Meaning of SPRING BREAK and READING BREAK and MARCH BREAK - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

- So as many of you know,

I am a high school teacher,

and right now, as of right now it is spring break,

spring break is a break that we take from teaching,

it's a break that students get in the spring every year,

and it lasts about one week,

and spring break started today,

so the way you talk about spring break,

is you say that you are on spring break,

you don't say that you're taking a spring break,

you simply say that you are on spring break,

typically, people travel during spring break,

usually there are a lot of travelers during spring break,

but this year,

there aren't as many people traveling as you would think,

many school trips during the spring break this year

have been canceled, due to the COVID-19 virus,

many people are simply staying home,

Jen and I don't usually go anywhere during spring break,

we usually have lots of work to do here on the farm,

as things get nicer, so I will be spending my spring break

here on the farm,

doing as much work as I need to do,

there's a few other words though for spring break,

we also call it March Break in my part of Canada,

because typically spring break is in the month of March,

so right now I could also say it's March Break,

I could say I'm on March Break,

we also call it reading break sometimes,

that's not as common in this part of Canada,

but at some schools, they will have a week off,

and students will say that they are on reading break,

I guess the idea being that during their reading break,

they'll be reading lots of books,

although I think they do a lot more partying,

than they do reading when they're on reading break

at most universities,

a lot of air travel has been canceled,
