Meaning of I'M A TRAIN WRECK - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So I had a really long day today and I'm a train wreck.

In English if you say, "I'm a train wreck.", you're not actually a train and you didn't

actually wreck, but we use this term "train wreck" to describe when we are just totally

tired, our hair is messy, we've had a really, really long day and we can hardly think straight.

You would just say, "I'm a train wreck."

You could also use "train wreck" to describe other things.

Maybe you've recently seen a movie and it wasn't very good.

The writing was really bad, the acting was really bad.

You could say, "That movie was a total train wreck!"

And what you mean is that the movie just wasn't good.

There was really nothing good about that movie from start to end.

So you could call that movie a train wreck meaning that the movie just wasn't good.

It was kind of a mess.

So we have another phrase that we use to describe my situation.

You could just say, "I'm a mess today!"

When you say, "I'm a mess.", it means that, again, you're having trouble thinking, you're

really tired.

It's been a super long day.

By the way, I taught three classes today and then I went and sold flowers at the market

'till about half an hour ago.

It's 7:30pm here.

It's almost dark, well it's starting to get dark, but I'm a bit of a mess because I'm

tired, I'm hungry, and I worked too much today.

I kind of like work so... in the end it's nice to be home and it's nice to have had

a nice long day's work.
