Meaning of EASY DOES IT - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English we use the phrase easy does it, to tell

someone we want them to do something slowly and carefully.

Probably the best example I can think of is if someone

has had surgery at the hospital,

and it is a day or two after surgery

and the nurses and doctors want them to get out of bed

for the first the time.

The nurse would probably say, "Okay Bob, easy does it now.

We want you to slowly stand up.

We will help you, but easy does it, don't do it too quickly,

do it slowly and do it carefully."

So if you say to someone in English, easy does it,

it means that you want them to do something slowly,

and you want them to do something carefully.

It's kind of a funny little phrase,

I bet you you've heard it a lot.

And I think that it is a good phrase for you to learn.

So easy does it is something you say so that someone

does something slowly sand carefully.

So easy does it is one such phrase where we want to tell

someone to do something carefully and slowly.

And then there's also other things we say if someone

does something too fast.

So if I was to say to my mom, I'll help you get out of your

chair and then as she starts to get up I say easy does it.

And if she went too quickly I would say whoa!

(laughs) Whoa, slow down there mom.

You are getting out of your chair too quickly.

So easy does it means do it slow and easy,

and whoa, would mean you're going a little too fast.

That would be an informal way to say it by the way.

And also if my mom's watching this,

mom I know you're not that old that I have to help

you get out of your chair.
