Meaning of DON'T BE SUCH A CRYBABY - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So be careful with this phrase.

If you say to someone in English, "Don't be such a crybaby!", basically you are insulting

them a little bit.

A crybaby is somebody who complains a lot.

Somebody who complains about things that aren't worth complaining about.

So if you call someone a crybaby or if you say to someone, "Don't be such a crybaby!",

basically you're insulting them, but you can use this phrase with a good friend.

Maybe you have a friend who you trust and like and you guys joke around a lot.

If your friend was complaining a lot about something you could say, "Hey!

Don't be such a crybaby!

It's not that big of a deal!"

And I think your friend would find it funny, but again, if you call someone a crybaby it

is an insult so use this phrase with care!

We have another phrase in English, very similar, "Don't be such a whiner!"

This is when someone is also complaining a lot about something or whining.

So complaining and whining are almost the same thing in English.

So you might have a friend who is whining and complaining about work and you might say

to them, "Hey!

Don't be such a whiner!"

But again, this is a little bit insulting so be careful when you use these two phrases

because you certainly wouldn't want to say this to your boss or to someone who you just

met.

So I know you guys aren't whiners.

I know you're all hard workers so I'm not going to say this phrase to you, but maybe

someday you might need to say to someone, "Don't be such a whiner!"
