Meaning of ON THE OTHER HAND - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English what we use the phrase on the other hand,

we use it to introduce another idea about whatever subject

we are talking about.

So, let's choose something to talk about, or someone.

Let's talk about me.

Here is a good example, my mind is sharp,

my brain still works really, really good,

but on the other hand,

my body is starting to show its age.

You can see my gray hair, both on my head and in my beard,

so I could describe my mind as being sharp,

but on the other hand, my body is starting to show its age.

So I used the phrase on the other hand to kinda describe

two aspects of myself that are in contrast to each other,

that are a little bit different.

So when you use the phrase on the other hand it's kind of

a way to connect two ideas about one thing together.

So, now you know the phrase, on the other hand.

We also have another phrase to go along with it, sometimes.

You can say on one hand, and then later,

you can use the phrase on the other hand.

So you could say something like on one hand, having a lot

of people at your wedding makes everyone happy,

but on the other hand, it will cost you a lot of money.

Let me repeat that one.

On one hand, having a lot of people come to your wedding

makes a lot of people happy, because they are happy

to be invited, but on the other hand,

it's going to you a lot more money, because you'll

have to feed all of them.
