Meaning of LET ME SEE and THE WAY I SEE IT - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English we have this funny little phrase

that we say whenever we are thinking about something

and that phrase is "let me see."

Imagine that my daughter has asked me

to help her do her math homework.

She could say to me, "Dad what's the answer

"to the equation four plus four?"

I could say, "Let me see," and then I could think for a bit

and then I could say, "I think the answer is eight."

The answer is eight by the way.

So you will also hear this phrase when you call

to make an appointment and the person at the other end

needs to check the calendar.

So let's imagine that I have called the dentist's office

and the person at the other end could say,

"What day would you like your appointment?"

And I could say, "Wednesday would be great."

They would probably answer by saying,

"Let me see if that date is available.

"Hmm let me see.

"Yes, it looks like you can come in next Wednesday."

So, let me see is a just a little English phrase

that we say whenever we're thinking about something.

We have another phrase with the word "see" in it

and that is the phrase "the way I see it."

This phrase is used a little differently.

We would use this phrase if we were having an argument

or a discussion with someone and we would say this before

we express our opinion.

So let's say, for instance,

I'm having a discussion with someone

about what the best sport is in the world.

I could start by saying, "The way I see it,

"I think the best sport in the world is football

"because so many countries in the world play it.

"It's a better sport than hockey

"because it can be played almost anywhere in the world,

"at least that's the way I see it."

So when you say, "That's the way I see it,"

it's just a way to express an opinion

or to introduce an opinion

when you're having an argument or a discussion.
