Meaning of A LONG SHOT and A SURE THING - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

- So in English, when you say something is a long shot,

it means that there's a very slim chance

of it happening.

It means that there's a very small chance

that it will happen.

When you buy a lottery ticket

and you hope that you will win the lottery,

it is definitely a long shot to win the lottery.

It has a very small chance of actually happening.

So when something is a long shot,

it means that there is a small chance that it will happen.

I was going to make this video outside today,

but I thought that it was a long shot

whether the wind would calm down or not.

It is extremely windy outside today,

and I think that it would have been a long shot

thinking that I could find a place outside

where I could make a video

where it wouldn't be extremely loud.

So I thought I would just do it inside today.

I know that's rare, but I thought

if I did it inside, I would get it done.

If I went outside, it would be a long shot

whether I would find a quiet place to do it.

So I thought I would do it inside,

because that would be a sure thing.

So a sure thing is the opposite of a long shot.

When something is a long shot,

there's a slim chance of it happening.

When something is a sure thing,

then it most likely will happen.

So I knew that if I stayed inside,

getting my video done would be a sure thing.
