers everyday and they're, they're really nice most of them and I think

the world will be a fine place when the teenagers of today get older and start to run things.

I don't think that all teenagers are up to no good.

I think they're up to a lot of good.

So if we use this in the past I would say, you know, "Those teenagers yesterday they

were up to no good."

I could say, "Those teenagers over there, they are up to no good."

And if I was to talk in the future I would say you know, "Teenagers they're just going

to be up to no good tomorrow, or those teenagers will be up to no good tomorrow if we leave

them unsupervised."

By the way, again, I, I don't think teenagers are all that bad.

They're actually pretty good kids for the most part.
