Meaning of IT'LL COME TO ME and IT ESCAPES ME - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English, when you say, it'll come to me,

it means that you will remember something later.

Sometimes I forget things, believe it or not.

Just today, on the way home, there was a song on the radio,

and I couldn't think of the name of the singer in the band,

so I said to my son, "It'll come to me."

In English when you say, it'll come to me,

it means that you know, you know,

but that you can't think of it in the moment,

and you know that later in the day

you will remember what you were trying to remember.

So, we were listening to a song by the band "Van Halen,"

and I knew the original singer was David Lee Roth,

but I couldn't remember the name of the singer

that replaced him later in the history of the band,

and so I said to my son, "It'll come to me."

And believe it or not, it did come to me,

a little while later I remembered

that the singer was Sammy Hagar.

So, when you say, it'll come to me,

it means that you know you will remember.

We also have a phrase in English, it escapes me.

And we use the phrase it escapes me, when we, again,

know something but just can't quite remember it.

Oftentimes when I run into former students,

it will escape me, there name will escape me.

I'll say to them, "I can't quire remember your name,

"it escapes me right now.

"I'm sorry about that but what was your name again?"

I don't like it when that happens,

but I have taught for over 20 years,

I have taught a lot of students,

so sometimes when I run into former students at the mall,

their name will escape me,

and it will take me a little while to remember it,

or I will just ask them what their name is.
