Meaning of IT'S SPITTING and IT'S DRIZZLING - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So you probably can't quite see it,

but it's spitting right now.

In English in Canada, when we say, "It's spitting,"

it means that it is just starting to rain.

The raindrops that are falling out of the sky

are very, very small, and there's just one or two drops

hitting me every few seconds.

So in that case, I would say, "It's spitting."

I think in about 10 minutes, though,

it will probably be drizzling.

When we say, "It's drizzling,"

in English, that would be rain coming down harder

than if it's just spitting outside.

So right now, it's spitting.

Pretty soon, it will be drizzling.

And we're in for a storm for the whole weekend.

It's supposed to rain tonight.

The rain is supposed to get harder overnight

and tomorrow we are supposed to get a lot of rain.

I'm a little disappointed because it's spitting

and it's drizzling (laughs) but it's supposed to be snowing.

Anyways, after it's drizzling,

the rain will come down quite a bit harder.

Usually the next hardest definition of rain in English

would be to say, "It's raining."

That's a pretty boring one.

But if it's drizzling, in about 10 minutes,

in about half an hour, it will be raining.

And you would say, "It's raining."

After that, if it rains harder, we would start

to say things like, "It's pouring."

So anyways, a few different degrees

of how the rain comes down.

Hopefully at some point during this month,

we get a little bit more snow

and a little bit more winter.

Bob, the Canadian's a little disappointed

with the winter weather this year.

It should be a lot colder.

And it should be a lot snowier.

Snowier, (laughs) it's hard for me to say that word.
