Meaning of THAT'S LIFE and THAT'S THE WAY THE COOKIE CRUMBLES - An English Lesson with Subtitles

- So in life, you don't always get what you want.

I think there's a Rolling Stones song about that by the way,

and when you don't get what you want,

sometimes someone will say to you, you know, that's life.

Maybe you went to the bank and you applied for a loan

because you want to buy a car

or maybe you want to start a business.

And you filled in all the forms and you did everything right

but then the bank calls a few days later

and says that you did not get approved for the loan.

They will not lend you money.

When you tell a friend, your friend might say,

well, that's life.

You know, if you don't have all of the things in place

that you need to to be able to borrow money,

sometimes the bank will say no.

So they might say to you, that's life.

Maybe you were going out with a really cute boy

or a cute girl, and they dumped you.

They broke up with you.

A friend of yours might say, hey, that's life.

Relationships don't always last forever.

We have another phrase.

I'm actually gonna talk about this phrase

in my big video tomorrow on my other channel,

and it means almost the same thing.

It's that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Now, a cookie is something you eat,

and when you bite into a cookie,

sometimes, little crumbs fall off.

Sometimes, the cookie crumbles.

And we use this phrase the same way

we use the phrase, that's life.

Sometimes we'll say to someone, you know,

that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Maybe, again, you applied for a loan from the bank,

and the bank said no, a friend of yours might say,

hey, it's not that big of a deal.

You didn't get the loan.

You know, sometimes, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
