Meaning of A CLOSE CALL - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English when we say something was "a close call" it means that something bad almost

happened but you avoided it at the last minute.

So a few years ago I was driving my car in the winter and I was coming up to a stoplight.

I needed to stop my car, and when I hit the brakes the car started to slide instead of

stop because I was on ice.

There was ice on the road.

So I slid for quite a while and there was a car in front of me that was stopped and

slowly my car slowed down until eventually just at the last second it stopped.

So that was a close call.

I almost got into an accident.

I almost hit the person in front of me.
