Meaning of IT TOOK FOREVER- A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

We like to exaggerate a lot in English.

When you exaggerate you describe something as being worse than it was or better than

it was.

And today we took the kids swimming and after we went swimming we went to a fast food restaurant

and we ordered food and it took forever for them to make the food.

It took a long time for them to make the food.

So in English we like to say things like, "It took forever.", to describe something

that really only took about 25 minutes.

It wasn't really that long, but you will often hear exaggerations about time.

Sometimes people go to renew their drivers licence and they will describe it by saying,

"It took forever!

I waited in line forever at the licence bureau in order to renew my licence."

So I'm sure that you guys do this in your own languages as well.

Anyways, there's a couple versions of this.

"It took forever.", would be me talking in the past, something that already happened.

If I was to talk about tomorrow I would say, "Tomorrow I need to renew my licence and it's

going to take forever!"

Notice the change there.

Or I might say, "It will take forever."

"I know it will take forever because the line there is usually pretty long.

In the past you would say, It took forever.", but in the future you would say.

"It will take forever.", or, "It's going to take forever."
